I bought a used extang tonneau cover off of craigslist and installed it on my 2014 toyota tundra. I was cruising down the highway at 60mph and kept hearing a flapping noise behind me but did not see anything in my rear view mirror.as i crossed one of the bridges, i heard something like a bird hitting the windshield and in my rear view mirror, i saw my tonneau cover come off the bed of my truck and onto the roadway where it eventually was run over by a motorcycle causing the driver to loose control and went into the concrete barrier dividing the highway.i pulled over and called the police since the driver of the bike appeared to be injured. I then called my insurance company to inform them of what happened and filled out a police report before leaving.i was searching the internet who i could contact on this and found the nhtsa website.upon further review on their site, i found that extang had submitted a safety recall on this exact same issue and called to tell them what happened.so far, its been 2 weeks and have not received a call back.what do i do next?
I have a extang encore tonneau cover on my 2010 ford ranger that flew backwards while driving down the road damaging the rear fiberglass panel. The front latch assembly has a poor design in which water drains down inside of the latch assembly and freezes and ice builds up. You think the panel is secured when it is not. Extang needs to redesign the latch assembly to prevent water from getting inside the latch assembly. When i contacted extang they said they haven't had anyone else complain about this. They sent me a new plastic washer and o-ring for the latch but water still drains into the assembly.
