1) replaced rack & pinion @ 41k miles 2) passenger window has been repaired 4 times at dealer and is working more poorly than ever before 3) two batteries replaced in first 2 years-i'm on my third now 4) suv towed due to air bag light.
From the day i saw that 96 dodge truck rolling down the street i fell in love. I saved every way possible to purchase the big bad 1500 4x4 5.9(98)with every option avail. Had everything and fromweek 1 had problems. Front windshield cracked while driving "due to frame stress" it about 2 weeks into it. Brake failure cause serious assault on guard rail, and dodge said i must have been driving to fast (@ 30 mph). They refused any warranty because "nothing can touch the wheel" and since the incident occurred after 93 days lemon laws did not apply so after (2) $900 brake jobs two weeks apart everything was fine. Not to mention damage to body i paid for out of pocket. Now i just go through an entire set of brakes every 6 months. But i stop until then.. I replaced the transmission at 38 k miles, note the warranty on that is 36 k miles. I have had steering linkage become so loose instantaneously (or 3 separate occasions) that it felt like i was running over my own axle, which is another $1000 each time. For the past three emissions inspections the on board computer fails so i have to take it to the dealer while they charge $200 to fix it, but will not give straight answer to what is problem. And to night as i type, i spread the grime of engine crud across my keyboard as i try to figure out why the fuel filter suddenly stopped. Amazingly i have had this truck for 5 years because it has kept me too broke to buy something else. Any "legal" suggestions on what can be done would be appreciated. I recognize i have spent more than $15,000trying to keep this thing running right, and that is too much for a "late model" truck. I would love to blame a dealer but i have been to just about all of them around here and with the smiles on there faces i hear "that will be another $950 sir".. Good grief. *nlm

