I own two of these graco nautilus car seats. One for my son and one for my daughter. Our sons car seat has gotten stuck 3 times and were unable to unlatch thebuckle. We stuggled with it for several min. And had to push extremely hard to get it unlocked. One time we had to just take oir son into the house still stuck in the seat because we couldn't get it unlatched. It has also happened to our daughters twice!

Graco nautilus car seats have buckles that keep getting stuck. My friend had this problem with her car seat. Now, after using my new car seat for under 3 months, i am unable to unlatch it (latch gets stuck and can not open to get child out). Thankfully, my dad was able to mess with the strap and get my son out of the car seat. But this is a huge safety issue. If the buckle does not work and the vehicle is in an accident where seconds count to get your child out, that child could be badly hurt or killed. I am not having much luck with graco quickly replacing my broken latch. So i need to scramble and borrow a different car seat to protect my child. These buckles should be recalled - and graco should immediately fix the problem, overnighting the part, to prevent injury. Car seats are purchased to protect a child. When they fail to do that, at no fault to the consumer, then the consumer should have the problem immediately fixed. Graco is putting children at risk for severe injury or death!!!! please look into this!

Please read the letter below ....a child's car seat was sold with an expired date of 2014.....there must be a law about this because it involves the safety of children.....the us consumer product safety informed me that child car seats fall under the jurisdiction of the nhtsa.....thank you, [xxx]september 10, 2015 [xxx][xxx] dear [xxx], you advertised a child's car seat on craigslist, i purchased it for forty dollars ($40.00). I picked this up at your home and you put the seat in my car (not attached). Your wife realized that the straps were not with it, then went into your home and got the straps. She also informed me that new car seat laws were going into effect in january 2016. You being young parents are aware of child laws much more then i (being a senior). I thanked her. Fortunately, i called graco (car seat manufacturer) for a manual on this product, graco asked for a serial number, etc, and instructed me as to where to find this on the product, much to my surprise this car seat expired in 2014. Graco informed me of the dangers, to a child's life, an expired car seat can cause. As per a telephone conversation with [xxx], today (september 10, 2015) i informed [xxx], that the child's car seat was expired in 2014. This car seat is not only useless it jeopardizes a child's safety. I informed him that a refund of ($40.00) forty dollars was to be made , [xxx] was rude, arrogant, and vulgar, in response. It is apparent that you were aware of this being expired. If a refund of ($40.00) forty dollars in not received within 10 days, (mail to address above) this matter will go into litigation. Regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My child was restrained in graco nautilus with harness and the buckle jammed and harness could not be released.my son had to be cut from the harness.i reported to graco which stated that would send me another harness system.i have heard several complaints form other parents for the same problem.i am a certified child passenger safety technician and have a fitting station open to the public.

I had placed my son in his car seat. I strapped him in. I turned my car on. I went to clean off of my car. My son leaned forward to talk to me. The straps were not tightened at the time. The front chest clip broke. It snapped and the plastic piece went flying. He was then able to fall out of the car seat. I contacted graco and demanded a refund.

I am having a serious safety issue with this car-seat. My son whom is 16 months is continuously disconnecting the plastic piece that secures across his chest keeping him in his seat. This problem almost got me a ticket! i have 2 of these and my son is able to do this with the other as well. This latch should not be that easy to disconnect.

I own the graco nautilus model number: 1766778 style number: 114496i have only been using the car seat for the past two weeks and went to get my daughter out of the car seat today and was unable to get the crotch buckle undone. I panicked and my husband helped me luckily wiggle her out. I feel this is a major safety issue that needs to be recalled. I can't imagine what i would have done if my husband wasn't there. From what i have seen in other reports this is a recurring issue.

I became aware of your investigation regarding the grace car seats.approximately 1 year ago we returned a graco nautilus car seat to babies r us because we were having difficulty unlatching the buckle.we had to loosen the straps and have my daughter crawl out of it.we replaced the seat with another nautilus seat. We currently use two nautilus seats and one my ride seats.at times, one of our current nautilus buckles can be difficult for my 5 year old daughter to unbuckle but my husband and i have always been able to unlatch it.i'm not sure if this information helps but i thought i should at least share. Since the seat was returned to the store i do not have access to the exact model number or manufacture date.

Seat belt buckle on child's car seat will not unlatch in order to remove child from seat. Unable to force buckle open. Had to pull child through car seat harness to free. Strangely enough, at other times, the belt buckle would release going down the road. The shoulder harness would still be latched. This began happening within 2 years of purchasing the car seat. Began happening with each time used. Did not repair or replace defective part. Used another car seat.

Graco nautilus car seat would not unlatch to remove child.model #181106date of manufacture 10/12/2012.

I own a graco nautilus and it was fine for awhile, and then when you unbuckle the child the left side of the buckle tong gets stuck in the buckle. It will not release.it happens every time you unbuckle the child. It got so bad it took 2 full minutes to release the left side after being stuck. I called graco and they sent me out a brand new harness system and buckle.it was fine for the first couple days then it started sticking on the left side like the previous harness/buckle had done.i do not feel that it is safe for my child to be stuck in their carseat at all.

Was installing seat in vehiclewhenelbow hit head rest . Headrest then broke free fromseat-back on right hand side of seat along with its receiver. I noticed that the receive is held in place by the built in harnesses upper roller bar. The receiver was being held in place by less then 1mm of the bar. I have not been able to contact graco for repairs.

