Curt manufacturing, inc. Trailer hitch failure while pulling a trailer.main support bar snapped!temporary lost control of vehicle on busy freeway.a hitch expert said that the design was faulty.curt mfg. Has apparently redesigned and replaced the model but has not done a recall.see:http://curt-mfg.com.

I purchased a combination ball mount from napa auto parts in troy, mi, to pull a boat/trailer.the ball mount was made by valley industries, inc.the set included a hitch pin and a cotter pin. I installed it on my car that day and picked up our boat/trailer.we (i, my husband, and our 4 children) left that night to take the boat to a lake in northern michigan.about 3 hours into the trip, the ball mount/boat/trailer separated from the car.the police were called. When we looked at the trailer, we found that the ball mount had separated from the car with the trailer/boat still attached. The cotter pin and hitch pin were gone.two men stopped to help us, and one of them had a used hitch pin and cotter pin in his truck thathe gave to us touse.the next day, my 8-year-old son was inspecting the car, ball mount, trailer, and his new boat (as only an 8 year old can).he said "mom, i found something in the driveway at home that looks like the thing the man gave us.i thought you might need it, so i put it in the back of the car."when i looked, i found half of the cotter pin that had come with the ball mount (the wavy side.) i asked him where on our driveway he had found it because the car was parked at the top of the driveway when i installed the ball mount. After picking up the boat, i did not drive up the driveway (it's rather steep), opting instead to just park on the street until we were ready to go.he found the broken cotter pin at the top of the driveway.so, the cotter pin had failed before i ever left the house to pick up the boat. We had driven approximately 3 hours on an interstate highway.we drove over the zilwaukee bridge (if you're not familiar with michigan, it's a big bridge) -- all without the benefit of a safety pin securing the hitch pin.shortly before the hitch pin fell out, we had stopped at a gas station and put $100.00 worth of gas into the boat's tank. When i think about what could have happened, i get very angry.

Mopar trailer hitch on my 300 will not allow you to slide the hitch ball into the receiver. It has a welded bead inside the square tubing.have contacted the selling dealer ,and getting no where. Will not return phone calls.also the hitch is installed so low, that you hit the ground when you pull into a driveway or cross a intersection.

Trailer hitch was installed by welding it to the inside of the 5mph bumper and bolting to the floor board bypassing frame mount locations on vehicle frame which failed. This is a very dangerous installation which all five stores claim they have been using for fifty years putting the public at great risk.
