The design of the 2004 toyota sienna doesn't permit adequate ground clearance when a trailer hitch is installed.this is a safety hazard as connecting any trailer to the hitch will result in lost of proper suspension clearance and potential lost of steering control.toyota says this is not a problem and they have no solution to increase ground clearance when there is a load on the trailer hitch.

Traveling pulling a 24' boat on feeder about to get on freeway. A hidden hitch m#80239 broke. My boat crashed into my truck when i braked. Traffic was bad and there were at least 3 drivers that almost hit me. The boat was full of gas, 80 gallons. If the hitch had broke on the freeway at higher speed people could have been killed. I showed the failed hitch to a friend who is a specialty welder. He said that the weld was not properly fused with the metal on the 2"x2" bar. The company who made the hitch tried to get me to send them the failed hitch. I refused since it was the only evidence i had. I am trying to get them to pay for my damages.

The hitch was on a dodge ram 2003 4x4 truck.the trailer was a ragin 29' toy hauler camper weighing 7000lbs.the truck was involved in a collision that resulted in the hitch being separated from the truck.the truck sustaining minimal damage.the engine compartment was not involved and the airbags did not deploy.upon the initial impact the hitch was separated at the welds from the vehicle.the bolts and the parts of the hitch that were above the welds were still connected to the frame. The chains, sway bars, and safety brake switch were ineffective as the hitch was separated upon impact. The trailer then hit the back of the truck.

I purchased and mounted a rola swinging enclosed cargo carrier for a 2 inch hitchfor use on my 1999 chevy express van according to the manufacturers instructions. The third time used on my vehicle i was entering a roadway from a parking lot when the nut on the swing-away arm snagged on the pavement and bent the hitch frame of the cargo carrier. I was going slowly and there was nothing particularly remarkable about the transition from the parking lot to the roadway. Also, the cargo in the carrier was well within the advertised 250 lb load capacity. Evidently the design allows insufficient ground clearance. In retrospect, the installation instructions provided did not mention this hazard or provide anyrecommendation for minimum ground clearance.damage was fortunately limited to the cargo carrier itself and trailer hitch receiver lock but was severe enough that these are no longer serviceable. No apparent damage to the hitch/receiver or vehicle frame.note, there is a non-swinging version of the same (hitch-mounted) cargo carrier. On the swing-away version, it appears that the nut and bolt used to pivot the swinging part of the hitch frame reduces ground clearance by an additional 1 1/2 inches over that of the non-swinging model.i have contacted the vendor of this equipment (etrailer.com) regarding this issue and they have apparently chosen to ignore my correspondence.
