I have a dometic rv refrigerator model rm3862 that was involved in a safety recall (#06e-076).according to the recall there is a possibility of the unit catching on fire ifthe cooling system riser tube ruptures.i did not receive any information about this defect.when i contacted dometic on 20th july 2010 i was informed that dometic would only install the safety kit, and would not reimburse me for the cost of the repair to the cooling system. If this safety issue could cause the unit to catch fire, then it would surely be over heating the riser tube, which would cause the unit to corrode prematurely and rupture.my unit has failed due to this defect and the unit should be repaired or replaced by dometic.i have been informed that to repair the refrigerator the cooling unit has to be replaced (about $900.00). New units cost about $1200.00.

We have a fifth wheel rv that has a dometic 2 door refrigerator that without warning released ammonia fumes into our rv.after the incident i found out that this unit was on a recall list. I spoke with the company and was informed that the recall is not to replace thedefected part/s.they stated that the recalll was a kit that would prevent the potential problem of fire.why is dometic not required to fix the defective parts?the recall call fix ignors the defect and puts in place a kit that will limit the risk for fire.the ammonia gas that escaped could have had a fatal effect had it leaked while we were sleeping.i request that the recall should include replacement of the defective parts.as it stands, i will have to pay for the replacement parts including labor before the dometic recall kit can be appied--which only prevents a fire and does not fix the problem.

The dometic refridgerator in our travel trailer has been recalled for repair for a safety problem.i called to make an appointment. But they told me that there are no authorized dealers in my area that will do the repair for the amount that they will pay them. The closest is 40 miles away in seattle. That is a hardship for me at this time and i am afraid that something will happen. Is there any way that you can help me find a repair shop that can make the safety repair?thanks for you help..

Recall on dometic refrigerator model rm3862 in my newmar 5th wheel has started to leak a yellow coolant from the back of the refrigerator to the outsideof the trailer through the vent housing , it also developed an ammonia smell inside the trailer. The trailer was barely used and looks like new even the carpet , furniturewould show wear if used. This unit was listed in the recall and the original owner who sold it to me last july 2012 stated that the recall had been performed . After reading about the problems on this unit i realized that even though the recall had been done( a shield was just put around the burner area. The problem of the same part still cracking possibly due to the electric element being to strongbut regardless the unit still failed just like the recall stated it would, i contacted dometic and the referred me toalocal rv dometic dealer .i called the dealer he stated there was nothing that dometic would do to help i was on my own.it is a shame this agency which is supposed to protect us from these types of dangerous products would allow a company as large as dometic to not really fix the problem. It just possibly prolonged the problem to a later date when the units were a little older and it could be blamed on age .who has to die from a fire on one of these units before your agency revisits this problem . It is obvious from the amount of these cooling units that have better metal put in them when they are refurbished. All the refurbisher's will tell you is that there was a problem with the weld and the metal in the area they always crack in.dometic should be made to fix the problem and replace the boiler metal and welds as should have been done in the beginning. Please look into this before someone gets hurt. I would like a response as to what will happen ihave the serial number which shows it was one effected units.

Dometic refrigerator recall #06e-076/ nhtsa # 06e76000. My complaint or concern is about the repair/correction of this safety/fire item.the dometic people say that there is a chance of a fatigue crack in the boiler tube of the refrigerator causing a fire. They tell you how to identify the area and the possible release of a flammable substance, and they tell you how this could result in a vehicle fire (which would destroy my motor home).they send an information sheet on how to shut off the gas at the refrigerator and how important it is to do this.then the correction to the problem is not to repair the parts but to hide them. The repair is to add several pieces of sheet metal around the burner area, this sheet metal wraps around the burner and the shut off valve making it impossible to inspect or clean the burner or to get to the shutoff valve. So now i am left with a refrigerator that is still a hazard but that i am unable to inspect for the problem and unable to shut off if i suspect a problem. This does not seem to me to be a safe correction to a fire safety problem. This is more like a cheap way to attempt to pacify people into thinking they are correcting the fire/safety problem.i think this recall and the correction for it needs to be reevaluated by the nhtsa before a fire destroys someone's motor home and possibly takes their life.
