I purchased and installed a harley davidson driver backrest.i followed all directions on the installation.the problem is the back rest does not firmly and securely stay in the base.on 5-28-2004, for the second time, while i was driving the motorcycle, i hit a bump and the back rest suddenly came out of its base, causing me to momentarily loose my balance and almost control of the motorcycle. I have removed the back rest from the motorcycle.the problem as i see it, comes from the tongue and groove locking clasp on the base of the backrest.it is partially made of plastic or a very thin piece of metal and will not secure properly. *la
2011 harley-davidson fltru road glide ultra with abs brakes, the rear brake failed to function. I was able to avoid an accident due to many decades of riding experience. The correction was to replace the abs brake module with a new version. There have been no recalls for my vin. Number.
Exactly one week before the crash the rear brake failed to stop on the motorcycle.i have been riding for over 20 years with many different motorcycles and brands and this was the first time i had ever experienced a brake failure.i thought for a minute to take the bike straight to the dealer and have them look at it but did not, chose to go home to my daughter instead.the next week on my way home on the freeway traffic stopped i tried to stop but again the rear brake did not engage.i knew i was about to crash into the car in front of me.as i was trying to stop the bike i was also attempting to maneuver between the cars but to no avail. I finally threw he bike sideways and slid into the car in front of me.i broke my left leg to the point that the hospital told me they were cutting it off.i woke the next day to find that a surgeon came in and was able to screw the bones back together.when i explained to the mechanic that put my bike back together he stated that the rear disk was greatly discolored and looked like the bike had gone down a steep hill with the rear brake applied the entire way.
Harley-davidson uses the same part on many of their motorcycles which has proven to be defective.this part is the rear brake light switch which is supposed to activate the rear brake light when the rider applies pressure to the rear brake pedal.this part has had to be replaced on hundreds of their products (in some cases more than once as the replacement part has also failed) dating bake several years yet they continue to use it without upgrading it.this is a critical safety issue and we, the owners who have had to pay to replace it, would like an investigation by you as tothe possibility of a recall on this issue which we can only hope will lead to a redesign of this part so as to alleviate its ongoing failure.i have no record of actual accidents which have occurred as a result of this parts failure however i do know that we motorcyclists face enough hazards on the road and the failure of our brake light should not be one of them especially when the track record of the part which is supposed to make it happen is faulty.
