Harley davidson optional stand part number 91573-09a.this stand is permanently attached to the motorcycle frame and is used to lift and hold the motorcycle in a vertical position (rather than leaning to one side) for cleaning or service.the stand has two parallel legs that swing down and lift the motorcycle with an attached arm that the operator steps on to apply the lifting force.in normal use, the two legs can be twisted out of parallel during the lifting operation.this causes the left side leg to hang downwhen the stand is retracted, which would reduce ground clearance in a left hand turn.this reduced ground clearance could possibly cause a crash in a left turn situation.this out of parallel situation also causes the motorcycle to pitch to the right when the motorcycle is rolled off of the stand, which can cause the bike to fall over to the right side, causing injury or property damage.i had this failure occur last year (the bike is 2009) and removed the stand and returned it to the selling dealer, after several weeks of evaluation, it was determined that the stand was faulty and i was given a new stand at no charge.now the new stand has failed in an identical manner, so i have removed it from the motorcycle as a safety concern. I contacted harley davidson customer service to voice my concerns and was merely told to return the stand to the dealer for replacement.

Yesterday as i was cruising along on my 2000 harley davidson softail deuce, i heard a bad sound. Pulled over and discovered 4 of the 5 chrome bolts broke on the rear sprocket that the drive belt connects to.this could have been really bad! i was not on the expressway.the bolts i have were the chrome hardware kit for rear beltsprocket - hex head #94773-00a. I have the stock sprocket on thechromed deuce 17" wheel.i called hd and they have created an incident and asked for detailfrom the dealer on other bikes with the same issue. The dealer saidthey have had several bikes in recently with the same issue.i was told by harley davidson today that there was nothing they can do.i have come across another owner of an 2004 harley davidson fatboy in california that this happened to this last week as well.i can forward you this information.all 5 of his bolts broke (non-chromed) and a bolt hit a biker in the leg behind him.i do not feel that harley is taking this seriously as i am finding more and more incidents of this happening.i am now bearing the cost of a new wheel and labor to correct this problem.
