The contact owns a 1979 mercedes benz 450sl equipped with a johnson control 12 volt battery (na). Immediately after starting the vehicle, the battery exploded and acid spewed all over the trunk. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The battery was not replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The part number was unknown. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 140,000 and the approximate battery failure mileage was 1,000.

Dt: this is a 16 feet enclosed cargo trailer where thebrakes wired up, the wire on the frame was scotch locked which was a factory job. The scotch lock and the rubber kept the water. The consumer was concerned about snowy/icy conditions which could turninto a 20 lb block of ice and tear the wires apart. The consumer contacted the dealer, who urged the consumer to contact the manufacturer, however they were not willing to assist. The consumer noticed this on april 26, 2005.