S,bar link ,replaced twice within 3 weeks ,no good.transmission failure took to transmission shop ,replaced pressure sol, governor, gov switch, switchand seleriond, still acting the same.left controlarmandboltkit , also say needs right side .will not alligne .light under hood comes on when driving ,and horn does not work no one can fig out why ..?dodge should cover all tranny and frount sup on these trucks ,found out after purchaced all the things that go wrong with this yr of tk.96 dodge ram 4x4 1500 also the 4x4 is hard to shift into and take out and sometimes doesn not come out ,even when light indcates it is out of four wheel.never again dodge!! numerous dates of work to this vehicle.
Rough idle/stalls ,sometimes it doesn't start. Will start up spit and sputter then it will die. Otherwise it will stall when you come to a complete stop or while driving down the road.
Ignition switch-i stop to the store one monrning and when returning to my vehicle to start, i couldn't turn the ignition switch.i had to have the car towed to the dealership and they had to replace my ignition cylinder because it locked up, which cost me $386.02.i had this car for only 3 years.will it be every 3 years i have to spend close to $400 to replace the cylinder again?
Engine froze - only owning car for 10 months (this happened in 4/02 - car was purchased 6/01)....had to buy new car and attach loan from this junk.
I have a 1998 dodge grand caravan with just under 71,000 miles on it. We first noticed some anti freeze on the ground and could see it leaking thinking it was a hose or something. I went under to take a look and it was leaking from the engine block. I brought it in to have it checked out and it turns out the headgasket sprung a leak. I gave them the go ahead to fix it. He took it apart and said their was a 2 inch piece missing from the gasket. I couldn't believe it. It cost me $1000+ to have it repaired .what a piece of crap.
We purchased this vehicle from v & hford inc, marshfield, wi.in june 2003. The next day after i got it i started it & it started to squeal.my husband noticed transmission fluid leaking as well.we took it back to the dealer, we were told that the fan clutch & serpentine belt were shot, as well as a little leak in the transmission. They put some kind of sealer on it & continued to leak.(also during all of this time, our rpm's kept jumping.) after the 3rd time, they said they did a factory authorized repair & put what was referred to as a "cock ring" in it to seal it.this seams to have taken care of this.then when the truck was put in reverse it kept clunking, the u-joints went out next, then thelatch broke on our glove box.meanwhile the rpm's keep jumping, it has been back in the shop a total of probably 7 to 8 times so far.our service engine light came on & flashed the code of fuel injector #8, when it was put through the diagnostic test, however we are learning this is still not the problem.last weekend i was going to put the truck in the garage.i put in drive, and it took off on me without me even touching the gas. It has done this several times now while on the road.now for the past week, when you leave a stop sign, it will shift once andstay at about 3000 - 3500 rpmand will not shift until you are ready to stop. When you try to stop the trottle sticks and the truck wants to go. We are at loss what to do.we have obviously purchased a lemon that it a hazard to be on the road.to trade it in or try to sell it outright seems to be a crime, because we know the horrible things wrong with it. I am certain that it is only a matter of time before my husband & i and our 2 children are seriously hurt or killed by the spuratic behavior of this dangerous vehicle. Please advise us what to do.is there a lemon law or any thing that can help us. Meanwhile, we are stuck making payments on this .
Engine failure due to oil pump failure and sludge buildup.first incident happened on 2-11-02 at 65,499 miles.engine replaced and second incident occurred onjuly 16, 2003 at 91,749 miles.
Tensioner assembly replaced 4 times within 12 month period. 3 of within 60 days. As a result the shaft and pulley on the power steering was bent requiring replacement. Dodge is aware of the issue and provided a part to hold the belt onto the tensioner. It did not work. The belt has been replaced 6 times under 70k miles. Mopar part warranties have been used, however, $100 deductibles for an extended warranty has been collected 3 separate times. Fortuneatly, to date, no injuries have occurred.
Upper ball jjoint front suspension was giving me problems and had to be replaced and was ready to give out when it was taken in.
Two months ago, a new frame was installed on my 2002 dodge durango. On sept. 14, 2003 my daughter was in an accident on interstate 26 coming to my home. She said the car went out of control and she hit the concrete wall and ended up in the side of interstate. The driver side of the axle looks like it broke. The tire has not been found yet which has the studs, hub etc.
The hatchback support strut on my caravan failed today - the bolt that supports the strut in the car body sheared off, while the vehcile was stopped at a stop sign. The strut expanded inside the cavity in the body as far as it could once the bolt sheared.i brought my car in for the recall (97v079000) in about 1997. I know chrysler performed the recall because the new "bigger" washers are on the lift supports.as i have no way to examine the bolts for stress cracking, there is no maintenance i can perform to insure the rear liftgate won't fall onto the head of me or someone in my family. Was this supposed to be a one-time recall for chrysler? i got the impression that this recall was supposed to "fix" the shearing bolt problem, but it is surprising to me that it has returned. I think it is very dangerous.

