Model is graco 8c00grp manufactured on 4/26/2007.cam device that holds a strap connected to shoulder restraints does not engage.it would seem that either the cam spring is not strong enough to engage the stop cam or that the cam release does no re-engage the cam when the strap release is complete.this makes the seat unusable and dangerous.

I have two graco car seats and when i try and tighten the harness straps, one side tightens more than the other.i have to constantly take the seat out to adjust the straps and no matter what i do they still do not tighten the same.

I was out shopping with my daughter and grandson at our first stop i was having trouble getting the car seat to unbuckle my daughter informs me that it does that quite often some times it takes her 5 minutes or longer to get my grandson out. After almost 5 minutes of fighting with the buckle it finally released. After returning to the car i was not comfortable putting my grandson back in the car seat but figured we would get him out. Our next store we stopped at proved us wrong after 15 minutes and a very upset boy i finally had to cut him out of the straps to get him out of the car seat. We went into the store went directley to the baby department and picked up a new car seat. It sickens me to think what would have happened if there had been an accident or a fire. I contacted graco the same day we came home as i did not see this carseat on the recall list to make them aware there are problems with their car seat and 3 weeks later they wont even acknowledge i emailed them with the problem.

The contact owns a graco comfortsport child seat.the seat was manufactured on october 10, 2007.the fabric on the child safety seat was corroded and began to come apart.the fabric resembles velour-like material and is beginning to rot.the child seat has never been washed and the contact did not want to risk having the seat fall apart any further.the purchase date was unknown.

The buckle gets stuck when its locked. You can't get the belt to unbuckle.we had to take my child out without unbuckling.

Dt:graco comfort sport, model-# 8633dev, the latch belt interferes with the harness on the child seat, this problem is not visibly noticeable because it is all behind the padding.this problem kept the right side lap belt from not laying flat, loose or proper.*sc

My 13 month old daughter is able to unclip the harness tie of her graco comfort sport child seat, effectively negating the 5 point safety of the child seat.

Graco comfortsport convertible car seat maribell....i had to cut my child out of the seat because it was impossible to push the release buttons to get my child out of the seat. We even used tools to try and release the the release button. What would have happened if we were in a wreck or a fire happened and i had to get her out and couldn't. We had to buy a new seat.

Cpsc:i1430240a. Comfort sport car seat. Consumer stated the seat belt got stuck and she was not able to get her son out. *lnmodel# 177689; serial #d028090.

My child is unable to undo the harness tie in her graco comfortsport carseat. This leaves just the buckle in place which allows her to free her arms and chest. She then is able to lean over the carseat to the front and sides. There is a section below that asks for number of failures. It happens every ride. I contacted graco regarding this problem and have not yet received a response from them. Model number: 8639.

The contact owns a graco comfort sport (1770681), manufactured on 02/19/2011. While parked, the contact noticed that the child was able to unbuckle the chest clip. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the seat was still being used.

This is in regard to the graco comfortsport, model 1762268 with a date of manufacture of 2010/05/18. After using this car seat since he was an infant, all of the sudden, we turn around and see that he's no longer buckled in as the chest harness is unlatched. At first, i question whether i made a mistake and simply didn't click it properly. Low and behold, over the course of the day, there he goes, taking it off one time after another. I then removed the car seat from our vehicle and ordered a replacement chest clasp from graco directly. Besides the obvious inconvenience of moving the car seat between two cars for several days, what made my wife and i incredibly disappointed and downright upset is when the replacement came. Low and behold, we get the car seat back in and he's taken it off again!from our original premise that maybe the clasp was bent and damaged, it quickly turned into a clear fact that the design of the clasp is defective and absolutely unsafe. What if we were in an accident and he had just unlatched the clasp before impact? you know what the impact of such an event would be.i've included a link below where another consumer has the same car seat and question and the child does the same thing, he takes the chest clasp off.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58o9nvcsmragraco even acknowledges in their blog that this is occurring and this unit was manufactured six months after the acknowledgement of such a problem.http://blog.gracobaby.com/2009/11/12/faq-what-if-my-child-figures-out-how-to-open-the-chest-clip-on-their-car-seat/it's absolutely unacceptable. Instead of owning up to poor design and engineering with this clearly unsafe clip, you provide tips on how to get a child to stop opening the clasp. (just to note: we've done all the "tips" listed in the blog.) it's absurd to expect a two year old to stop doing so when they've figured it out.

