The contact owns new aftermarket monroe/tenneco front wheel struts, part number: 72609/72608. The struts were purchased from advance auto (4240 miller rd, columbus, ga 31909) and placed in a 2009 nissan rogue by the contact's husband. The vehicle was taken to a dealer (headquarter nissan, 1725 whittlesey rd, columbus, ga 31904, 706-225-8100) for maintenance work and the dealer indicated that the struts had fractured due to stress. The struts were two inches longer than the manufacturer's struts. The dealer also stated that the tow alignment was off and the control arm failed due to the fractured struts. The struts were not original equipment. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that they were not original parts. The failure mileage was approximately 106,532.

The front struts on my car broke, and leaked fluid all over. The dealer said i was responsible however, and made me repair them even though i did not break them. Looking into this issue, i found out that this car has horrendous issues with their struts, which are defective. Even though the struts are defective, however they have not issued a recall, and the dealer has made me pay to fix them twice. The struts failed on two separate occasions. This could be a seriously dangerous problem, in regards to handling of the car, and car dealers across the country i have found out are telling people it is safe to drive the vehicle while replacement parts are available, which has been taking months.

Coil spring on passenger side strut broke, has driver's side break the year before, had to replace whole strut / spring assembly, could've caused accident if the pieces would have hit the tires instead of wrapping around rest of spring.

Hi, i bought the parts from rockauto.com on 04/02/2019 and they arrived few days later and were installed by a professional mechanic on the day of the delivery. The part number are as follow monroe 272898, and monroe 272897. The parts were installed on ride sharing suv which is driven almost close to 1000 miles a week. The first quick strut that failed and got broken while driving was on 05/20/2019and it was the front driver side and the second front passenger side quick strut failed and got broken while driving was on 05/25/2019. The driver side quick strut failure also caused damage to the driver side axle as well. So both the monroe quick struts were replaced by original used nissan struts on the vehicle as well the left axle was replaced by the aftermarket company axle. Rockauto.com will only replace the parts with another sets of monroe quick struts and they will not issue any refund. I could understand if one of the strut is defective but both of them is a whole another issue. By visually i compared both used nissan complete strut assembly with brand new monroe quick strut and monroe quick strut has been made poorly as the built quality is utterly disappointing and cant handle everyday use of the suv. Minor bumps cause noises and then finally they give out by getting broken from the mount itself. It's not safe to drive with these monroe quick strut installed on nissan rogue model (old body style). Please take action and remove them from all the stores as they will break down and fall apart and could cause major damage.

I purchased monroe quick struts on march 18, 2011.i had them installed by a mechanic at national tire and battery (ntb).in may of 2011 the front left strut failed, the strut tower rod went through the upper mount.monroe paid for ntb to replace the upper mount.in june of 2011 the front right strut had the same failure.monroe also paid for repairs via ntb.in december of this year i noticed the plastic spring base on the front left strut has fractured.this could cause the spring to fail and would be a major failure. I'm concerned that these struts have some defects.

Coil spring on passenger side strut broke, has driver's side break the year before, had to replace whole strut / spring assembly, could've caused accident if the pieces would have hit the tires instead of wrapping around rest of spring.

I purchased monroe econo-matic strut assemblies in feb 2013 from rock auto.i installed them in march on my2005 dodge grand caravan.the right one started making a loud clunking noise about one month later.i found out the warranty is only 30 days through rock auto.when i checked monroe's sight, i found they don't have a warranty at all.i sent a email to their customer support but they never responded.i searched online for complaints about monroe struts and was stunned to find so many.i think this needs to be investigated.i would be glad to send my broken strut to be tested.i don't believe monroe struts are safe and the public needs to know.

Change to complaint 10037055.the incident is the same.while on the freeway the van dove down and to the left.seconds later, smoke was pouring from the tire and then it blew out.after struggling to get off the road, initial examination showed that the bracket holding the tie rod end from the front stabilizer bar had broken loose from the strut tower.the tie rod end had then pushed between the strut and the tire with the metal bracket end rubbing against the tire sidewall.revisionthe strut bracket that failed was from monroe and was not an oem part.further investigation of strut, once removed from the vehicle, showed that a critical weld between the bracket and the strut tower had never been made.i have taken pictures if you are interested.
