On july 9, 2010, we towed our vehicle with our motorhome using the blue ox patriotbraking system. After one day's use, the braking system had drained the battery on our automobile. We recharged the battery and continued on our trip. On july 10, when we stopped at our destination, the braking system had drained the battery again and had depressed the brake pedal all the way to the floor and it had to be pried up from the floor board. The automobile brake system was inoperable and had to be replaced. The blue ox patriot braking system had vaporized the brake fluid, brake rotors distorted from heat, brake pads friction material burned from metal backing, and the calipers were "welded" at all four wheels.had we continued, our vehicle would have caught on fire.

August 2012: purchased a blue ox patriot brk 2010had a local rv dealer install the towing bar on my 2012 honda crv.they called the blue ox company to verify the installation instructions as the box didn't have any.when i picked up my honda they went through the steps of how to set it up.i was very careful to pay attention and even make a laminated instructions to leave on the seat so i could go through them every time i had to go through the transmission check that honda requires.the unit was set at "3" for my type of car according to blue ox. Halfway through my trip i had rear brake trouble. It was covered under my warranty but i changed the setting to "0" so there would be no pressure applied to brakes.however when i got back from my trip after towing the car behind the motorhome i found out all 4 brakes were burnt, rotors ruined, calipers ruined and other items.honda will not cover this under the warranty because it was an after the market installation.blue ox blames honda and honda blames blue ox.honda said the brakes were being applied my whole trip of 3,000 miles.blue ox had me send the unit back to them for testing and at this posting i haven't heard from them.its going on two weeks now.im afraid to use this product ever again as it has done well over $5,000 worth of damage on a brand new car.
