They wouldn't repair it and told me to just buy a new refrigerator. I followed all steps suggested on the dometic web site to turn off the refrigerator the minute i realized there was a recall and the refrigerator was a hazard. Even though it was turned off, while waiting the two weeks for the repair appointment ammonia leaked out of the refrigerator. 2003coachmen rvmodel 2652serial # 21703167dometic refrigerator that is on recall.the recall # is 06e-076, recall 08e-032.earlier this year i believe it was april i went into my camper and i smelled a strong scent of ammonia.when i called about service and the dealer told me that the line in back of fridge probably busted which filled the rv with ammonia.they told me to turn my unit off until the refridgerator could be fixed or replaced and the cost would be approximately $1200.recently i found out from a friend that my refrigerator was on the recall list.when i went to the web site and looked up the recall, the refrigerator had every symptom listed.(1) leakage in back of unit(2) yellow residue in back of unit (3) smell of ammonia (4) unit will not cool.#6 on the recall notice states that if you previously paid to repair or replace a dometic refrigerator that failed due to this defect, you can be reimbursed for your costs pursuant to dometic's pre-notification reimbursement program.i have not had the unit fixed because of the cost but if they are willing to reimburse for the cost then they should also fix it at no cost.i contactedthe rv dealer thismorning andwas told to bring the rv to them to be fixed but on arrival was told they could put heat shield on the unit but that the cost of fixing the unit so that it would work would not be covered under the recall and therefore putting the heat shield on this wouldnot help my unit.they said that i could pay the $1200 to fix the unit and then they would put a heat shield on it at no cost to prevent it from happening again.i feel that since the unit was damaged do to overheating which caused the line to burst it should be fixed under the terms of the recall, then they could also put the heatshield on to prevent it from happening again. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2001 trail harbor.the vehicle has a dometic refrigerator, model rm2652.in january of 2008, the contact received a recall notice from dometic.he made no attempts to have the recall repaired because there were no failures at the time.months after receiving the recall notice, the contact noticed that everything in the refrigerator had spoiled.he went out to the rear of the vehicle and noticed some sort of leakage.he called dometic and was referred to three different repair locations; however, none of them would repair the failure.in addition, dometic would not authorize any repair work to be performed.the contact feels that since he received a recall notice, he should be able to have the failure repaired for free.the recall number was unknown.
I don't know if there is anything that can be done now, but maybe if there is, someone can point me in the right direction.we received the recall letter back in october(10/8/2007) for our unit and immediately went to get it fixed. As with others, all they did was put a metal shield up in our uni("recall kit")t. At this point, it was the end of the season for us so we put it in storage. We were unable to get it out again until april and that is when we discovered our unit was not working. Then, the next morning, there was a horrible ammonia smell and yellow leaking out the back. When we got it back home, dometic said they would not pay for the repair. We finally got them to pay for a new cooling unit, but we had to pay the labor, which was $392. Do i have any recourse? we also had to pay for a hotel room(around $100) because we had to evacuate because of the ammonia smell. Truly overwhelming, burns your eyes and nose so we couldn't stay in the camper and we were too far from home to come back. If they would have replaced the refrigerator in the first place, we would not have been out of pocket almost $500.thanks for any input.

Re: safety recall notice, dometic corporationcustomer number 22213898 event 1668811398i received a notice of a recall on defective refrigerator in my 2002 rv. When i first called they the operator said that dometic would pay for a road trip since my trailer was not able to be towed. On july 7, 2008, the dometic operator gave me a list of places to call for quotes on road calls. Irelayed the information to another dometic operator who took all of the information and said that they would contact the service place directly and have the service place contact me.when i did not receive a call back in over 2 weeks, i called dometic yesterday and was told completely different information. I was told that my paper works was sent to the wrong place and that dometic does not pay for road calls. The operator corinthiasaid she was to have someone call me back in the next 10 minutes. No one called back . I called today and spoke with amanda who said that my paper work was nowhere to be found and that she would transfer me to "escalation operator," the escalation operator beth said that dometic only pays $60.00 for a road call and that is if you meet a certain criteria. I said that i was upset that i have been given the run-around. Beth said that she will look for my paperwork. If it has not been approved then the operators have to call service places to see if they can get anyone to do a road call for $60.00. If they do not find someone then they have to call places to find the cheapest one. She gave me a time frame for approval but no time frame on the amount of time it would take the operators to call other places for quotes that they had me doing for the first week of july. It is impossible for me to tow my trailer to have it services because it sits on a camp ground up in windham, ny, that is 150 + miles away from my home and i have no truck to tow it with.i have been given wrong information and sent and transferred to many operators from dometic.respectfully,