My 2001 grand cherokee is experiencing a severe vibration problems when braking.i've contacted the nw jeep dealership in beaverton oregon and they have informed me this problem is not taken care by the jeep corporation.i believe this is an inherit defect to the car since i had this same problem fixed a year ago and now they are refusing to fix the same issue since it is not under warantee any longer.i've spoken to several jeep owner on the similar vintage vehicle and they are also having the same issue.i believe the government should force the jeep corpoartion to put the vehicle as a recall item.
My 1999 dodge durango has had to have upper & lower ball joints replaced.mechanic informed us that if an evasive move to brake & swerve to avoid an accident, the front end of the durango would drop to the ground."ball joints holding on by a thread" says my mechanic and not built strong enough for the vehicle.*nlm
Brake rotor on my 2000 dodge dakota have been turned down twice and replace once in 30,000 miles.the was due to excessive pulsating and degradation of stopping ability.i am concerned that this problem is a safety issue due to the occurrence of reduced braking power.this problem is occuring once again and needs to be remedied.i have been told by dodge that is is normal wear and will happen.a warped brake rotor is not considered normal wear.the pulsation of the brakes can easily cause someone to lose control on a slippery surface.it is also concievable that the abs system may not work properly when the rotor is warped.please look further into this, thank you.
Somthing under the truck rattles/ stalls in reverse ,will not shift out of 2nd gear, acts like it is locked in 4wd all the time.
Transmission problems, i had to get a rebuilt transmission every year since the year i bought it.
Whie driving 45 miles per hour i had step on my brake to stop the truck. I had to sverve to the right so i wouldn't hit the car. Also i had the brakes worked and now my rotors have heat cracks after being replaced. Now i have to replace again this the fouth time. Dealer say nothing wrong with the brakes just that they are wearing out front rotors.
Ball joints front end problems .
Upper and lower ball joints failed.
Today i took my 1998 dodge durango (vin-1bhs28y6wf132671) for the yearly virginia safety inspection. The vehicle was taken to dominion dodge in salem, virginia where i purchased the vehicle new in 1998.shortly after my arrival and notifiing the service manager what i was there for, he came and told me that my right lower ball joint was "bad" and needed replacement, and he was well aware that this facility had replaced 3 of them april 2002. Including this one that needed replacing 2 years later, 11,203 miles since replaced. When these were replaced in april 2002 the same inferior parts were installed as when the vehicle was bought new!! so this vehicle has a total of 41,780 as of today and i am stating to put a second set of ball joints on my dodge durango! when are you people going to do something??
On december 27, 2002 i brought my dodge durango to just cruisin, inc to have my annual state inspection performed.i was notified that i failed inspection due to out of specification conditions on my front suspension.the vehicle had 62,810 miles at the time of this inspection.they notified me that they believed this to be a premature wearing of the parts.on 1/17/03, the ordered parts had been received, and i had them replaced.just cruisin removed and replaced both lower ball joints, the left upper ball joint, and both inner tie rod ends.i did not notify chrysler of this problem yet.today, i read an article regarding 4 accidents and 81 complaints of premature wear on the front suspension of dodge durangos and decided to file this complaint.i also intend to contact chrysler regarding recoupment of my expenses.because the parts were replaced w/ factory parts, i probably will still need to replace w/ the redesigned parts when they come out.

My ball joints and right contol arm have gone out again.on 12-6-02 i took my car into the dealership and they replaced my ignition switch and right control arm and hub bearings.no i have the same problem again and they do not want to help me with my problem.i just drive in the city.my ro # is 262789.it was a done at valencia dodge.

I have a dodge durango with the problems that have been on the news and dodge says they will not recall it, i think that is wrong are they waiting for people to be killed before they recall it