Was tightening the harness straps and the metal buckle that holds the strap for tightening came unattached.the screws were broken and the plastic was worn underneath.metal buckle unable to be reattached.harness is loose and cannot be tightened now.

When securing the child restraint rear facing using the latch system the top of the seat flopped around. Consumer was concerned for the child's safety because the seat could not be tethered when rear facing (graco comfort sport model# 8432 blk).the seat also collapsed backwards when a little pressure was applied to the top of the seat.

I have a toddler nearly 2 years old using a graco comfortsport carseat (model # 8c00tmb)and recently she has been pulling back the cover on the car seat while riding in it and pulling the foam from the seat and eating it.i feel that someone should be made aware of this as it is a choking hazard.today in a 1 hour ride i had to pull over twice to get styrofoam out of her mouth.

My 17 month old son can very easily undo the chest retainer clip on his graco comfortsport child seat.i called graco and told them of the problem and they told me that kids learn how to undo the clasps from watching parents.i agree; however a 17 month old?he undid it so quickly and easily and did it multiple times in a matter of moments.i don't believe it is safe for the retainer clip to be so easily undone by my child while traveling down the road.i asked for suggestions and they told me that since i have another comfortsport child seat, to try and switch the retainer clip to see if the clip was defective.i looked at the clip and it locks securly and i do not see any damaged areas.

My complaint is against the graco carseat, in particular model #8489.the double chest clip can easily be opened by my son.it took him a few attempts and he was just 17 months at the time.graco replaced the clip with the exact same one.he is able to open that as well.graco's response was that "they should be easy to unlatch." i think this is very unsafe

Graco comfort sport model 8c00tmb, manufactured 9/15/2006 states that it is large enough for a child up to 40 inches.this is clearly not the case since our son is 33 1/2 inches and the over-the-shoulder harness is much too low on the back of the seat.he has not fit in this seat for a number of months.it clearly is unsafe and should not be advertised as large enough for children up to 40 inches.

I have a graco comfortsport car seat (forward facing) for my 23 month old son.two months ago, he learned to unbuckle the harness clip (the clip at chest level) on his own.i contacted graco by phone and email.over the phone, i was told to order a new clip, as the old one may have worn out and it was suggested that i try "distracting him" so he doesn't play with the clip.i ordered a new clip, which my son was able to unbuckle immediately.my email inquiry went unanswered.i began taping the harness clip together, however my son can now pick the tape off within 3 minutes of being buckled in.i am so concerned about being in a car accident without him properly buckled in. I also know that taping is probably unsafe, in case i am in an accident and he needs to be removed from his carseat quickly.i would like graco to recall the harness clips and provide newer safer for toddler harness clips. Thank you.

I purchased the graco comfort sport convertible car seat for my 8 month old. Appears to be a great seat until you try to install it to a vehicle. I have tried putting into two different cars, i have tried using the latch system and then tried the regular seat belt, no matter what i do the seat flops around the backseat like a dead fish. The part where the tether strap goes through is as tight as it can get and the top of the car seat still moves 5-10 inches side to side. Several people have tried to install this seat and none have been successful. This seat needs to be recalled.(related vehicle information: model year=2002, make=mercury, model=sable).

We purchased the graco comfortsport car seat for my 1 year old daughter.initially, we were pleased with the product, however, about three weeks ago, she began to unbuckle the harness tie (chest clip).she is currently 14 months and i firmly believe that no child should be able to manipulate their car seat.especially, at the age of 14 months when the child is unable to conceptualize the importance of properly wearing a seat belt.a typical car ride is as follows:my daughter is appropriately secured in her seat, but before even reaching the end of our road the chest clip is already unfastened.it is not practical to pull the car over every time this event occurs to only have it happen again before putting the car in drive.furthermore, since a 14 month old is able to manipulate the upper restraint of a car seat and is now only secured by the lower leg straps she is in jeopardy of incurring serious injuries if we were to be involved in a car accident.additionally, we are now not in compliance with state child restraint laws.i did contact graco requesting a different car seat or refund, so that a new seat could be purchased.their response:"we have ordered a new harness tie to be sent to you.sometimes when the plastic is new it is a little stiffer, therefore making it harder for the child to open."we were sent a replacement clip, which was installed and then opened by our 14 month old, again, before we even made it to the end of our street.graco was contacted again and they have since agreed to issue a refund.this is not a minor safety concern, children could be seriously injured if not properly restrained and there is no form of proper restraint when a car seat can be manipulated by a 14 month old.