Our 2002 dometic rv refrigerator model rm2652 cooling unit just failed on our last camping trip.i just found out it was recalled when i was looking around on the internet to find out what was wrong with it. In fact, a local rv shop guy said he just wrote up a quote for an identical fix. Said they would pay for the install of the cooling unit, but i'm not sure if that's even correct.not only do i feel this is unfair, but if i had the recall repair work done on it in a timely matter, the cooling unit may not have failed and our like-new condition refrigerator may still be working.

Dometic refrigerator recallmodel # 2652serial # 223 00530i found out about this recall, and called them, and got paperwork that said they would be in touch.they never did get back to me, though, and i simply forgot about it.yesterday evening, i went into my tt, and there was a yellow trail of something leaking from the refer.there was a smell of ammonia inside and the refer wasn't working.i opened the outside cover, and this morning, i heard a hiss sound as if something was leaking.when i stuck my head closer, i was hit with the strong smell of ammonia and saw the yellow stuff running down.well, i contacted dometic about it, and they said that the recall is a fix to keep this from happening, but they will not cover the repairs after it has happened from their recall problem.this makes no sense at all. They will install a part to keep it from happening, but they will not fix it when it happens before their recall part can be installed.i believe that if they have this recall on your site, as well as several other sites, but they are not following through by fixing the problem that their fix was suppose to cure after it happens, that someone should be made to repair them completely at their expense.
August 2007 our refrigerator stopped working. I got a voluntary recall notice approximately june 27, 2008 from dometic on the refrigerator in my 2006 sandpiper trailer stating that there could be a problem of a fatigue crack developing in the boiler tube of the refrigerator. If the boiler tube fails it could cause a fire. I took the trailer into a dometic approved repair center to have it fixed. All the repair kit consisted of was putting a piece of tin around the burner so that if the boiler tube did fail it would contain the fire. They did not fix the problem all they did was put a band-aid on it. On december 1, 2008 i received another notice stating the problem with the dometic refrigerator. Again i called the dometic recall line and ask them about the problem. Dometic looked up my refrigerator serial number and stated that their records showed that repair kit had been installed. I told dometic that this was just a band-aid, they did not fix a potential problem with the boiler tube. I ask what would happen if the boiler tube failed now and was told that if it was still under warranty they would fix it. This seems to be a serious problem, dometic states in the recall notice not to run the refrigerator and all they do for a fix is put a band-aid on it. Why can't dometic be forced to fix the problem?

Thank you.

