Norcold issued a recall at the end of last year for over heating and fires. I have had this repair done twice and the refrigerator failed to work for the 3rd time today. It is not easy to take this in for repairs and is very upsetting to not be able to use the motorhome and having to stop and cancel your trip and return home.norcold needs to have a proper fix for this recall or replace refrigerator.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

We purchased an rv with a norcold n8xfl refrigerator new in may 2018. We began to have issues with the refrig not cooling, spontaneously around october/november 2018. The frig was continuously in the repair shop until we thought we discovered the issue of a defective circuit main board. Once this was replaced, the unit was not used much over the next 4-6 months. Leaving for a trip in july 2019, the unit failed to cool, but began to cool spontaneously. Again, repair shop could not pin point exact issue. Multiple calls and trips to the repair shop, and dealing with the manufacture, they had replaced multiple parts in the frig. Including the main cooling unit the frig. Still failed. The manufacturer decided to replace the unit. The new frig. Is installed. Upon arriving at the repair shop to pick up our camper with the new refrigerator, i examined the frig. To find that it seemed to cool on electric and gas operation. Once i left the facility to take my camper to my home, i was pulling onto my st, i noticed smoke coming from the side of my camper from the frig. Vent. I immediately pulled over, removed the vent cover, and saw a flame on the top of the gas valve. I used a water bottle to extinguish the fire. I called the repair shop immediately, and was advised to shut unit off and to send them pics as well as contact the manufacturer. After many calls to the manufacturer, i was able to speak with the fire claims dept and ed minor who is a supervisor. Ed stated, without seeing the valve in person that it appeared to be an install issue that damaged the valve, and not an issue with their refrig. And that they would not be replacing anything. I did not feel confident with his conclusion as this man had not seen it in person, ran any test on the unit, or physically examined the valve. I spoke with gail at the fire claims dept. With norcold, and she advised me to have another licensed repair facility to examine the frig and check the cause of the fire.

My name is bill compton and i am a deputy with the kentucky fire marshal's office. I was dispatched to investigate the circumstances surrounding a fire in a 5th wheel camper. The 5th wheel camper was jayco designer series produced on 4-21-95 with a vin#indications are the fire started in the refrigerator of the unit. The refrigerator was produced by norcold, model#6162 and serial#167291brbkd5. I am aware that there have been several recalls involving norcold units and felt it necessary to report the incident even though indications were that this serial number was not involved in previous recalls. My concern is that fact that there may have been other fires involving this model of product but just not enough to justify a recall presently.

Cpsc#i1160395a. Tahoe fifth wheel rv. Consumer stated may 12th they experienced the smell of ammonia and no cooling by the unit.on may 15th at 1 a.m., their dogs woke them to find the whole trailer on fire. Consumer stated they lost everything and barely made it out. *lnan electrical forensics team, found the unit to be the cause of the fire.

Retail store refused to honor the refrigerator cooling unit fire recall 02e019000, indicating that the model # wasn't part of the recall, although the serial #onthe recall part was within the recall range.a recall letter was sent to the consumer.

Consumer is showing discontent with the wait to get the repair done for their rvrefrigerator.

Our rv norcold refrigerator's alarm sounded.the fault says no co--no cooling unit.norcold sent the high temperature sensor part as our refrigerator/cooling unit is under recall; it was installed by rv service center on 8/8/13. This week end out camping the alarm sounded again; it was reset by rv owner, but alarm sounded again.the owner can only reset it once after that it goes to rv service center for resetting.my claim number for norcold is 580811 for the part. We thought with the new part installed the alarm wouldn't go off again.thanks.

Cpsc: norcold inc: the fire department stated there was a malfunction with the refrigerator installation that caused a fire. *ssupon investigation, it appeared the fire started at the top of the unit in the rear left corner.

Notified by norcold, inc. Of a fire hazard caused by my refrigerator . This is the second such recall , because the first one was an attempt to do a cheap quick fix and it didn't work . Now , they are doing it over to correct their first screw up. They refused to come to me to fix the problem .causing me to spend my money and time to have the problem repaired , maybe!! the letter states " the installation of the high temperature sensor will be at no cost to you ". They lied ! i do have to pay to have it repaired . I realize the nhtsa has no power to resolve these problems , so i don't understand why i have to send a complaint to you anyway . Norcold inc.said if i had a complaint i had to notify you, they had no further responsibility . Than to notify me and furnish the parts and in-shop labor . Any food loss and additional costs are at my expense . If a law suit results from their mistakes and errors the on -site cost will seem trivial . Thanks for your time .

Norcold corp. Issued safety recall # 10e-049 on/about october 21, 2010 for refrigerator units in recreational vehicles for a potential "fire" in the cooling unit(s). A certified rv dealer confirmed fire damage to unit owned and operated by complainant . Norcold corp. Has refused to honor safety recall(s) and repair said damaged units. The fire was contained to the refrigerator unit only however its a total lost. There are millions of similar defective refrigerator units being used on the national's highways by unsuspecting rv owners posing a serious safety and hazardous potential for a catastrophic event that will endanger the traveling public.