I have a graco nautilus1769849 manufacture date 2011/06/15. The crotch clip has gotten stuck 4 times since christmas. We have had the seat for two years now and only recently have had this problem. The first time we were able to get the harness undone after much struggle, the most recent three times we have had to pull my daughter out through the top of the harness after loosening the straps as much as possible. We are using a backup seat from a friend for the time being until graco can give an official reason and answer. For now they suggested we buy a new seat, which is not going to happen since it's their defect that is failing. They are still out of stock on a replacement harness set.

The contact owns a graco nautilus car seat model (1890397), manufactured march 4, 2013. The contact stated that the side buckle on the car seat would not unlatch and they had to cut the strap to get the child out of the seat. The manufacturer was not contacted. The seat was not replaced.

1. The 5 point harness began to stick a bit a few weeks back making it difficut to open to get my child out of the seat. Also, it would sometimes pop open while i was driving.2. Today, my husband had to cut my 2 1/2 year old out of his car seat because he was trapped in the harness that would not open.3. We contacted graco and requested a refund.

Graco nautilus buckle gets stuck all the time.today i could not get my daughter out of the car for 20 minutes. Finally able to unbuckle after hurting my thumb and fingers from pressing so hard for 20 min. I.just thank god i wasn't in an accident where seconds mattered. Scary a child could be killed if car caught on fire or something terrible like that.

The buckle on the child safety seat failed to release one of the two metals tabs upon button press. The tab was able to be forced out by applying sideways pressure while re-latching and then pressing the button again. This has occurred approximately five times over the course of 18 months.

Graco nautilus 3 in 1 car seat.since i purchased the seat in late 2009 - early 2010, it has been difficult to unlatch; we put it in my husband's car, because he had an easier time unlatching it.now, the one in my car (same seat) has become difficult to unlatch as well, and the one in my husband's car is virtually impossible for me to unlatch.this is a serious safety hazard for a seat that was bought to hold a child for years with the 5 point harness (which is why i bought the seat).i fear that if we are in an accident, i will be unable to get my child out of his carseat.(related vehicle information: model year=2009, make=nautilus, model=8j00rse).

Harness buckles is hard to unlatch http://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/02/11/graco-recalling-nearly-3-8m-child-car-seats/.

The graco nautilus car seat doesn't unlatch properly from the harness buckle. The one in my husband's car you have to push extremely hard and tug on the harness several times to release from the harness buckle. The same make/model in my car, the left clip in the harness buckle will not release at all. I had to have my child crawl out of the straps to get out of his car seat. If we were in an accident and/or the car caught fire, i would need scissors to pry my child's restraints off of him. If i did not have scissors, it makes me sick to think what could have happened in this situation. There is a great chance my child would not have made it out of the vehicle alive. I am furious that the car seat isn't even 3 years old and should have lasted the duration of him needed the booster, but now it is useless as a child restraint and i had to buy a new one. What a waste of money!!

My child's graco nautilus 3 in 1 car seat has a main buckle that has jammed stuck twice.we had to remove the child by lengthening the straps as much as possible and pull the child up through, awkwardly and uncomfortably.if this were an emergency my child would not have had a swift exit of the vehicle.graco is sending the new buckle harness system out to replace the dysfunctional one.

We bought the graco nautilus car seat from babies r us about a month ago and over the past week the crotch buckle will stick. There are no dirt or debris in the buckle. One side unbuckles sometimes, but the other side won't and i have rebuckle the one side and push down really hard and then maybe it will unlatch when i push on the lever.

Consumer writes in regards to unable to obtain replacement buckle for child seat buckle recall notice.

Crotch buckles on graco nautilus car seat have plastic housing that is cracking.graco informed me that i could buy a replacement harness set for $10.this is unacceptable to me as it is obviously a defect in the material they are using.i know of others with the same problem.

Buckle won't unlatch.child was stuck in the seat in below zero weather.

The graco nautilus after extensive research was my pick, until i brought it home and the crotch strap is severely flawed. On pg 27 of the manual in #4 it states to check the crotch strap: choose the position that is closest to but not under your child.there is no way to adjust this strap for my 36lb 3 year old boy to not be sitting on the crotch strap.this could cause damage to his genitals in the event of an accident. Their is no way i could not use the 5 pt harness system since he would never stay in his seat. I am so distraught, since i really had my mind made up on the nautilus. The seat is sold to be used with 5 pt harness up to 65lbs and 52 inches, this is obviously not possible.i am returning the seat.

I have followed the required steps to receive a new belt replacement for the nautilus 3 in 1 car seat. That was already 5 weeks ago. My granddaughter was stuck in the car seat in the middle of a big snow storm. I have contacted through email and personally on the phone at least 5 times in the past 2 weeks. There needs to be some type of express replacement policy in place for seats that have held children captive. I have been promised an expedited belt 3 times and have not yet received the promised so called "call back" before the end of the business day. What good is a car seat without a belt. I have tried twice to clean the belt following given directions, but it still sticks. I would like the company to replace the whole seat. I do not recommend this company to anyone. I am sure that i am not the only one who is frustrated in this replacement policy. Should i purchase another seat in the mean time to transport my child while i wait the 6-8 weeks to receive the new one?

Cpsc#i12a0452a. Graco nautilus. Consumer stated that she has been having difficulties with both of her car seats. Stating the release button didn't work on multiple occasions. *ln

I own 2 graco nautius carseats in the matrix color. My 2 year old daughter, who has never unlatched her britax carseat or any of our strollers, undoes the chest clip in her nautilus carseat. We can no longer use the car seat and upon testing other clips i have discovered that the graco clip is much easier than other brands to open. In talking to a friend, her daughter opened the chest clip in the graco nautilus in her parent's car. I am concerned that this is a serious problem with more children than my daughter.

