Read article regarding nhtsa investigation indicating that "supr spoke" wheels have been failing castastrophically.odi is aware of 11 spoke-related failures of super spoke wheels manufactured by aerican wire wheel, inc. Of denton, tx. All catastrophic failures of he aww wheel resulted from its "defective design, with absence of quality control.on 10/10/02 odi opened an investigation, they were informed that aaw, inc. Had sold its assets to dayton wheel concepts of dayton, on. On 9/3/02 included in the sale was the purhaase of all materials related to aww's production of "super spoke" model wheels.there have been several related failures occurring between 2/2000 & 9/02.since odi's request for info. Dayton produced 32 super spoke wheels using aww components.of these 24 were recalled due to steel spokes pulling out of the machined aluminum hub with a potential for vehile crash & resultating in serious injuries.odi continues to gather information about these wheels & to ascertain whether, despite the sale of its assets to dayton, american wire wheel and/or any of its related companies can be held responsible for the super spoke wheels it produced.i would like to know why i have not been notified, and received a recall notice.if my life or someone else on the road is in danger, what can i do.
After being told of the failures of the aww superspoke wheels, i had no choice but to remove them from my 97 h-d motorcycle. I just cannot take the chance of risking my life and that of others. Someone has to be held accountable for these wheels. I paid a small fortune for these and now they sit in my garage.
I was driving my 1994 harley davidson when out of the blue my rear wheel locked up causing the bike to go into a skid and come to an unintended/abrupt stop.i looked at the rear wheel and was horrified to see that none of the spokes were attached to the hub and that the sprocket and rotor were resting on the gravel.this incident happened approximately 10 am fathers day morning 3 miles from my home.the rear rim had less than 300 miles on it since this is only the second time i have ridden this year and the day before was the only other day.both of the rims on the bike are the american wire wheel, 40 super spoke rims and were new.thank god i was on one of the straight sections of road when this happened.i have many pictures, some at the scene moments after the incident. *nlm
The contact owns evo weld wheels (manufacturer not available) installed on a 2001 nissan titan. The contact stated while having the tires changed by the dealer he was informed that the wheels were cracked. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The contact replaced the wheels. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
I have 80 spoke american wire wheels on my 94 harley with tube-less tires.this week-end while traveling in southern indiana i noticed my front end feel "light".as we pulled into a small town for lunch i noticed my tire was low, almost flat.i reviewed the tire and it looked fine so i checked the rim.it had about a 5-6 inch crack around the top of the rim and the liner was bulging through the rim!i couldn't believe there could be such a structural failure on a rim.needless to say we were very lucky and had to be trailed home.*la
I have a 1999 cadillac catera. It has been the most trouble some car i have ever had. The engine light comes on and reads mutiple cylender misfire. Also i had to replace the rear main seal at 60,000 miles. Which was six months after i bought the car. It costed me $600.00 to fix it. I also have alot of blow by in oil. Also the cams are leaking a littel bit. I bought the car from whiteker murcurey lincon in west st.paul mn. I did not even get a owners manuel. I called them and all they told me was the thirty day warrenty was up and there was notheing they could do. All i want is a nice running car not to get riped off. Now i have to spend more money just to get the misfire away. It still a new car but with to many problems it would be nice if cadillac could give me a deal on the repairs. Remember i now have had it for only 7/mo. The dealer also told me they have had notheing but problems with the catera. To late for who ever owns one.
