Our recaro performance sport car seat's strap (the one to pull the harness tight) gets caught on the left side of the metal mechanism (underneath the strap release button). Our daughter has gotten stuck in the harness while we fumble to remove it as it remains tight. We always try to pull the strap to tighten the harness by pulling is straight out, but sometimes it may get pulled at a slight angle. This allows the strap to get caught in the empty space on the left side of that metal mechanism. We recently moved the car seat to the opposite (right) side of our car and no longer have this problem. There is no slight empty space on the right side of the metal mechanism. So even if we aren't exact in the way we pull the strap, it's ok and continues to function. A car seat should be able to be used on either side of the car. When the strap is stuck, it is a safety hazard in an emergency situation. The child would be difficult to remove from the car seat. Recaro has not replaced anything on this car seat, but this problem has happened since it was new in 2013. Recaro performance sport, serial #500489554 part # 386.01.redd, forward facing, manufactured 07/24/2013.

The contact owns a recaro performance sport (na) infant seat, model number: 500545414 (na). The seat was manufactured on march 4, 2014. The safety seat was being utilized in a 2015 ford escape. The contact stated that the straps buckled to the side, making the seat unstable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to "pull the strap straight" while strapping in the child. The purchase date was unknown.
