The recaro performance infant car seat has a defective base release leaving it inoperable.the release broke on two separate seats and we were unable to remove it from the base.i returned the first seat with the broken release and after the second failed i chose not to get another.also i am very disappointed because i have invested in two extra bases and the denali stroller to go with it to which will be a lot of money lost on my end.it has been over a month since i've reported this to the company with pictures of model/serial numbers and have received no manufacturer reimbursement.

I have a recaro performance seat. I purchased this seat about 4-5 mo. Ago so its fairly new. The issue that im heaving is the adjuster lever( witch is the release located between child's legs) has a notch on the side to support the spring. This notch ( which is by design not a defect) is catching the strap and once the child is secure it is difficult to release. Its equivalent of a wrechering strap folding or twisting over wile tightening. Also once i do manage to get it to realize i did notice that the strap is being flailed by this notch. It doesn't happened all the time witch makes it worse, because sometimes its just the very corner, of the strap, that gets pinched. It really makes u question in an accident im i going to be able to get my kid out? i contacted the manufacture their reply was to pull the strap opposite to the notch. This should solve my problem. I have two kids, two cars and four child safety seats, this is the first time i encountered this type of problem. It is laughable that recaro would treat it this way.(related vehicle information: model year=2014, make=traverse, model=chevy).

Recaro performance ride - vibe333.01.vibeserial number 500492389manufacture date 08/08/2013expires six years after manufacturedthis is a five point harness car seat that starts at 5lbs to approximately for a 10 year old. We thought we would have this car seat for many years using it as directed, rear facing, forward facing with five point harness and eventually a booster seat. We called the recaro company and got no help. Then we emailed recaro only to be told that our three year old is smarter than average and we should train her not to press the release button. This is unexceptable!!what is happening is our three year old is strapped in correctly but at any time she can press the release button which loosens the straps so she can take her arms out of the five point harness while it is still buckled up. If i have to stop suddenly she would be thrown from the seat. We have screwed a piece of metal in there to stop this from happening but this means that we cannot get her out in a hurry. We have another brand of car seat, (britax)and there are no problems with that release button where a three year old can press the button. I really was hoping that recaro would have a fix for the car seat. With no fix i feel that it fails all safety standards.

On september 30, 2015 i received a recaro performance ride car seat that was replacement for one that was defective and previously reported under complaint 10778288. The replacement car seat was received in good order but i noticed something odd about the manufacturer's label. Closer inspection revealed that the manufacturer had double labeled the car seat. The original label showed the car seat was a model 333.01 and manufactured 10/30/2014 with serial number 500614610. There was also a green dot sticker placed on this original label. (this model car seat was recalled!!) the new sticker was very carefully placed immediately over the top of the original sticker and had completely new information on it reflecting that it was manufactured 9/11/2015 was now a model 336.01 and serial number 500712991. I contacted the manufacturer who could not/would not discuss what the green dot meant nor comment on the double labeling of the car seat other than to say, "the replacement car seat you received is not on recall. The first 3 numbers of the model number shipped to you are 336. The 336 model number had the recall defect corrected. Yes, we did rework seats to include the load limiting strap, but the seat shipped to you is fully compliant with all regulations. It would be illegal to ship a recalled seat." this is quite deceptive, concerning, and potentially dangerous that recaro is selling recalled car seats as brand new by simply correcting the defect and then relabeling it as a brand new car seat with a new 'manufacture date' and new model number. Photographs of the seat and labels are available upon request. Filings have also been made with the state department of commerce and consumer affairs. Requests that recaro address the matter with someone above their frontline customer service supervisor (corporate) were denied.

We have had multiple problems with this car seat and base combo. The seat/base combo has been replaced twice by recaro, making this our third one to fail. There are no significant events leading up to the failure other than normal use of getting the seat on and off its base which is secured in the vehicle. All three seats after a few months use fail to release from the base or fail to latch fully onto the base leaving the removable child carrier not fully secured to the car. One base failed at the forward set of latches leaving only the rear set holding the seat in a very loose fit. Our baby is 8 months old so going through 3 seats and bases in that time can't be a normal occurrence, none of the equipment is abused and it only sees about 4 latch/unlatch events in a day. The unlatching mechanism failing and having to send the seat back for another is very is inconvenient but when the base failed to secure the seat with both sets of latching mechanisms then it became a true safety concern for us.(related vehicle information: model year=2015, make=santa fe, model=hyundai)

A brand new recaro performance ride car seat was purchased from an online retailer and received with bare screws protruding from the car seat back frame. Upon closer inspection it was determined that the screws were supposed to hold the seat belt lock-offs (a safety feature), but they were missing on both sides. They were not in the factory sealed box received, and there was no sign of damage or destruction to the car seat or the box. It is believed that the factory failed to install the safety feature and it was not discovered during inspection (if there was one) leaving the screws exposed. Pictures are available upon request to include manufacture unique identification information. ...updated 03/31/17

Recall fix issued by manufacturer does not work.the tether strap that is supposed to go through the "loop" of the strap that was provided is too small and therefore ineffective in resolving the problem of the forward facing back portion coming apart during a crash.

The contact owns a recaro performance ride child safety seat. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14c005000 (child seat); however, the parts for the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. Parts distribution disconnect.

I own a recaro performance sport combination harness booster car seat for my 2 year old son (note: there is not an option from the drop down menu for this type of carseat).he has figured out how to pull the release button on the tightening strap of his car seat, push forward on the 5-point harness, and pull his arms through it which, if there was an accident, he would be propelled through the car.i called the manufacturer about it and they said there is no recall and to just tell my child not to do it. They also said there is a fabric cloth covering the "button" which should deter the child - it doesn't. There is no way this can meet the safety guidelines if a 2 year old can get out of his harness on his own.

The car seat comes with a base so the car seat can be easily detached and carried inside. The car seat in the past couple weeks will not detach from the base. We pulled the entire unit out and was able to get it detached but the problem returned immediately. The car seat is currently stuck in its base. Recaro was contacted about the issue but refused to honor the 1 year warranty.

The contact owns a recaro performance ride 5 rearfacing infant seat. The seat was manufactured on august 8, 2013. The contact stated that the safety seat had an adjuster click that, when pressed, the child was able to release from the safety seat. The three year old child was able to release the adjuster click and exit the seat. The contact had to place a bracket in the adjuster click to prevent the child from releasing it; however, the contact was currently unable to release the child completely out of the seat without wiggling one arm out of the straps at a time due to the adjuster being locked in place. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that due to the child's strength, they were not obligated to provide a repair and the child needed to be informed not to remove themselves from the safety seat. The manufacturer also informed the contact that the safety seat adjuster click was not covered under warranty. The purchase date was unknown.

The buckle came apart. The plastic broke all around and the buckle mechanism was exposed and came apart. I have pictures...updated 03/31/17

The contact owns a recaro performance sport vibe (na) rearfacing infant seat, model number: 386.01.vibe. The seat was manufactured on september 24, 2014. The safety seat was being utilized in a 2013 ford f-150 limited. The contact stated that the latch that adjusted with the height of the child could be easily manipulated by a child. The vehicle was in motion when the failure was experienced. The contact pulled the vehicle over immediately to readjust the harness. The failure was persistent. The contact also stated that the child was able to reach the latch, which was often changed due to the child using his body weight. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The purchase date was unknown.
