Product: curt manufacturing trailer hitches, specifically c12270 and c122703no failure experienced.the fit of the hitch is poor with respect to the tow-hook mounting points and available instructionsencourage tightening the fasteners in a way that can put unanticipated stress on the hitch and mounting points resulting in a failure.for reference, see https://www.curtmfg.com/masterlibrary/122700/installsheet/cm_122700_ins.pdfin my case, when the hitch was set in place as instructed, there remained a large gap (1") between the passenger side tow hook and the hitch side plate.i concluded that tightening the tow-hook / side plate bolt as described would likely damage the tow hook and cause the tow-hook to car frame weld to be stressed beyond design limits and possible fail.i brought this to the attention of the vendor using pictures to help communicate the problem and i received the reply: "tighten down the tow hook attachments and torque them into place first and then torque down the other bolts".i have heard of others who have suffered similar problem with some using spacers, but others who may not know better or who have been instructed poorly. Note the comment from s.chang on march 2011 who stated "i cranked the %&$#! out of the offending bolt and left it with about a 1/4 inch gap."(http://www.amazon.com/manufacturing-122703-class-trailer-old-style/dp/b0007ifx7a)i have seen a number of comments about this hitch / manufacturer that suggests that this fit problem is an often observed problem and my primary concern is that this hitch may be too often installed in an improper and unsafe manner.i do have photo's of the installed hitch if wanted.