Car seat harness clip is not staying latched.infant has been ridely unsafely due to harness failure.

Installed a graco 1813040 jj comfort sport in the rear facing position according to the instructions for our infant grandaughter. Quickly became concerned about the seat in the event of a rear end impact to a vehicle. The seat is very secure for a head on, or side impact, however; in a rear impact the seat will tilt to the rear and could cause seat and child to impact the vehicles seat back. This situation could easily be resolved if the tether strap could be wrapped under the vehicle seat and atached to the tether hook.

Graco comfort sport model # 8439san, dob 12/05/2002. When driving, the consumer noticed that her 18-month child was out of the forward facing car seat. The consumer pulled of the road to inspect the car seat. The child was able to unlatch the child safety clip.the childs arms would be out while his/her legs remained strapped. *sc

Dt*:the contact stated the positioning hinge on the rear of the child safety seat has worn and no longer stays in the downward position.the manufacturer was alerted.also, the positioning clip is easily moved by the child.this is a graco comfort sport, model #8630kbt, manufactured may, 25, 2004.updated 9/13/2006 -

The child came out of the car seat.opened the door and came out while the vehicle was moving.

I bought a convertible car seat, graco model 8639bev manufacture on 7 march 2006 for my four month old son and he is sitting in it rear facing.i noticed that his head flops forward and that it did not sit at the same angle as his infant carrier seat.on the af base that we work the child care center was offering a free car seat checkup so we took it in.they said though the tilt indicator was in the green like it said it was supposed to be for rear facing child seats, the seat was too far upright and needed to be tilted back to more like a 45 degree angle.with a swim noodle and a towel we managed to prop it up at the right angle, but now the tilt indicator is in the red.we corrected this problem, but aren't sure if there are other people with the same problem only don't know it.the inspectors were from the county health department (okaloosa, fl).

Cpst checking car seat today noted a problem with possibly mis-threaded harness adjustment strap.when consulting cr instructions page 20-21, it appears that splitter plate opens to the left side in diagram.splitter plate actually opened to right. The orientation of the splitter plate is significant as written instructions are based on the diagram.possible that instructions were incorrect however more likely that harness adjuster strap (& therefore splitter plate) was reversed in manufacturing process.difficult for parent to follow instructions.should consider replacement of harness adjuster strap or instruct owners on how to reverse the strap.

Saftey buckle on car seat is to easy for child to unlatch.my two year old can unbuckle her buckle, she did so without my knowledge and opened the car door while i was on the interstate doing 75 miles an hour.

Car seat straps are not tightening both sides equally.. One side is staying very lose and is going to cause a problem. I am constantly having to redo the straps to correct the problem. Graco is aware of problem and the girl stacy i spoke to from there told me she has the same carseat and she has the same problem and just has to suck it up, because graco is not going to fix the problem.if this problem with the straps does not get fixed it is going to cause serious injury to a child!!

I was driving on wet road and i couldn't stop fast enough, i hydroplaned into the back of a semi, i was not speeding, it was a hard impact, but not hard enough to break the carseat. Something internally broke in my daughters carseat causing her to come out and land in the floor board. The carseat was new, i bought it about 6 months ago. I haven't done anything to the carseat, and the manufacture doesn't want to do anything either. The carseat had a 5 point harness, the main buckle that goes in between the legs failed.now you can buckle it and hear the click, like it still works, but when you pull up, it comes right up.

We have a graco convertible car seat and our son is able to unclick the harness buckle (the one over his chest).graco said that's the only clip available.this seems to be a problem to me.

Graco model # 8437lib,dom08-13-2003.while at a red lightvehicle was hit from the rear.upon impact, the child seat shield broke, and the harness straps unbuckled.this caused the child to sustain minor injuries, and was transported to ahospital.

Graco model # 8439san, dom 11/16/2003. When taking the childof the child safety seat harness strap came out.manufacturer will be notified. Jb .. ..when putting child in car seat the center buckle between his legs came out of the seat, the locking clip still attached.

15 month old child can unclip the harness tie(5 point clip) with ease. Very dangerous when driving. I would rather have my child play with a full tylenol bottle than sit in this graco comfort sport car seat.

When driving the consumer noticed that the child was able to slip out of the shoulder straps.the child was able to unlock the child safety clip. Consumer contactedgraco about this issue (graco, model # 8432blk, dom 01/29/2003).

