Letter regarding his norcold refrigerator model# 1201lrim that caught fire at robers motor resort in st. Petersburg, fl in february 2010 in his motorhome; he feels that norcold is responsible and seeking reimbursement of full expenses.the consumer is seeking reimbursement the consumer also submitted a recall letter from norcold in regards to the refrigerator possibly catching on fire.
The contact owns a norcold refrigerator, model number 200lrim. The contact stated that the refrigerator was serviced under nhtsa campaign id number: 09e027000 (equipment). The contact stated that the recall repairs caused the refrigerator to shut down. The manufacturer was not able to advise why the refrigerator was defective and they would not replace the refrigerator. The refrigerator was not further repaired.
2007 winnebago motorhome. Consumer writes in regards to norcold 1201 lrim wpm refrigerator concerning recalldue to fatigue failure in the portion of the cooling unit that houses the refrigerant *tgwthe consumer stated he experienced problems with the refrigerator ever since the motorhome was purchased. There were many attempts to fix the problem, but with no success.the unit was recalled, where it was retrofitted with a thermal switch kit that was supposed to protect the cooling unit from leaking refrigerant. Unfortunately, the repair kit was ineffective, and the unit leaked refrigerant, which caused the consumer to shut the refrigerator down for fear of a fire.
The contact owns a 2004 winnebago adventurer equipped with a norcold refrigerator, model number: 1201lrim and serial number: 15374429. The contact stated that the refrigerator began leaking and an ammonia odor was detected in the recreational vehicle. The norcold manufacturer was notified at 800 543-1219 and informed the contact that the refrigerator was not included in any existing recalls. The contact stated that the refrigerator screen displayed a warning for a leak and the ammonia odor. The recreational vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing of the refrigerator failure. The refrigerator was not repaired.
Cpsc:i1460035a. Norcold refrigerator. Consumer stated the door on the refrigerator fell off. *lnthe consumer stated the doors were not made strong enough and eventually cracked under normal use. The door fell off and landed on his 11 month old son. It fell on top of him and pinned his head and body on the ceramic title.

A dealer was contacted who advised that the refrigerator was not under recall and offered no further assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000.updated 07/10/12*ljthe consumer stated the refrigerator was hot, since the first day of purchase. On september 16, 2006 the refrigerator completely stopped working. The dealership repaired it, but it never functioned properly. The refrigerator stopped working again for the second time. The consumer obtained the parts and was able to fix it, but the exterior was still too hot.about a week later, the consumer pulled the refrigerator out and discovered that both cooling fans were not working properly and part of the thermal insulation was missing. Norcold didn't want to do anything about the issue, until winnebago became involved. After winnebago became involved, norcold replaced the fans and sent additional insulation.update 07/11/12. The consumers lawyer wrote in on behalf of the consumer. Under the recall, the cooling unit was retrofitted with a thermal switch kit that was supposed to protect the cooling unit from leaking. Unfortunately, the repair was ineffective as the unit continued to leak refrigerant. Updated 08/09/12
This is 2nd recall for norcold refrigerator in our rv. Rv is in storage, building and used to live in.frozen food in freezer, and no where else to store it. It is over 200 miles to closest repair place, and insurance on rv is for storage only and not driving.will cost over 200 dollars for round trip to accomplish defective norcold product. Insurance for rv to make trip will be extra and over the 200 dollar amount. If turn off refrig, freezer will lose over $350 perishable items.we are retired, have some disability, and on limited income.norcold caused these problems and should pay to remedy them.norcold repair center stated they could make service call at a cost of $170, please authorize rich and sons campers sales, www.richsonsrv.com, phone 308-384-2040, to make service call.the contact at rv repair is: nick.we have newmar dutch star, vin # [xxx];cooling unit sn on rv 8328978r801201.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