I just received notice from dometic corp that the lp/elect refrigerator in my '06 sunline travel trailer is subject to a recall (recall 08e03200) because a defective weld and/or defective boiler tube subject to metal fatigue subject to failure resulting in a coolant leak and fire.the proposed correction consists of installing a secondary housing to contain any leaked coolant and a sensor to shut off the lp.this proposed "correction" does not address the defect or correct the admittedly defective unit which is subject to failure. I have a '99 malard 26m travel trailer (vin # [xxx]) with a dometic rm2652 (serial # 85100049) refrigerator in it. The refrigerator failed so i starting shopping for one and came across a "recall" for dometic rv refrigerators. I contacted dometic regarding the recall and they told me that they will not pay to repair or replace the unit. The unit failed due to a crack in the boiler tube and all of the amonia frefrigerant leaked out. This could have caused a fire. Dometic claims that they will only pay for a modification to the unit only after i pay to have it fixed. The recall notice listed on their website says in paragraph 6 "if you previously paid to repair or replace a dometic refirgerator that failed due to this defect, you can be reimbursed for your costs pursuant to dometic's pre-notification reimbursment program". I have talked to several people at dometic and they refuse to pay for repair or replacement of the unit. This unit failed due to this known defect which is a potential fire hazard and i believe dometic should at least pay for most if not all of the costs associated with the replacement of the unit. I have ordered a new unit because i need one but would like to know if they can help pay for the replacement. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I received a recall notice from skyline corporation for dometic refrigerator recall. Our travel trailer had all 4 issues that was described. Went to dometic website and entered model number and serial number and came back that my unit is affected. Took to rv dealer that we had bought our unit from and explained the issue and the recall notice. They were familiar with the recall and had us bring the unit up to take a look at. They called back with news that the refrigerator is shot and it had a bad cooling unit and leaked all the coolant out. The cost of repair was $1300 for cooling unit or $1650 for a new refrigeration. I was told they had contacted dometic and they would not cover the cooling unit under the recall. The boiler tube that has a fatigue crack is recalled and then leaks the pressurized coolant out thus being a fire hazard. This is the cooling unit. I have contacted a certified tech who works on air and cooling who also does appliances to verify this. Now either dometic is not standing behind their recall or this dealer was trying to pull a fast one as they would not get full shop rate and part mark up on the recall repair. We just want our refrigerator fixed. Ketelson rv in hiawatha, iowa is dealer. Mike in service was contact. Refrigerator model # rm 2652, serial # 13700739. It is a 2002 travel trailer, model nomad.

The refrigerator in my rv quit working , when i went to look into replacing it or buying a new one, i learned there was a recall # (06e-076)on them for what had happen to mine, but when i took to get serviced they said since my had already quit they would not fix it. It was only good for before it quit running, what if it would have burned the trailer up in the mean time i question that wouldn't be there problem ether. I think they should have to replacethe refrigerator.
We own a gulf stream innsbrook equipped with a dometic model rm 2652 refrigerator.we received the recall information and watched the refrigerator for signs listed in the recall. It began to show the signs listed and failed to work as soon as those signs became present.we took the camper to a certified dealer who submitted the information to dometic, they refused to honor the recall due to the failure.we were told the unit failed due to the fatigue crack.i find it ridiculous that dometic can issue a recall that says they produced a faulty product but the only thing we can be protected from is catching on fire.can someone make them replace all of these units that are failing so the consumer does not have to bear the substantial cost of replacement?at this time we have not replaced the unit as we are trying to find an alternative to a dometic unit.

Our 2002 dometic rv refrigerator model rm2652 cooling unit just failed on our last camping trip.i just found out it was recalled when i was looking around on the internet to find out what was wrong with it. In fact, a local rv shop guy said he just wrote up a quote for an identical fix. I never received or was notified of a recall by dometic.i called dometic and reported this and they said they would only install the recall kit but will not replace the cooling unit.however, since then i learned that up to april 08 they were replacing the cooling unit on even much older refrigerators.i feel this is unfair that they would stop replacing them just because.they customer rep. Said they would pay for the install of the cooling unit, but i'm not sure if that's even correct.not only do i feel this is unfair, but if i had the recall repair work done on it in a timely matter, the cooling unit may not have failed and our like-new condition refrigerator may still be working.