I bought the seat and the first time i used it the buckle (croth strap) gets stuck. It happenes every time i use it and i have to play with it to come undone. I am calling to get a new crotch strap/buckle.

Could not get the buckle to release.almost had to cut the belt to get child out of seat.major safety hazard if in accident and had to get child out of car seat in a hurry.

I took my sons graco nautilus out of the car to clean it and noticed the headrest was wobbly. After removing the head rest i found a plastic hook inside the headreast support had broken off inside the carseat. I had not been in an accident of any kind nor had the carseat been dropped. After contacting graco and being told a replacement part would take several weeks to arrive i instead exchanged the faulty seat at the store where it was purchased (walmart, bemidji, mn).

I am writing in regarding to the graco nautilus car seat.i own 4, all with different dates of manufacturers.i purchased 2 seats and then an announcement was made at lifesavers 2008 stating that the seats could be latched in hbb mode.i e-mailed graco on may 28, 2008 to confirm that this information was true and received written confirmation that all graco nautilus seats could be latched and that the change would be updated in the manual.because of this, i purchased 2 additional graco nautilus' for our second car.at lifesavers 2009, a graco rep made the statement that the nautilus could no longer be latched in hbb mode.to my knowledge, no explanation was given.the public was never informed of this change and graco cannot provide an answer.i have multiple e-mails from graco and they claim that my question of whether or not my seats can be latched in hbb mode is "out of their scope" and they cannot provide an answer.this is highly confusing and potentially dangerous.they offered to refund me the cost of my seats rather than provide an answer.when i expressed concern about my confidence in a company that does not know how it's car seat should be used, i was directed to contact the legal department.many people i know own this seat.we are being told conflicting information. Each rep has a different answer. There are three different manuals stating different information regarding this issue, yet it has been said that there have been no design changes to the seat.i only want to know the correct way to use my car seat.how can graco get away with this?they claim they do not know the answer and have exhausted all resources trying to provide me with one.they will not even confirm whether or not i should use the seats according to the manual.with 4 seats and 4 manuals, i do not even know which seat belongs to each manual and i have 2 manuals that do not address the issue at all and 2 manuals that say the seat can be latched in hbb mode. Help!

The crotch buckle on my car seat failed to release. This is the second failure we have experienced.

The belt lock on the graco nautralius is extremely hard to push in. Almost undoable.

On several occasions, i had difficulty with the strap buckle, taking sometimes two or three minutes to get it to release the harness.on february 19, 2013, my mother-in-law tried for ten minutes to get the buckle to release.with no success, she finally had to cut my son out of the harness.it is still stuck.

The contact owns a graco safety seat, model name: nautilus, model number: 1863999, and manufactured in may 28, 2013. The contact stated that the buckle was unable to unlatch. The contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14c001000 (child seat), however the part was not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.

Our graco nautilus 3-in-1 carseat harness buckle is nearly impossible to unlatch. The problem was at first intermittent, but now occurs almost every time we use the carseat.the graco website lists the part as out of stock. The button needs excessive force to depress--we have once had to pull our child out of the harness with the buckle still latched.we bought three of these carseats at the same time (we have triplets), one of which has the newer style buckle--which is infinitely easier to operate than the old style buckle.

Cpsc#i1230642a. Graco nautilus car seat. Consumer stated she was loading a child into the car, and went to loosen the straps to load the child in and it came off of the buckle/hook in the back. *ln

The release button on my sons car seat would not release after repeatedly being pushed for over half an hour before it finally relased and i was able to remove my son from being trapped in his car seat.i am concerned that if we had been in an accident that i would not have been able to get my son out in a timely manner.i do not think this carseat is safe to use because of this faulty release.

The contact owns a graco nautilus safety seat, model number 1878678jj, and manufactured july 15, 2014. The child seat was being utilized in a 2000 chrysler town and country by the latch system.the contact stated that while the seat was secured in the vehicle, the seat began to move liberally and caused the latches to become loose without much effort. The contact was concerned with how easily the latches became unsecured. The manufacturer was not contacted. (related vehicle information: model year=2000, make=chrysler, model=town and country)

The buckle strapping child into graco nautilus becomes stuck numerous times, taking five to ten minutes to dislodge.finally having a volunteer firefighter having to come to our aid and cut my child free.

We own a graco nautilus child car seat, model 8j00brv. The harness buckle will not release approximately 50% of the time, necessitating loosening the restraint harness to its fullest extent, removing our child?s left shoe, and pulling her up and out of the harness. This problem began about a year ago and has gradually gotten worse in that it happens more often and is more difficult to unlatch. The buckle has not been damaged nor does there appear to be any foreign objects in the buckle interfering with the locking mechanism.graco's website indicates replacement buckles for this model are out of stock. While conducting an internet search for a replacement buckle, it's apparent this problem is quite common on the graco nautilus.

