2003 ford windstar subframe defect.

I received safety recall n62/nhtsa 13v-528 in december 2013 and was preparing to make an appointment to have the recalled parts checked.as i was pulling into a parking space on january 16, 2014, i lost all steering.i assumed this was related to the recall n-62 and had the vehicle towed to the dodge dealership.the service technician informed me after a thorough evaluation that the problem was related to an aftermarket pitman arm which i had installed in 2005 as part of a 4.5" lift kit manufactured by fabtech motorsports.after doing a search on the nhtsa website, i found that this part was recalled in 2010, but i was never notified.according to the dodge dealer, the defective pitman had damaged the steering box and the steering linkage.the examination of recall n62 and related recall h46 revealed no action necessary except for the damage caused by the defective pitman arm.i notified fabtech of the problem and provided them with detailed reports from the dodge dealer (including a breakdown of the parts and labor costs associated with the repair), photographs of the damaged parts, and a request that they reimburse me for the repair costs.of the $2246.93 that i had to pay, they were only willing to reimburse me $261.16 (the cost of the new pitman arm, estimated labor to install it and shipping.even though they acknowledged the pitman arm irreparably damaged the splines on the shaft of the steering box, they refused to reimburse for that; or for the steering linkage damage which they disputed was related to the pitman arm.they took the stance that the recall was from 2010 and the installer who sold me the fabtech lift kit with the defective pitman arm should have notified me of the recall.it is fortunate i was parking and not driving as someone could have been killed by my vehicle careening down the road out of control.i feel they should be responsible for the costs associated with the damage their part caused and thankful no one died.