Dometic rm2652 fridge has fracture on boiler. Dometic has obvious problem with this fridge. They did a recall and i never was notified. Their recall was a safety recall. But it also states that is we have problems listed the recall is valid for us. I have problems listed and was told they would not take care of repairing my fridge for me. I just talked with tiffany with dometic at 888-446-5157 ext. 7808.she informed me that this recall has affected many units that need replacing but their company was only doing the recall.she explained the recall as a safety measure.i explained to her once again that dometic should be responsible for the unit since this recall is what caused the unit to fail.she said that she understood but dometic would not fix it.i requested to speak with a supervisor but wasn't given one.i would like to file a complaint against this company.is there anything that you can do to make this company 'do the right thing' and fix all units in this same situation?thanks for your help!----may 27, 2008 11:18 am[t]his continues to be a problem.i contacted dometic this morning about this recall again.i was told two weeks ago that they would provide me a date to get my unit repaired.i informed dometic about the condition of the unit at that time.i was now informed by dometic that they would not repair or replace my unit.they informed me that they would only put in a kit.i had the unit checked by a qualified service department (bumgarner camping center, hudson, n.c.) this past weekend.they informed me that the unit had leaked the coolant solution from this recall and the unit would need replacing.they said that it would be cheaper to replace the unit.i feel that the recall is what caused this unit to fail and it should be replaced or repaired.can someone from your agency contact dometic and get a ruling on this? i appreciate your help.model number-rm 2652serial number-447 00554.
Recall on dometic refrigerator model # rm2652 serial number 24303533. We took our camper to lakeside rv in anderson scto have to recall taken care of. We did not use our camper until the following spring. The furnace or refrigerator would not work. My husband called the lakeside rv, because we were camping in ga. He could tell the safety switch would not close. It stayed in the open position as if the camper were on fire. After talking with a tech at lakeside, he disconnected the safety switch, at which time the refrigerator and furnace started back working. After our trip he put the switch back in place. Lakeside rv said the switch / recall has nothing to do with the furnace/frig not working. After calling again this summer , they made an appointment to lookat our camper and "work on the furnace". I told them the furnace is not the problem . The camper i still under warranty, however the problem did not start until the safety switch/ duct was put on. I just want to camp in my camperwith my kids and feel safe. I want it fixed right without a cost to me .

We purchased a bison horse trailer with living quarter new in jan 06.the refrigerator in the unit was recalled by dometic.dometic had us carry the trailer to kelly trailer sales in b'ham, al for the recall work.we were having cooling problems with the refrigerator and told kelly so.cooling problems was one of the indicators listed in the mfg recall.therefore, i take the indicator problem to be a result of the defective part.kelly did the recall work but my refrig is still having cooling problems.dometic has advised kelly should not have done the recall work until the problem with the refrig was fixed.dometic also advised it was the consumers responsibility to pay for the repair of the refrig or to purchase a new refrig if repair wasn't possible.dometic is making consumers pay for damages caused by a mfg's defect.this is bringing undue profits into dometic and they are making money and profit off of a recall.in addition, my refrig is not fixed and therefore still dangerous.it can catch on fire per the recall notice.i am sure they are doing this to everyone and not just to us.

Dometic has a recall on the rv type 2 door refrigerator model rm2652 that was installed by sundowner trailers mfg. In my sierra 720 / 8010 living quarters horse trailer. This recall is due to a possible fatigue crack in the boiler/gas tube that would potentially become a " torch" if escaping gases got to an ignition source, which also resides at the boiler tube location as this is a combo gas/electric appliance, causing a vehicle fire.dometic has come up with a work around bandaid, which would, hopefully, shut down the gas flow by installing a sensor near or on the boiler tube to detect the gas leak.hopefully, this would happen before the entire unit became a 70mph ball of flames which would cause injury and / or death to my surprise winning show horses which would value into the $100,000.00 range.i am absolutely scared to subject my horses to that kind of potential danger in hopes that dometic's bandaid will work.if this were just another rv that didn't transport valuable live stock, i wouldn't worry so much about it as i do carry insurance.however, to take this chance with several lives, i just don't think it is worth it ! your attention into this matter would be greatly appreciated.please reply so that i know which direction to proceed... Thank you.

Dometic rm 2652 serial # 236-04099i have one of the recall refrigerators that has the fatigue crack that already happened. I'm being told by dometic that i have to replace the cooling unit in the refrigerator before they will perform the "recall" work. A fatigue crack is caused by a improperly designed unit or workmanship so how is it they are being allowed to put a secondary burner guard or what ever it's called to prevent a fire instead of having to fix the real problem ? these cooling units are $600-$900 plus installation and they still have the same problem as the old ones ! my understanding is that there are over 900,000 of these refrigerators affected @ $600apiece (mine lasted less than 5 yrs) dometic has quite a racket going on. I'm really frustrated that companies can sell a product they know is defective and then tell you well we can sell you a new cooling unit . I'm sure there are more people that have or gone through the same ordeal i'm going through. My response from dometic was these things don't last forever. My response to you is it should last longer than 4 camping seasons (april- october).

