I purchased my peg perego infant car seat shortly before having my son in september 2002. The date of the car seat is 10-15-2001. We didn't notice or seem to have this issue with our son, but when we went to leave the hospital with our daughter on may 11, 2005 we were unable to cinch down the harness as tightly as we would have liked. It wouldn't get tight enough to pass the "pinch test." i called a certified child passenger safetly technician instructor to come to my home to inspect what was goign on with the seat. I had removed the cover to wash it and thought maybe i had put the harness back incorrectly. She uses a peg perego infant seat for her demonstrations and said it cinches tightly on the small teddy bear she puts in the car seat. After inspecting the harness she determined that i had correctly hooked up the harness to the car seat. We put my daughter in the car seat and she agreed it was not tight enough for her to be safe in the seat, it also would not cinch down tightly on her teddy bear either. I called peg perego and they overnighted me a new harness. I asked the woman on the phone if she wanted the old harnessto investigate what the problem was with the harness and she told me i could just throw it away because they make them differently now since it has been a few years. She didn't seem too concerned about the possibly hundreds of people still using these seats with straps that don't tighten to the correct tightness to be safe. My daughter weighed 7lb 5oz so it is not like she was a premie. I still have the old harness if it is needed. No one was hurt and the new harness is working just fine, it is about two inches smaller in length than the older one so it is able to tighten down more on my daughter.