My 16 month old daughter is able to easily release the chest clip on her car seat.she is not old enough to understand that she should not do this and therefore keeps taking it off.this would be very dangerous in an accident.

The contact owns a graco car seat comfort sport model 8c13anc2, manufacturer 01-26-09, serial p-2577. The contact stated that the harness buckle was defective because her children were able to unlock the harness chest lock without any help. The children unlocked the buckle while she drove and she was concerned that they would distract her and cause a crash. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that they would replace the buckle but if the children were able to unlock the buckle, then the parents were at fault.

My child, age 23 months, is able to unclip her chest buckle on her carseat.she has done this several times over the course of the last month and i have since replaced her carseat. I contacted the manufacturer who claimed that some children can do this and it is nothing that is their concern. I have had the carseat about 1 year and after insisting they are sending out a new chest buckle. I have 5 children and never encountered this problem before. I feel the item is very cheaply made and that if it is so easy for a small child to detach then it wouldn't stand up in a vehicle crash.

-the contact stated that the harness' buckle system, that goes between the child's legs of thegraco comfortsport child safety seat model#8639beb failed.when the buckle is being fastened onehasto be pullingon the webbing, andwhenpulling on the webbing it becomes loose. He went to fastened his son into the seat, and while pulling the leaver ,the latch became detached.

The contact owns a graco comfortsport child seat, model number 8633dev.the seat was manufactured on october 21, 2004.while the contact was attempting to release his child from the seat, he noticed that the right side buckle would not unlatch.the contact had to pull his child through the left side of the seat in order to be released.the purchase date was unknown.

My 2 year old daughter can undo the chest clip on the graco comfortsport car seat.

Was tightening the harness straps and the metal buckle that holds the strap for tightening came unattached.the screws were broken and the plastic was worn underneath.metal buckle unable to be reattached.harness is loose and cannot be tightened now.

The buckle gets stuck when its locked. You can't get the belt to unbuckle.we had to take my child out without unbuckling.

I was out shopping with my daughter and grandson at our first stop i was having trouble getting the car seat to unbuckle my daughter informs me that it does that quite often some times it takes her 5 minutes or longer to get my grandson out. Car seat harness clip is not staying latched.infant has been ridely unsafely due to harness failure.

Straps become difficult to tighten and loosen and then the harness straps come completely detached from rear of seat.

This is in regard to the graco comfortsport, model 1762268 with a date of manufacture of 2010/05/18. After using this car seat since he was an infant, all of the sudden, we turn around and see that he's no longer buckled in as the chest harness is unlatched. Harness is coming detached from splitter plate. I called graco and was told that no other complaints have been made and they would send me a new harness, which i do not think will do any good.

As a nhtsa certified cps technician, i inspected a graco comfort sport car seat, css model no. 8630mtr, date of manufacture 01-19-2007. The car seat was purchased new by the parent. The harness straps were not hooked onto the splitter plate because the splitter plate was jammed in the adjuster strap metal housing. I could not loosen the splitter plate from the metal housing and could not adjust the adjuster strap to loosen the splitter plate in order to hook the harness straps onto the splitter plate. The parent told me the car seat was in this condition when she installed the car seat. She used a locking clip to hold the harness straps together in the back of the car seat. I gave her a loan seat to use until she bought a new car seat. She returned the defective car seat to target in also viejo, california.

My child is unable to undo the harness tie in her graco comfortsport carseat. This leaves just the buckle in place which allows her to free her arms and chest. She then is able to lean over the carseat to the front and sides. There is a section below that asks for number of failures. It happens every ride. I have two graco car seats and when i try and tighten the harness straps, one side tightens more than the other.i have to constantly take the seat out to adjust the straps and no matter what i do they still do not tighten the same.

The contact owns a graco comfort sport child restraint seat, model number 8c00lnw2, manufacturer's date of february 15, 2008. She stated that the self-adjusting 5-point harness straps would continue to get stuck around her child. One strap would be extremely loose while the other one was too tight, and vice versa. The manufacturer was contacted and they provided new straps for the child seat; however the failure persisted. The manufacturer advised sending the child seat back for them to further investigate it.

- the contact has a graco comfort sport child seat model 8637 azc and the two year old child could unlatch himself while the contact was driving.the contact stated that the child would unlatch the plastic clamp that heldthe shoulder webbing and then wiggle his way out of the seat or sit there not fully strapped in. The contactcalled the manufacturer about this problem, and they were unable to provide her with any assistance.the contact stated that she needed a safer way to lockthechild in the seat.