A conversion top was put on my dodge grand caravan.the tv has never been properly secured.while driving, the tv flew out of the top, ripping cords, swinging back and forth, while hanging from a cable.the tv just barely missed the head of my child.no one is taking responsibility for this problem.someone could have been killed.this tv weighs about 10 pounds.the tv bounces around while driving.while bringing this car in for other unrelated service problems, i would always ask them to secure the tv.it was secured by velcro!.
Automatic transmission failure.2000 dodge caravan. With only 54000miles, it felt like it was losing acceleration uphill. Immediately pulled over. Towed to dealership and they said a hydralic hose broke and that the tranny would have to be rebuilt to the tune of $2700! get real. These trannies are obviously having problems!
Truck wouldn't start, intake mainifold gaskets leaking oil on to spark plugs.replaced intake manifold gaskets and plenum gaskets,at dealer. Had tune-up done spark plugs replaced at dealer. Check engine light came on 3000 miles later. Took to another dealer claims plugs were not gapped right. Paid $158.00, for leak down test and re-gapping of spark plugs.
Ball joints failed.owner replaced 900.00 cost. Need to replace again, feels like alignment problem but will not take alignment.
Replaced upper ball joints again, first was on 7/7/03 39,414 miles on my 1998 dodge durango, now again 3/25/0445,452 miles1st time was under warranty ,now out of warrantyit cost me 853.23 will i have to have them replaced again @6k miles, we were never told there may be a defect and to be cautious.the consumer doesn't understand why his vehicle is being omitted from the ball joint recall.
Consistent stud failures on rear wheels of dodge durango.other dodges durangos are probably affected.i have reminding dodge of this problem over the last 3 years yet they chose to ignore. Loss of studs may result in loss of tire and potentially death.stud failures isolated to rear wheels only no stud failures on fronts.most probable reason poor heat treatment of studs.*la
When i purchased the vehicle in june of 2002.the upper and lower ball joints had to be replaced.the vehicle had 49,000 miles on it.the cost was over $900.00.less than a year later, at 62,000 miles the upper ball joint and tie rod ends and brakes and rotors need replaced.*ph
2001 durango r/t.second failure of transmission (11/26/03) @ 35000 miles.handled by different dealerships and no one knows exactly why or how transmission is failing.rpm tachometer races between 100 - 800 rpm during driving conditions including load, light load, flat terrain, and occasionally down hill when driving of speeds greater than 45 mph in drive and overdrive.excessively hard clung when shifting between 1st and 2nd and between 2nd and 1st.1st failure (2/6/02) was before pcm and transmission flashrecalls @ 20000 miles.service manager insisted that this was a normal thing and his jeep did the same thing.after much convincing that i would prefer the opinion of a tech instead did they take the vehicle for repair.vehicle was kept for an additional week than what was promised for delivery.vehicle was kept in garage for the 2 weeks and when picked up all personal items, electronics, tire jack, etc was missing (~ $2700 worth) and accusing me of leaving my doors unlocked (did not quite understand his point and aurguement since it sat in the dealerships garage for the 2 week duration).since ...transmission does not always go into park and occasionally drive, verbally told not a big deal by dealership service manager due to the transmission being flashed.noticed vehicle surging with rpm increase after driving a while.oh, by the way, yea, the ball joints needed replaced at ~18000 miles too (10/2002)!
1) replaced rack & pinion @ 41k miles 2) passenger window has been repaired 4 times at dealer and is working more poorly than ever before 3) two batteries replaced in first 2 years-i'm on my third now 4) suv towed due to air bag light.
Second time to go to dealership about warped rotors.they try to get away with just turning them, but issue just returns.dc has some major issues with their rotors and safety is a major factor, but the way they are dealing with the situation also needs to be addressed.
Motors on thewindows have failed three times in four years on two rear windows with very little use.