My toddler travels with me up to 4 round trips a day. In the last two months, her carseat has been getting harder and harder to unclick. You have to push very hard to get the red button to click open. Sometimes one side would click open, then the next time both sides would stick. Today, we were on an outing (for mother's day), and we spent over 45 mins. Trying to unbuckle her from the seat. I tried very hard as well as a large gentleman nearby in the parking lot who happened to notice me in distress. My toddler became increasingly upset as it was getting scary for her.the man was also shocked to see that he wasn't getting it unbuckled with strong force. We debated cutting it apart; we also debated calling 911 to have the fire department unleash it.i ruled both out because we wanted to give it a few more minutes.so to get her out, we loosened up the straps as much as we could and squeezed her from the seat.we spent another ten minutes or so continually trying to unclick the belt.it's shocking to me - although this has happened before.it has never taken more than 3-5 minutes to unclick the harness.i've got no choice but to keep using the seat until we can get resolution from graco.i do plan on contacting them first thing in the morning (monday morning 5/13/2013) with the hope that they will allow me to receive another model of carseat - and return this one to them.i have not kept the receipt from the original purchase from target, so i'm certain they cannot exchange it.but in researching recalls about this model of carseat, i'm shocked once more that this has not been addressed. Please issue a recall immediately. It's extremely unnerving to have this happen to your child.and even more, the worst case scenarios are already playing in my mind: what if we had a car fire or a car accident? if the buckle is a defect, what else is defective about this carseat? i'd like not to find out the hard way.please contact me for follow-up. Thank you

Buckle in graco car seat sticks, poses a danger for child stuck in car seat in emergency situation. Child had to be cut out by firemen in order to get child out of car seat.

I had ordered a replacement buckle for my graco carseat while waiting for it to be replacedthey said it was still safe to use. I was at the store with my 2.5 year old son and myself, my mother and a male stranger could not undo this buckle all while my son was yelling i want out i want out! after 15 minutes i ended up cutting my son out of the carseat. I called the company and since they closed early i had to call the next morning. After being told i have to wait for a shipping label and somehow find a box or buy a new carseat and use that box to ship the car seat to them. Which i told them i cannot afford to buy a new one she said just put it on a credit card, well i don't have a credit card so i cannot do that. I have to go i don't know how long without a carseat for my 2 year old. They claim it is because food and drinks get in there but the carseat is clean around the buckle and we have 3 other kids that have eaten and drank in car seats with no problems all in different car seat makers.

We own a graco booster seat (2010 nautilus) for our 5 year old daughter. This morning, while in the process of tugging on the crotch strap to snug down the shoulder harness, the shoulderharness disengaged and pulled through the slot adjacent to our child's shoulder. This also happened on another prior occasion.each of the shoulder straps threads through slots in the front of the seat. The straps slide over red rollers in the back of the seat. Each strap contains a loop that is placed over a metal clip that contains two curved finger like projections designed to hold the loops snugly. The metal clip is also permanently secured to the crotch strap.the two incidents are disturbing because the faulty design is in the rear of the seat and cannot be observed until the seat is removed. I would have no way to know if the fabric loop is in theprocess of slipping off of the metal clip until it completely slips off as it did this morning.i view this as a serious design flaw. My child could have been seriously injured if i were in a car accident as the loose shoulder stap would not have restrained her.i reported the matter to graco and they are forwarding a shipping form and box for me to return the seat to them. I will do that when i receive these items unless i hear otherwise fromyou. I hope that you will look into this and work with manufacturers on improving the safety of this design.thank you for your time and consideration.

The buckle on the car seat does not secure ("click closed") without twisting the two metal prongs.there are two metal connectors that are secured to the fabric belt.the metal connectors slide into the plastic unit and are supposed to lock.both of the metal connectors do not "click" to indicate that the belt is secured unless the metal prongs are twisted around-a significant amount of force is required to do this.my wife finds it difficult and i can understand why, as i am relatively strong and it takes significant effort on my part to get it to lock.i have verified that the connection is not secure without the ?click? as the metal connectors will pull out when the "click" is not felt or heard.in our case there was not an injury resulting from this, although we have not been involved in a motor vehicle accident since we purchased the car seat on 11/27/2011.but, there have been instances where i thought it was buckled securely but when i checked the buckle it came out.i believe that we may have driven in the past believing the buckle was secure, but discovered it was not secure when removing our son from the seat.it caught me by surprise and i remember thinking that it was easy to not notice the "click".i believe that is likely that there are others who have this problem with the seat but who are not aware of the problem.it is easy to believe that it is locked since it is pushed in all of the way (easy to not notice the absence of the "click").i am not completely satisfied that it is a truly safe buckling mechanism even then it ?clicks? (e.g. I believe that it is possible that the buckle may not remain locked in the event of an accident even when the ?click? is felt and/or heard when fastening the child into the seat).besides the obvious safety issue, it has caused our son discomfort with the twisting required to cause the mechanism to lock, since the buckle is so close to his genitals.this problem requires investigation.thank you.

I am helping a grandparent to fit a new seat for his grandson who has outgrown his other car seat.the seat fits okay, except for the crotch strap is too short.his grandson is large for his age.the grandfather tried to move the crotch strap from the inner slot to the outer slot and had many problems in trying to get it thru the new slot. The webbing kept binding up on the metal ring onto which it was sewn, making it extremely hard to fit the strap webbing through the new slot.he told me that he had to use ascrew driver and hammer to get the strap back into the new slot location.i tried to do it, and it worked okay at first, but when i tried to show him how i did it, it did not go back into the slot very easily at all.at this time, he is using this seat, but is looking for another seat that has more space in the seat area (ie. Longer crotch strap, with more slots to use as he grows.) also, an easier way to change the crotch straps, when it becomes necessary. )information on the seat in question:graco nautilus, model # 8j00brv, serial # jj200802200321072, manuf. Date: 20080220.it is a 3-in-1 seat.the child is a male, 3 years/ 3 months old, weighs 43 lbs, and is 45" tall.the seat is being used with the harness.the seat is okay, except for the too short crotch strap, and the seat slots being too narrow to rethread the crotch strap back into.

