My brother was killed in a motorcycle accident.when we received the helmet back, i noticed that the helmet had broken and the impact forced a part of the helmet inwards.i believe that this type of failure is unacceptable under fmvss part 218, section 5.particularly the impact resistance test.the motorcycle helmet was a daytona brand, model 218, skullcap, manufactured in feb 2008 and made in india.while my brother was most likely killed by massive internal injuries, i feel that the thin plastic shell and marginal liner are not satisfactory.part of the helmet was removed from his brain post mordem.the chin strap on the left side of the helmet was also pulled out completely.i can provide photos or a police report as soon as it becomes available.
I represent a law enforcement organization and believe a manufacturer may be selling a non-compliant helmet that advertises that it complies with fmvss 218 under daytona helmets.
