Dexter axle has waged a private war with the mobile home industry which has created a dangerous suspension. They have elected to build a limited life axle, in other words built to fail. The mobile home industry has axle re-cycle which buy and reuse the axles. The axles are re-used until they fail. Why are the limited life axles even allowed on the highway? and how long is limited life? one mile or ten miles. Axles are being cut and welded, bent and straightened byt the re-cycle.wearing my seat belt will have no effect when a tire wheel combination comes through my windshield. Dc solar was a company ponzi scheme shutdown by the fbi:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/dc_solarhttps://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article236497933.htmltwo auction companies were chosen to liquidate the mobile solar generator trailers that dc solar owned:https://www.cagp.com/events/100-mobile-solar-generators/https://www.cagp.com/events/300-mobile-solar-generators/https://www.cagp.com/events/400-mobile-solar-generators/https://www.cagp.com/events/60-mobile-solar-generators-60-trailers/https://www.cagp.com/events/550-mobile-solar-generators/https://bidindustrial.com/dc-solar-mobile-solar-generator-trailers/in all of the auctions, the trailers that the solar generators are built on have been marketed as 9995 gvwr trailers. Recently i won two of the trailers at auction. When i went to pickup the trailers, upon further inspection i discovered that the trailers were actually 7000 gvwr.the reasons i'm reporting this as a safety concern are:1) at least one trailer i saw had a sticker placed over the top of the original factory vin/gvwr sticker. The original factory sticker said it was a 7000 gvwr trailer. The sticker placed on top said it was a 9995 gvwr trailer.2) many of the trailer did not have their original factory vin/gvwr sticker.3) all of these trailers were/are marketed as 9995 gvwr trailers.this is a safety concern because:some individuals/business that purchased trailers at auction were told that the trailers are 9995 gvwr, and received trailers with aftermarket stickers labeling them as 9995 gvwr. Other individuals/businesses received trailers that do not have a vin/gvwr sticker, so there is no easy way for the purchaser to verify the true rating. These individuals/business are likely operating the trailers at up to 42% over their actual weight rating, which is a safety concern as the trailer frames could fail and the couplers/brakes/tires/etc. Are not rated for 9995 gvwr.i have additional photos and documentation i can provide.
Driving on i-10 in north florida and towing a 2004, 16' casita trailer when i had sudden failure of the dexter axle. The entire right side collapsed causing the tire to start a fire in the fiberglass wheel well. Had to fight to keep control of vehicle and only was able to because i had a large truck as tow vehicle. Casita claims no responsibility and points to dexter. Sent the damaged axle to dexter who advised me the failure was due to it being over stressed. I had nothing in trailer except some clothes. The trailer was not overloaded. Since my accident i have learned that others have experienced the same problem and both casita and dexter have ignored the problem. I believe the axle is not sufficient for the trailer.