I have the graco nautilus an all my warning stickers have came off the model number is 8j00brv and the manufactured date is 20080505 i still have to send it back .

Buckled my three year old into their graco nautilus car seat. When we reached our destination it was extremely difficult to unbuckle and get her out. I was beginning to panic and considering cutting her straps off, the buckle was that difficult to remove. This happened one more time before i stopped using the carseat. I called graco to complain and they told me i could buy a new one. I did some research online and several other similar complaints. I do not want to buy a new buckle that will eventually do the same thing. I want graco to recall the item and fix it!!! in the meantime my family is down to one carseat which is a huge inconvenience.

My child rides in a graco nautilus car seat.over the past two years i have had extreme difficulty detaching the safety harness from the connectors.several times it has taken 10-15 minutes of constant maneuvering and extreme strength on the release button in order to get my child out of the car seat. It has now come to the point where i had to release the straps as far i could so she could squeeze out of the car seat because the release button would not release the straps for proper removal.it occurs several times a week and takes several minutes to get the car seat to release in order to get my child out.nothing has been done to correct the problem.

The left buckle tongue on our graco nautilus (model #8j00glx) sticks in the crotch buckle nearly every single time we use the seat.it is extremely difficult to unbuckle.it takes several minutes to get my child unbuckled from this seat.this is a safety hazard, especially in the event of an emergency.the buckle tongues are clean, so debris is not the issue.it feels like the metal of the buckle tongue is catching inside the buckle.the fact that the buckle tongue catches in the crotch buckle also makes me worry that the buckle may not be secure in a crash.

Stuck crotch buckle, nothing led up to it. We purchased the seat in november 2012 and have no issues until yesterday. Could not undo the crotch buckle with any amount of force. Had to release the harness fully to squeeze the child out.

The crotch buckle has always been difficult to release.this past week it would not release so my son was stuck in the car seat.we had to use pliers to force the latch to release.updated 01/07/14*ljthe manufacturer sent the consumer another buckle.updated 01/08/14

There wasn't an incident, and there hasn't been a failure. The crotch buckles on our graco nautilus are cracked on both sides. I called graco, and they have offered to replace the entire harness assembly for free. I only noticed a few days ago, so i on't know exactly when it happened.

Purchased graco nautilus car seat in january 2013.buckle was difficult from day one.on 5/26/2013 my child was trapped in his seat for 10 minutes crying because my husband and i could not undo the buckle. If we pushed hard the button would depress but would not release the harness insert.eventually we did get it to release.i googled 'nautilus buckle'and found hundreds of complaints dating back to 2009 with similar problems. Some just stuck-mine actually broke-you could feel something inside was wrong.i contacted graco and informed them of my discontent that they have not resolved the problem and have been jeopardizing children's lives for 3years.if this happened during an emergency, the consequences could have been tragic.graco is refunding my money.

Product - graco nautilus bought new 2-3 months ago.problem- buckle stuck closed. Incident happened without any warning/problem/or accident. "newell rubbermaid" replied to an email i wrote to graco saying they will give me a refund after i send them the seat. When i asked about replacement parts instead, they said it is on at least a 3 week back order. They said the buckle is broken. I am sending the seat back to graco. I have seen several other complaints about this online.

The contact owns a graco nautilus three-in-one convertible child seat, manufacturer's date unknown.the contact stated that the child could unlatch the harness with ease. The manufacturer was contacted and they provided the contact with a replacement harness buckle however, the child was also able to unlatch the replacement. The seat was not replaced.

The crotch buckle on the carseat jams. You can push the red release button and the buckle will not open...other times you can push the release button and one side will release, but not the other. When this happens, you have to re-buckle the side that has released (if one has), then push both sides into the buckle very firmly, then attempt to open the buckle again. I've had to try up to three times before the buckle will release. This happens every 3-4 uses and is happening more frequently as time goes on. Graco was contacted and a whole new harness system, including a new crotch buckle, is being sent free of charge. I was instructed to dispose of the faulty buckle.

The crotch latching system repeatedly sticks. Today while trying to get my child out i was unable to free the latch and she was stuck in the chair for some time before i could find someone to help me. This is a huge safety issue.

We own two graco nautilus car seats that we use for my current 2.5 year old daughter. The one that we've had the longest has sever issues with the crotch strap buckle.it has actually been replaced once by graco (they sent a new crotch piece).the reason it was replaced was due to it sticking (on the release part) extremely bad.we'd often thought something had been spilled, etc.we'd take hot water and clean it out with a q-tip and even alcohol. After we received the replacement piece it was better for awhile, but within a few months became worse again. The problem is that the crotch buckle sticks soooo bad that it cant be released hardly at all.my husband is a pretty muscular person and often has a difficult time at times as well.i've had to remove the car seat from the latch buckle (child and all) to release it and i've had to even leave her in the seat until i could get help as well. I have several times thought about cutting the belt as well.this was the same problem with both the original belt and the replacement.we have the same issue (just not as severe) with our second nautilus.i have extreme fear of being in an accident and not being able to free my child if need be. So much of a fear thati have begun carrying a pair of scissors. There is no obstruction what so ever in the buckle and it's not sticky...it just won't release with ease (for an adult).we've had to place the seat in other vehicles when other individuals are transporting her as well and those individuals can't release the belt either. Those folks range from small petite women, grandparents and muscular men. We haven't requested another replacement yet, but feel as if we should. I saw the news piece on my local news channel and felt as if we should voice our concerns as well. There is something extremely wrong with this mechanism and i do believe there is a malfunction of some sort. It's a high safety concern.

