The mandatory motorcycle helmet law puts my life in danger every time i get on my bike. Specifically, the helmet creates wind drag that translates to several pounds of pressure pulling on my neck at speeds of 45mph and greater. This not only impedes my ability to turn my head and check for traffic over my shoulder, such as when changing lanes, but threatens my balance of the bike. One of many close calls occurred in palos verdes in oct. Of 2007 when i was in a wide highway turn at about 43mph and my helmet was not just pulling but lifting, nearly sliding behind my head, choking my neck.this a dot-approved shell without a shield, secured as tight as my throat would allow. It is also one of many helmets i have had since 1992. (this is a jafrum, not listed in your equipment type, but like i say, i have tried at least 10 and just keep replacing them and throwing them away.) on top of threatening my life for no reason, this is costly and just downright stupid.i have been riding motorcycles in the street for over 32 years. A helmet does not guarantee protection in excess of 15mph, and in fact has caused many accidents and deaths by snapping necks when the helmet hits pavement. The only reason accidents and deaths decline after a helmet law is b/c there are fewer riders. If you look at the stats, helmets actually increase accidents and deaths, relative to the number of riders.helmets endanger me and i should not be required to wear one. The gov.'t. Is forcing me to put my life in extreme jeopardy while taking away my personal freedoms and liberties. Please repeal the helmet law!
