I purchased a garmin nuvi 255w, serial 1ww412605 several years ago, and have since upgraded the software (operating system and maps) twice. Before upgrading, the device worked very well, giving me detailed directions. After upgrading, the device was totally inaccurate, and dangerous. Not only could you not enter the names of most towns and cities, but its maps lacked details like exits off highways. It showed my location as often being several hundred feet to one side or the other of the road i was driving on, which is confusing if you are in a city as it would be showing you on a road different than the road you were actually driving on.the problem of not showing exit ramps is dangerous, for the following reason. On a major divided highway, the device now only shows the road as a single lane road (it originally showed it as two roads), with no exits. If you are driving south, and need to exit onto a road to the east, the device shows that you have to make a left turn. So, you get into the left lane. However, as you approach the exit, you then see that you must exit to the right, because the exit ramp circles around, goes under the road you are driving on, and then heads east. As a result, you either miss the exit, or attempt to cross multiple lanes of traffic in a short distance. Previous performance of the device trained you to believe it, and after upgrading, the device leads you into a dangerous situation.