I bought the graco nautilus 3-in-1 car seat in january. I noticed that the buckle was a little tough to open right from the start, but i would rather it be a little too snug, than too loose. One morning in february my husband could not get our 3 year old son out of the seat. He is a strong guy, a 220+ pound us navy sailor, and he couldn't get it to budge. After about 5 minutes, it opened. Then last week i was trying to get our son out and he was trapped. For over 20 minutes. I tried everything, injuring my fingers and thumbs in the process but the harness buckle would not open. I tried to get him out by loosening the straps all the way, but i couldn't because he is too big to pull out. He was stuck. If it had been an emergency, i don't want to even think about what could have happened. Finally, it opened, like there was no problem at all. The buckle is defective. I notified graco and they replied with a blog they wrote titled "harness buckle tips". I should not have to read tips about how to open a car seat buckle. "press red button and remove child" should be the only instructions! luckily since my son's seat is still new, i was able to return it to the store and i replaced it with a britax. I really hope that something is done about this defective car seat buckle. I do not want the reason for the recall have to be at the expense of a child's life. There are hundreds of complains about this buckle on amazon car seat reviews. That should be enough for graco to change the buckle.

Last year, i contacted graco because my son's nautilus was becoming increasingly difficult to unbuckle.this was with the "old style" crotch buckle. I was sent a new harness assembly with their "new style" buckle.unfortunately, this too has begun to stick and not come unbuckled without repeated attempts and excessive force. I have heard from friends that their buckle stuck so badly that they had to cut their child out of the harness, so i am concerned that this may eventually happen with ours. I was told by a cpst to report the difficult buckles to your organization so that you will be aware of this ongoing issue.

I strapped my son into his graco car seat, which i have never had a problem with before. It was just a small trip and on the way there his seat worked properly. Upon returning home, i could not get him out of the seat! the button would not depress. I had to cut him out by cutting the bottom straps with scissors. He was hysterical crying, it was 15 degrees out and he was very scared.

The crotch buckle is so hard to unbuckle! i have two of these seats and they are both the same!! i seriously hurt my thumb trying to push the button to release the buckle... I thought it was just me until i did some research! this is ridiculous! i praise these seats to everyone, my only complaint is that it is so very hard to release the buckle... Is it something that can be replaced? i have at least 2 more years of this!!

Graco nautilus model #: 1766778dom: 12/15/2011restraint crotch buckle is too difficult for an adult to release and jams continuously. 4 yr child had to be cut out of the harness system because crotch buckle would not release.

My 3-year old son got his forearm caught in a graco nautilus car seat as he was exiting it. His arm became lodged in the side compartment. He became hysterical and it was extremely difficult to get his arm back out of the compartment.i had to remove the seat from the car and summon a second individual to hold the seat in the air so i could slowly move his arm back and forth before sliding it out. We easily could have broken his arm during the removal process.(aside - often times you hear about accidents and wonder "how could that ever happen?" - this is one of those moments for me. I felt completely helpless 'rescuing' my son from this situation. Thankfully it ended with no injury. I wanted to report it as a safety concern for others.)*dt

My daughters graco nautilus buckle is impossible to unlatch easily most times. There are times it takes five minutes are are seconds away from having to cut straps to get here out. This is a huge safety issue. The results of a car accident could be fatal ifi could not get her out quickly enough.

I recently purchased two graco nautilus carseats for my children . They've always been really hard to buckle and unbuckle but the last time i went to take my son out of his seat the crotch buckle would not come undone . I had four people try and get it to come apart and it wouldn't budge so i had to loosen the straps all the way and maneuver my child out of the seat . Graco is sending me out new hardware .

Graco nautilus buckle gets stuck. I can't get my child out of the carseat. Especially in an emergency, it may be a matter of life and death.

We bought the nautilus 3-in-1 car seat for our son last year and he has just turned 2yr old. We have a big problem with the car seat because our son can undo the release button while he is in the seat and unbuckle his self while we are driving. The release button in the front is way too easy for him to loosen and then get out of the seat. We are very concerned with this because his safety is at risk.my husband had to buy a bungee cord and insert it through the bottom loop of the strap and after we tighten him into the seat we have to attach the bungee cord to the bottom of the vehicle seat. We would like a solution to this problem and we do not fill that the bungee cord is a permit fix because it is very hard to get on and off and in an emergency situation would be very hazards for our son. Please contact me as soon as possible so that we can resolve this issue. If you need pictures and/or video of the car seat and my son getting out of it i will be more than happy to supply them to you. Thank you for your time and i look forward in hearing back form you soon.

I had a graco nautilus from 2009 and graco refunded me my money due to the side arm rest coming off in tiny pieces. I replaced it with the grace nautilus model number 1813106 in september 2012. Now this one is having problems, when i try to un buckle the bottom part i have to push extremely hard and it is getting worse. My husband even struggles with it, he actually couldn't un buckle it today by himself.this is extremely dangerous and i do not feel safe putting my 3 year old daughter in her carseat. This problem started about a week ago and has only gotten harder to un buckle.

We just received a recall notice for our graco nautilus car seat buckle.graco is stating a 6-8 week lead time to receive the new buckle, which is outrageously long.typical order and ship times nowadays are measured in days, not weeks.this is absolutely too long to wait for a safety recall in which my child could be trapped in a serious situation.graco should shorten the delivery time to less than 1 week upon receiving a request.