- the contact called to discuss recall #06e076000listed in the highway magazine regardingdometic refrigerator.the contact owns a 2003 big foot trailer. Updated 01/29/07.
August 2007 our refrigerator stopped working. We never got the recall till january 2008 but when we tired to get the dometic warranty to help pay for the cost of the refrigerator they hung up on us and would not talk to us about any why they would help us so we bought a new refrigerator and sent them a letter. They return the letter saying that the post-notification repair occurred later than march 1, 2007.
Dometic sent us a recall about their refrigerators in recreational vehicles. We had our refrigerator worked on per the recall and the repair place informed us of a yellow residue around the boiler and gas igniter indicating to them a refrigerator leak. Dometic has refused to repair the frig even though they are aware of the faulty defect welds in the boiler tube leading to a possible leak. They are only installing a shield to retard the ignition if a fire should ignite due to the leaking gas from the faulty welds. Our unit (dometic rm2652) is 4 years old and has definitely not been abused or overused. We believe dometic should have to replace the cooling units on the refrigerator that are defective. I understand that norcold has a recall and they are replacing the cooling units.

We received keystone rv dometic refrigerator recall, nhtsa recall #07v-134 regarding defect related to refrigerators installed in rv's.our model number #rm2652, serial #21600204 was involved in the recall.after reading the literature regarding the refrigerator, we looked at our unit and it had the indicators described in the paperwork. After looking at our refrigerator we contacted dometic corporation for list of repair centers in our area.dometic gave us around 10 locations to contact for service however no service centers wanted to look or repair the unit.finally we got a service center to look into our problem which was at least 1 month to 1 1/2 months from the original call.finally our rv was going to the shop at the end of may and we were told our entire unit had to be replaced.our unit had all of the leading indicators as stated in the recall letter, however now we forced to pay $1600.00 out of our pocket to repair our unit.contacted dometic today 6/6/08 and was informed that they would not help defer any cost because they wouldn't reimburse any monies after april 2008.how can this be possible to deny customer reimbursement for something that broke and should be covered by your company and states that they had a problem but now don't know to follow through.

Now dometic tell me i am on my own even though they put a junk frig in my unit. The whole defective part should have come out and be replaced not the temp fix they had done.

We received a recall notice for our dometic rv frig. We took it to a rv service center and thought that they fixed it. No where in the recall information tells that the problem is not fixed that only a piece of metal is placed to supposedly prevent a fire from occurring when the defective refrigerator leaks coolant. The service center did not explain that to us either. Now i read in rv forums that many of the refrigerators caught on fire anyway even though they have been worked on for the recall. This recall remedy is a failure. Nhtsa needs to take more action to truly protect consumers from certain tragic consequences of this defect. I do not think our rv is safe with this refrigerator in the condition it is in.

We received a recall notice in the fatigue crack on the boiler tub on the refrigerator. By the time we could get it in to be repaired the crack had already happened. Dometic states that they only put a shield around the effected area to stop it from igniting a fire. This does not keep the gas from entering the living quarters. It is also stated in the recall notice that "if you previously paid to repair or replace a dometic refrigerator that failed due to this defect, you can be reimbursed for you cost pursuant to dometic's pre-notification reimbursement program."what they tell us is if we replace the fridge at a cost of $1200 they will put the bandage on it. I own a 2002 tmiberland rv., that has a dometic refrigerator md.# rm 2652, serial # 11303374. The refrigerator stopped cooling, so i phone a rv. Repairman, he came out and said " the reason for this failure is due to aboiler tube that was defective and dometic has a recall on them and they could cause a fire. However when i called dometic they said " we don't replace the cooling units, we just give you a heat shield to protect against fires.if they have a defective boiling tube that makes the refrigerator go out and cause fires, then they should be required to replace the unit. Just like toyota!
