During a rainstorm, after dark, and on-the-road, i replaced my windshield wipers with rain*x weatherbeater wiper blades to improve visibility. The blades were purchased at a target (upc 79118 00419) and installed in the rain in their parking lot. Within 20 miles of highway driving later, one blade (driver's side) became detached from the wiper arm. This caused sudden loss of visibility in the dark and in the heavy rain.i pulled over the shoulder, and reinstalled the wiper blade.needless to say, i double checked that it was installed tightly, and according to directions.a few miles later, it detached again.this time, i swapped the two blades, hoping that another failure, if it occurred, would be on the passenger side.a few miles later, for a third time, the driver's side wiper blade detached from the wiper arm.at this point i reinstalled the old and badly functioning blades.i subsequently inspected the wiper arms and found no defects or deformities that might have caused the failures.the wiper arms were the "j-hook" type on a 2001 saturn l series vehicle.

While driving down the road, i attempted to use my windshield wipers and washer fluid to clean dead bugs off the windshield.the washer fluid sprayed all over my windshield, but the wiper blade fell apart in mid stroke.this caused severely limited visibility and a distraction due to piece of the wiper blade being dragged back and forth across my windshield, which nearly caused me to run off the road.i was able to pull over and examine the wiper blade to determine that it had simply come apart, nothing had broken and no parts were damaged or stressed.this was completely due to a poor design.i was able to snap everything back together and continue down the road.

The contact owns a set of after market rain-x latitude windshield wiper blades (n/a), part number 800001461. The contact stated that the blades were defective. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph when the windshield wiper blade fractured from the wiper arm which caused difficulty in the visibility. The contact replaced both the passenger and driver side windshield wiper blades on two separate occasions.

While driving on the highway, the rain-x winter blade, on the drivers side, flew off the vehicle.only the blade came off, the piece that attaches to the j hook was still on the arm.

Using wipers in the rain while parked and wiper on drivers side flew off in 3 pieces. Wiper is a 28" rainex latitude. This is the second of these wipers to fail. The first one failed july 30 2011 at about 50 mph. They were less than 6 months old purchased at pep boys. The counterman at advance auto parts said he has seen other failures of this brand but only in the 28" inch size. The wipers come with a large plastic mounting pad already on the wiper and a plastic clip that you use to attach the mounting pad to the arm. Nothing breaks , but the mounting pad comes off the wiper and the clip falls out at the same time. The 3 pieces snap back together and feel strong enough in your hand but will fail quickly if you use them. Many gas stations and truck stops do not carry this size, i had to drive 30 miles to find the closest place to buy the replacement blades.

It was snowing and there was about two inches of heavy, wet snow on the windshield of my car when i turned on the windshield wiper to remove the snow before driving. Within the first 100 yards of my trip, the driver's side windshield wiper came apart. The portion of the wiper blade assembly that attaches to the j-hook remained attached to the j-hook, but the wiper blade came completely off and was laying on the hood of my car. Fortunately i was able to pull over safely and retrieve detached wiper blade. Being close to an auto parts store, i immediately purchased and installed a replacement windshield wiper blade. I saved both parts of the defective wiper blade. Close examination of the defective windshield wiper blade assembly revealed that there is only one very tiny, flexible plastic retention pin to retain a 24-inch wiper blade.the one tiny plastic retention pin is clearly not adequate for retaining this windshield wiper blade under any type of stressful conditions. The defective wiper blade had been in service not more than six months. My experience with this rain-x wiper blade could have had an unpleasant outcome had i been traveling at high speed on an interstate highway in inclement weather when the wiper blade came apart.

On 9/28/19 i was driving in a light rain when my driver's side wiper blew off. I had to full over because the arm was scraping my windshield. I retrieved the 24 inck latitude rain x wiper blade and the plastic tip that holds the blade in place. The plastic part had rain x printed in it. It was hard to see but i was able to make to an auto store for a replacement. On 9/30 i contacted rain x at855 888 1900 and reported the serious design flaw. The rep told me that they knew about this defect but the blades were still being sold. I was also told that i could buy the newly designed blade at walmart. I believe thes lattiude blades should be recalled because of the design flaw and serious result from not being able to see in the rain.

Cpcs:rain-x brand latitude windshield wiper blade defect. On two separate occasions with two different sets of 21" and 22" rain-x latitude windshield wiper blades, the rubber part of the blade which wipes against the glass windshield begins to slide out from the wiper arm and eventually flings off the vehicle. The consumer stated the manufacturer provided a full refund. Updated 08/18/2017