The crotch buckle on my son's car seat is continually getting worse. It first started unbuckling itself. After a day of that, it began to get stuck. It is gradually taking longer to get him out of the seat. It has taken me over 4 minutes to get him unbuckled. As you can imagine, in the instance of an accident, seconds are crucial, and i am talking minutes! that is a huge problem. Many people have had the same issue. When i contacted graco, they jacked around until it would be impossible for me to get the part before i had to leave for work. They told me it would take 7 to 10 days to receive the part. How is it legal for them to be so slow?! i called back and the lady said it would be here in 2 to 3 days. Had they done it right the first time, i would have already had the part. Then if they would have done it right the second time, it would have been here in 1 to 2 days. I could understand if it were a part for a toy or something, but i am talking about a child restraint!! restraints are supposed to be lifesaving, not life threatening! my son has drank water in his car seat. Water does not make for sticky buckles. I have checked and checked the buckle and prongs, there is no food or sticky residue inside. It is to the point that i can not put my son in his seat because i do not know how long it will take to get him out of it.

1. Unbuckling son from restraint, the crotch buckle gets stuck2. Mostly everytime he gets out of this seat3. Nothing yet.

Middle button on harness buckles in lap does not always unlatch.becoming increasingly difficult to unlatch to remove my toddler, have to jerk it around while depressing button and pushing on it over and over.

Graco nautilus 1769849 manufactured 2010 - safety latch and harness problems.the safety latch becomes stuck and difficult to remove the child from the seat.the upper chest safety clip is easily opened by a 2-3 year old child allowing the child to move about during travel and increases the risk of injury to the child.i have been in contact with a lawyer conducting investigations for a lawsuit.i have had many instances of difficulty removing my child from the car seat at our destinations.i have cleaned the safety clip twice and washed the entire system twice since purchasing it later in 2010.the seat works well other than the clips being difficult.overall it has worked and continues to work.but we are not happy with the chest clip being dangerous.the chest clip is easily slid down and then removed by the child.we have not been in an accident.

We purchased graco nautilus model # 1766778 in nov 2012. By jan 2013 my child was stuck in seat. Crotch button would not release. I notified graco, was told they would send replacement part, but was on back order until mid to end feb. I waited a few days called back, got another representative and she said, "we have in stock will over night whole new harness". Well that was monday jan 28th. This is feb 1st and i still dont have.

The buckle on the graco nautilus keeps sticking to the point that we have to push in the unlock with a key or something else because it will not unlatch by using your finger.it has done this over 5 times and i am scared that if we are in a crash that i won't be able to get my child out of her seat.

I have a graco nautilus that was purchased for my one year old. I will be returning the product to walmart as my son has now been trapped in the seat twice. The buckle would not come unlatched and both times took extreme force/three people/and 20 minutes to be able to unlatch to get my son out of the seat. If i was in a wreck or my car caught fire this would not be a delicate situation to handle. I have read many complaints against graco about latches being stuck and think this is a very important concern that should be addressed before a child is killed by being stuck in the seat in an emergent situation. Model number is 1832565.

The crotch latching system repeatedly sticks. Today while trying to get my child out i was unable to free the latch and she was stuck in the chair for some time before i could find someone to help me. This is a huge safety issue.

Buckle in graco car seat sticks, poses a danger for child stuck in car seat in emergency situation. Child had to be cut out by firemen in order to get child out of car seat.

The buckle strapping child into graco nautilus becomes stuck numerous times, taking five to ten minutes to dislodge.finally having a volunteer firefighter having to come to our aid and cut my child free.

Buckle on safety harness for graco nautilus 3 in 1 gavit, model# 1759245, manufacture date 11/2011. We had to cut the straps on the harness to free our child from the seat due to the buckle failing to release. Fortunately our child is large enough to not require the harness however, he is not old enough by state standards to not wear the harness.

Graco nautilus car seat would not unlatch to remove child.model #181106date of manufacture 10/12/2012.

Graco nautilus model #: 1766778dom: 12/15/2011restraint crotch buckle is too difficult for an adult to release and jams continuously. 4 yr child had to be cut out of the harness system because crotch buckle would not release.

The buckle on the child safety seat failed to release one of the two metals tabs upon button press. The tab was able to be forced out by applying sideways pressure while re-latching and then pressing the button again. This has occurred approximately five times over the course of 18 months.

I reviewed the instructions for replacing the defective buckle on the graco nautilus 8j00brv. You have got to be kidding! this is a recipe for failure which will result in a lot of disfunctional restraints. There is no question the buckle was defective from the day it was purchased and must be replaced, yet what graco is proposing is similar to sending people new air bags, asking them to install them, and then expecting them to work. Lots of luck!

The crotch buckle has always been difficult to release.this past week it would not release so my son was stuck in the car seat.we had to use pliers to force the latch to release.updated 01/07/14*ljthe manufacturer sent the consumer another buckle.updated 01/08/14

The contact owns a graco nautilus convertible child seat, manufactured october 20, 2012.the contact stated that the harness buckle would not release the harness strap from around the child. As a result, the child became locked in the child seat for approximately thirty minutes before the harness buckle would release. The manufacturer was not contacted to report the failure.

The contact owns a graco nautilus child seat which was manufactured on november 8, 2012. The contact stated the harness buckle was very hard to attach; however, after it was attached it became difficult to release. As a result the child became locked in the safety seat. The manufacturer was notified and stated they will mail the contact a new seat.

The belt lock on the graco nautralius is extremely hard to push in. Almost undoable.

Cpsc# i12a0075a. Graco nautilus. Consumer stated that they were having problems with the locking buckle. Only one side would lock. *lnthe consumer stated the buckle stopped working not long after the car seat was purchased.