Ball joints wearing out to soon, outer tie rodsto big for vehicle, outer tie rods rub inner wheels when turning either direction, replaced outer tie rod ends at dealership, complained that there was problem but was told that was how it was made and sent on my way, please note that when tie rods rub wheels it leaves grooves in tie rods.
This is in regards to work that was done on my 1999 dodge durango at extreme dodge, in jackson, mi.for starters my dodge is only a 1999 with only at the time 71,000 milies, it wasleasedbefore i purchased it which indicates to me that all maintence should have been all up to date, which leads me to my next dilima, itoo always make sure i maintain my dodge, i am the only driver and i only drive from work to home, i dont do a lot of traveling, therefore why did i have to replace an engine that cost me over$ 5,000 to only have to take it back every day in the same week to get it back still running and sounding like crap, with scratches all along the front two panels where the mechanic had to work, a pepsi can had exploded inside after i had just had my inside detailed.since all of this, i have had to replace my water pump, a fuel injector, and not to mention the next day that i brought it back in i had to spend another $70.00 due to the fact that because this was their first engine they have done i had to fork over more money because they did not realize they should have replaced this piece the first time.when i brought this all to the manager in charge at extreme dodge he was not understanding at all, was not aware of the numerous times i have brought my truck in.i am not happy at all with the service i have received at extreme.i have not received an explanation of why i had to replace my enginge, i am just finding it hard to believe a new engine with such low miles and not that old of a truck.i have received no opology from any one at extreme just a very hard time, i had to take time off work for all of the repairs and unnecessary trips i had to make, and a very hard time from the manager at extreme i will not be purchasing a nother vehicle from extreme, or do i know if i will purchase another dodge!!!!!
I have had my vehicle into two places for underbody inspections and m-59 dodge told me my ball joints (upper & lower) and control arms would need to be replaced.i had m-59 dodge replace them once at 44,000 miles on my '99 durango and now at 77,000 they say they need it again?so, i took it into anderson dodge for a second opinion and they said they were fine (good) actually.so, i checked defects off the nhsta website and saw several instances of ball joints failing at every 30,000 miles.so, i called a dodge parts department and asked what the part #s were for ball joints and control arms for a '99 durango and for a '99 dakota (4x4) and guess what they are the same numbers?????let me guess, design the 4x4 dakota and just add all that weight and moment arms of the back of the suv top and lift gate and not expect the equations to change for wear and tear of the front suspension??????and then i found out that the suspension was modified in the 2000 model year.what a surprise???i wonder if nhsta would be interested in my findings??????now i am going to a third dodge dealer for another inspection to see if i really do have a problem with ball joints and control arms.if these ball joints i have now are ok, i want to know if i can tap them and put in a grease fitting in order to extend the life of them.if however, they are not ok, i am going to file a complaint with nhtsa and show them my findings.i believe a design flaw should be a recall. *nlm
Transmission in my 2000 dodge durango sport 2x4 has failed two times placing the driver and the general public in a dangerous situation.both times the vehicle was being driven on a freeway with speeds up to 55 mph when the transmission slipped and kept the vehicle at 30 mph.the vehicle was sent in once before this resulting in a rebuilt transmission from a "generic" transmission shop.now the vehicle is slipping on occassion and the dealership after promising a brand new transmission from a certified dodge dealership has failed to comply.
My 2000 dodge durango has 48,000 miles and the front right upper ball joint is failing.my dodge dealer advised me to not take the vehicle out of town.they are unable to get the parts to repair it.i have a pre paid vacation coming up that will now require a car rental.something needs to be done and soon.
Truck shakes when braking at slow or moderate speed. Replaced front rotors and pads three months ago at 38,000 miles. Now with 43,000 miles the shaking has returned. *la
Sunday morning, i started my truck. The truck warmed up for nearly 30 minutes prior to my trek home. I then drove the truck for nearly 90 minutes prior to reaching interstate 95 in houlton.when i started driving, the temp was 16. When i entered the interstate, i set my cruise control to 85. After traveling for nearly 80 minutes, my truck rapidly accelerated without warning. I tapped my brakes in an attempt to disengage the cruise control. This did not work. I then pushed the cruise control buttons on my steering wheel, in an attempt to turn off the cruise. This did not work either.i pushed on the accelerator thinking that it was stuck. This made no difference. The truck was accelerating without warning or reason. My truck accelerated to 95 mph, and was continuing to climb. I had to do the following in order to get my truck stopped. I had to force the brakes on, which was the not very productive. I was able to slow the truck to 65 mph before placing the truck into neutral. After placing the truck into neutral, the engine raced out of control. The tachometer was maxed out. The engine stalled, as i rolled to a stop. After collecting my self and attempting to calm my wife down, i started the truck up. The accelerator was still stuck and the tachometer was past 7000 before i could get the truck shut off. I started the truck three more times and the above still occurred. I then slowly pushed the accelerator to the floor a couple of times with the truck, off. I then started the truck and pushed the accelerator to the floor. The truck then came out of what ever was going on. Outside temp 0. This really concerns me. This was a very scary event, and thankfully we were on the interstate in remote northern maine.if this occurred in or around rural maine it would have and could have been fatal.william smith18 fern wayrockport, [email protected]
