Dangerous vehicle lighting: headlights and led tail lights of new cars and trucks are getting too bright. Some headlights blind on coming traffic. At night, and for example at a traffic light, led taillights ahead can have the same blinding effect. Higher pickup truck headlights need to point at the road, not into the eyes of oncoming traffic. Headlights should be regulated not by standard angle, but a standard distance from vehicle. "road lamps" should point at the road, not into the eyes of oncoming traffic.
Many current led lights on cars and some streetlights have their brightness regulated by pwm. This interacts with camera systems, such as those on self-driving vehicles, in a way that makes it difficult to impossible to know if the lights are lit and their brightness. This is a serious safety issue. Led brightness can be controlled in other ways, such as via linear regulators, either standalone or microprocessor controlled. Lights controlled in this way look to cameras as solid like with older lighting technology. Pwm controlled lighting on streets and cars should be banned, and linear regulation required. This needs to be done as soon as possible. While linear regulation is generally less efficient than pwm, it can be made to be similarly efficient with some effort. The added safety is not just camera vision related, but also impacts human vision. Pwm lights with low frequencies cause headaches and even seizures in some people, and faulty pwm lighting can cause these problems in the majority of people. Linear regulation solves these issues entirely.