Cpsc: i1320521a. Graco nautilus. Consumer stated harness buckle on the car seat malfunctioned. *lnthe consumer stated she had difficulty getting the buckle to latch properly, since the car seat was purchased.she also had a difficult time getting it to release. After three months of owning the car seat, she was unable to get her child out of the seat, because the harness buckle had jammed. She finally had to channel the locks to squeeze with enough pressure to release the buckle and get her out. The consumer went online to order another buckle, only to discover, they were out of stock.

The contact owns a graco nautilus forward facing child restraint, model number 8j00glx, serial number jj2009050401914, manufacturer may 4, 2009. The contact stated that the bottom of the harness buckle was cracked. The manufacturer was contacted and stated they will send her a new harness replacement within seven to ten days.

Could not release buckle to seat belt on car seat, spent approximately 10 minutes trying to get my child out.called husband to come by his work to see if he could help before i cut the straps.this has occurred 3 times but the longest time was 10 minutes.switched car seats.(related vehicle information: model year=2001, make=mercedes , model=ml 350).

Harness buckles is hard to unlatch http://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/02/11/graco-recalling-nearly-3-8m-child-car-seats/.

The contact owns a graco nautilus safety child seat, model number:1829466, and manufactured may 10, 2013. The contact stated that he attempted to remove the child from the seat but the buckle failed to release the harness straps. The seat was replaced but the failure recurred with the second seat. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure and stated that they would send a replacement buckle and latch system to the contact.

The contact owns a graco child seat model (8j00brv), manufactured 07/20/2012. The contact stated that while the child was restrained in the child seat, she attempted to release the harness buckle but it would not release. The contact was able to release the buckle approximately twenty minutes later. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The child restraint was no longer in use.

I bought the seat and the first time i used it the buckle (croth strap) gets stuck. It happenes every time i use it and i have to play with it to come undone. I am calling to get a new crotch strap/buckle.

Middle button on harness buckles in lap does not always unlatch.becoming increasingly difficult to unlatch to remove my toddler, have to jerk it around while depressing button and pushing on it over and over.

Could not get the buckle to release.almost had to cut the belt to get child out of seat.major safety hazard if in accident and had to get child out of car seat in a hurry.

The crotch buckle on my car seat failed to release. This is the second failure we have experienced.

Cpsc:i1370467a. Two graco nautilus car seats. Consumer stated her two year old twins, were able to un-buckle the chest harness buckle with ease. *lnthe only thing that was keeping them in their seats, was the bottombuckle.

The contact owns a 2011 graco nautilus child restraint seat, model number 8j00brv, and manufactured on november 29, 2012. The contactstated there were several attempts before the harness buckle released. There was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number02c014000 (harness buckle), however the replacement part was unavailable. The manufacturer was notified of the problem.

The contact owns a graco nautilus 8j00brv child seat, manufactured on june 22, 2013. The child seat was utilized in a 2005 buick lesabre. The contact stated that the child seat was included in a voluntary recall by the manufacturer regarding the replacement of the buckles. The parts to remedy the recall were received; however, the straps that were attached to the buckle would not fit in the appropriate hole. The straps were unable to be adjusted and they were not the same size, which caused the contact to hammer the buckle in the hole to reach a larger adjustment, and for the child to be restrained safely. The manufacturer was notified and unavailable to assist the contact. The voluntary recall number and purchase date were unknown.

Stuck crotch buckle, nothing led up to it. We purchased the seat in november 2012 and have no issues until yesterday. Could not undo the crotch buckle with any amount of force. Had to release the harness fully to squeeze the child out.

Thank you

Buckle won't unlatch.child was stuck in the seat in below zero weather.

Graco nautilus harnessed booster seat/manufacture date 12/11, purchase date 4/12the harness buckle on this seat becomes stuck and it is very difficult to disengage the buckle in order to remove the child from the seat.it has taken upwards to 10 minutes to unbuckle the child.i am concerned that if there were an accident or an emergency, that it would be very difficult to remove child from the car.i contacted the company and they are sending a replace harness/belt system.hopefully this will correct the problem.

The contact owns a graco nautilus three-in-one child restraint seat, model number 8j00brv. The contact stated that the twenty-one month old child was able to unhook the harness straps from the child seat. The contact stated that the clip that was across the child could also be pushed outward and the child could escape from the restraint altogether. The manufacturer was not contacted.

I have a new graco atlas combination seat. There is an issue with the harness on the seat that one side is longer than the other, resulting in an inability to properly tighten the strap to secure the child. I am awaiting resolution thru graco or will be returning the seat.your selection menu does not include the seat (it is a new one). The model number is 1946241 - graco atlas 65. The dom information i put in the other part of this form is accurate. I met with a cpst who confirmed it was a seat issue and not user or install.

Crotch buckles on graco nautilus car seat have plastic housing that is cracking.graco informed me that i could buy a replacement harness set for $10.this is unacceptable to me as it is obviously a defect in the material they are using.i know of others with the same problem.

The contact owns a graco nautilus child seat, model number: 8j00brv and manufactured june 19, 2008. The contact stated that the harness clip became fractured.

There wasn't an incident, and there hasn't been a failure. The crotch buckles on our graco nautilus are cracked on both sides. I called graco, and they have offered to replace the entire harness assembly for free. I only noticed a few days ago, so i on't know exactly when it happened.

Cpsc#x1260056a. Graco nautilus. Consumer stated the latch on the car seat would not unlatch. She stated the latch had to be cut, in order to release the child. *ln