Non accident....referring to an article in the peru tribune, peru, indiana 7/22/2003 regarding dodge durango failure of the upper ball joints on the front suspension.we own a 1998 durango and in 1999 had the joints replaced and they are now again in need of replacement in 2003.
I purchassed a 1999 dodge durango on 4-30-03 after driving the vehicle for a week the oil engine light came on. The truck was towed in and i was told that the oil pump was clogged with sludge. The did 3 oil changes to flush themotor. On or about 6-23-03 while driving down the road the abs light came on and the front wheel locked up at 45 mph causing $2604.00 in dammage. I have done research and it seems to me that others have had this same problem because of the none greaseable ball joints in this vehicle. They replaced the knockle, arm control, ball joint, shaft axl, hub brake, shield sp, sensor brake rotor, rim and tire.after this happened about two weeks later the motor seized up, and they put a rebuilt motor back in the truck covered by my extended warrenty. Now here it is almost a year later and the truck is in the shop bcause the transmission went. Upon putting the truck up on the lift they called and informed me that the front end is shot again both sides even the right side that they replaced less than a year ago, ball joints ect.
Started 2001 grand caravan ex after shopping run,abs and traction control check lights remained on.pulled over twice and restarted, same lights stayed on. Vehicle had 26,078 miles on it when this occurred.checked brake fluid level,o.k.luckily for our family, the vehicle still had enough brake pedal pressure, though compromised (squishy, not firm, secure and controlled as it was prior to the occurrence), and the brakes could still be used to stop vehicle.check the vehicle again after a few hours(checked brake fluid again, abs fuse checked-out o.k.,started vehicle)no change.no change the next day.*la
Engine failure due to oil pump failure and sludge buildup.first incident happened on 2-11-02 at 65,499 miles.engine replaced and second incident occurred onjuly 16, 2003 at 91,749 miles.
Upper and lower ball joints worn out. Both front lower ball joints replaced at 52264 k miles, 5/17/01 and again at 89387 k miles on 02/07/03. Also replaced the upper ball joints at 89387 k miles on 02/07/03.
Main support bracket on front frame of vehicle was only partly welded from factory. This held the support suspension on vehicle. Before it broke i did report possible front endproblem with the dealership. They said there was no problem. The vehicle broke down out of town on may 7 03. It is still broke. They said it need a brand new frame from factory. This vehicle only has 31000 miles on it. I have only put 2500 miles on vehicle since i had it. 2002 durango. I feel there are more vehicles out there like this.
I have a 1993 dodge grand caravan le & 1994 dodge grand caravan. Both are dark blue in color, and both vans are losing the paint from the hood, and top of both cars, i have found, every blue van i have seen, has this same problem, has their been any recalls on this problem!*ph
When requiring to stop quickly, front brakes lock up, and vehicle skids, rear anti-locks work but dont keep vehicle from skidding. Clicking noise from under dash when this happens. Have had several accidents due to this problem. Even at 35 mph on dry street they still lock up. Dealer wouldnt talk to me, refered me to dodge complaints, they tested the brake system and read that the computer showed no failure in braking system.
1998 dodge durango - suspension - front-control arm and upper ball joint has been replaced at least 3 times since we purchased the vehicle in dec 1999.we were advised in aug of this year that they need to be replaced again.

We've been having these problem since march 2002 two weeks after we bought the vehicle.we have tried everything to resolve this problem with daimler-chrysler. We too are seeking the help from a lawyer this coming monday. Please see that the right people get this information that the grand caravan has these problem and more too.i would like the number or website for the national highway traffic and safety please.

Good grief. *nlm

Truck shakes when braking at slow or moderate speed. Replaced front rotors and pads three months ago at 38,000 miles. Now with 43,000 miles the shaking has returned. *la
Second time to go to dealership about warped rotors.they try to get away with just turning them, but issue just returns.dc has some major issues with their rotors and safety is a major factor, but the way they are dealing with the situation also needs to be addressed.

Ball joints failed.owner replaced 900.00 cost. Need to replace again, feels like alignment problem but will not take alignment.

*nlm
Upper and lower ball joints worn out. Both front lower ball joints replaced at 52264 k miles, 5/17/01 and again at 89387 k miles on 02/07/03. Also replaced the upper ball joints at 89387 k miles on 02/07/03.

Upper and lower ball joints failed.
