Dear national highway traffic safety administration,i am a senior at nest+m, a gifted and talented high school in the lower east side of manhattan.i am writing to you because i am working on a project in my government class about making changes for the betterment of my community.i know that this department does not really deal with street installations on this minute of a level, but i am requesting a stop sign as well, so hopefully this association will be able to help me out! i live in murray hill in city council district 4 and am working to improve the traffic flow around my neighborhood, specifically on first avenue and going westbound on 40th street. I am proposing that tunnel approach street become a two way street to open up traffic and allow for more navigation options for those in cars. As a resident of an apartment building surrounding this street, i am well aware of the constant traffic on second avenue due to the midtown tunnel along with the chaos of traffic restrictions during un week.it can be very difficult to navigate efficiently and i believe that the installation of a two way street could benefit traffic flow, which in turn will decrease noise pollution. A stop sign would also have to be installed on the corner of tunnel approach street and 40th street because of the eastbound traffic, which would have the right of way were the two way street to be implemented.
