Until 1:30 p.m. Today (june 3, 2004), i thought my 2002 daewoo nubira was a god-sent because of its excellent gas economy (~30 mpg).the engine caught on fire this afternoon and now it's a piece of junk.i have been doing my oil change every 3000 miles and so far i've put about 39000 miles on it.as far as i know, this should not have happened but it did!!!i hope this is not one of those things daewoo is trying to hide.those of you who have the daewoo's, please have your car checked immediately by a trained professional for any kind of potential failure.i have no idea why the engine caught on fire.i was driving with the ac on and suddenly i noticed smoke in my rear view mirror.then smoke started coming out of the vents and then i saw flames out of the left side of the engine.i changed my oil about 2 weeks ago and i have been driving it everyday.can't be the coolant or the engine oil because it was driving fine for two weeks.owners of daewoo, beware!!! don't let this happen to you. Get your car checked-out asap for any potential problems.maybe the daewoo engine is only good for 40000 miles and since mine's close, it just died on me.i am only glad i was not hurt and no one else was on the highway. I managed to pull over during rush hour traffic in dallas and i just watched my car burn. If there are other complaints like this, i haven't seen it and if this is the first, i hope it will be the last because i don not want anyone else to go through what i did this afternoon.

My vehicles check engine light has been on for well over a year now.i believe this problem is dut to a manufacturer's defect and i should not have to come out of my pocket to pay for a company's mishap.i would like the problem to be corrected as soon as possible.

I went to the midas auto shop located on 8888 jamacha road to get my brake system bled. When i got there, the manager, nancy, said that i needed to get a thorough brake inspection before getting anything done. I consented, and signed a consent form. Note: prior to going to the auto shop, my car was in top running condition, except for the brake problem. As soon as the brake inspection was completed, nancy told me the other "problems" that my car had to get fixed in addition to the brake situation. In addition to that she said that the whole brake bleeding procedure and the replacement of a master cylinder would cost way more than i expected it to, so i declined to get my car serviced by them (midas). I paid the $19.99 inspection fee and left the auto shop.about a mile away my car stopped running. I tried to restart it, but it wouldn't do so. I then opened the hood to check what could be wrong. I noticed a hose hanging loose behind the power steering column. It had a clean cut about a half an inch long at the end. I also saw a connector without a hose connected to it. I knew then that something was suspicious about the "inspection" done at midas. The hose that was cut was in good condition. It was in no way dry or brittle, and could not have fallen off on its own. It was a vaccum hose connection that aided in the intake of air to the carbureator. When it was dislocated from its joint connector, no air went through to the carbureator, thus making my car stall for lack of a good air/fuel mix. I am thoroughly disgusted with this incident and i am actively seekinglegal consultation about this matter.

There was no warning. I was luckily in a parking lot and when i started my car the engine was racing. I turned it off and restarted and the same thing happened, i tried to engage it in gear (hoping it would resolve the problem) and i could not stop the car. I used the emergency brake to stop the car and had it towed to the dealership. I was told the vacuum hose had a leak and was replaced, however my bill said it was "loose and was tightned". Approximately 2 weeks prior to the incident i had my brakes repaired and i feel that the technition probably did not attach this correctly and i am lucky i was not driving the car!