Thank you.

(1) this car seat was installed and adjusted to my child's weight and height exactly as described in the manufacturer's instruction manual (for a forward facing installation with latch).in addition, this seat had always been properly utilized in a 4-door sedan with the absolute strictest adherence to all usage guidelines outlined in the manufacturer's instruction manual. (2) during a normal car ride, the left harness strap slipped completely off of the splitter plate and then fell down through the harness strap slot and into my child's lap. This seat failure put my child's life and safety at major risk and would have been catastrophic in the event of an accident. (3) the harness strap was reattached as described in the manufacturer's instruction manual; however, it should be well noted that a recurrence of this major malfunction will not be tolerated as we intend to stop using this car seat altogether until a remedy (and/or refund) is issued.

Consumer's child is no longer able to fit in the graco comfort sport child seat even though it is suppose to fit up to 40lbs.*mrthe consumer wishes to withdrawal his complaint because he has learned of a different way to adjust the seat.

The contact owns a graco comfort spt child seat, model # 1762268. The contact noticed that the harness near the armpit of her child could easily be unbuckled. The contact feared that the child would unbuckle the harness and release himself.

The contact owns a graco comfort sport child seat. The contact stated that the buckle which fastened the harness near the legs became stuck on numerous occasions. The buckle required excessive force to release the harness and remove the child from the seat. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa.

The contact owns a graco comfortsport child safety seat.the seat was manufactured on january 1, 2004.the top latch that extends across the chest area of the child (chest buckle) does not restrain the contact's 16-month old child.in one vehicle ride, the child can latch and unlatch the belt at least 30 times.the contact purchased a replacement latch from an evenflo model, which remedied the issue.she was informed that she could not use the evenflo replacement with models other than those intended for its purposes.the purchase date was unknown.

The left shoulder strap came loose from the hook that attaches it to the adjusting strap on the back of the carseat.i noticed this when i could not tighten the left strap.i tried tightening it by pulling slack to the right side of the strap and felt it was almost tight enough when the strap came all the way through the slot on the back of the carseat.there was no accident and i noticed the problem and corrected it.however this happened again a few days ago.the hook that holds the shoulder straps in place is very narrow and it appears it is easy for the strap to become unhooked, leaving the child restained on only one side.although i am very diligent about adjusting the seat everytime i use it, i could have driven away with the strap unhooked.

The tightening buckle on the latch webbing is mounted backwards, making both tightening and loosening the latch strap extremely difficult.in other words, when the latch device is properly attached to the automobile seat, the device on the child seat's latch webbing used to tighten the webbing strap is situated between the webbing and the car seat; this makes sufficient tightening of the latch webbing quite difficult (and undoing it after just about impossible).graco comfort sport, model 8630 mtrca.manf date 2005.01.01(note that model # here is correct - the model i entered later is incorrect because this model number was not an option in your dropdown list.)

Dt:graco comfort sport, model-# 8633dev, the latch belt interferes with the harness on the child seat, this problem is not visibly noticeable because it is all behind the padding.this problem kept the right side lap belt from not laying flat, loose or proper.*sc

The contact owns a graco child restraint seat, model: comfort sport.the child seat was secured in a 2005 gmc pickup (n/a). The contact stated that the seat belt became lodged into the locking mechanism and the contact was unable to remove the child from the child seat. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.the vin was not available.

Screws fell out of the locking mechanism (metal release bar) on my 1 year old's graco comfortsport car seat. Graco will send a call tag so i can send the car seat to them for inspection, and if they find it is defective they will send a new seat.this leaves the consumer with no safety seat until the manufacturer sends one back. Like other mgfrs (evenflo), graco should send replacement until problem is resolved. - please note, i do not know if i chose the correct component under the child restraint component information section.

Graco comfortsport convertible car seat maribell....i had to cut my child out of the seat because it was impossible to push the release buttons to get my child out of the seat.

The child seat safety harness straps loosen. As a result, the child is not restrained properly.

On 03/07/04 my daughter was involved in a car accident. A child was in a car seat made by graco- serial#8432-blk- model-2003-06-07-m. The left restraining strap on the car seat came completely out of the slot from the back of the seat and was laying on the front of the seat. The child was only strapped in by the right shoulder strap and the latch in the middle. I have reported this to graco. They refuse to replace the seat and my daughter's insurance company will not either since she did not have collision on the vehicle. I do not trust the safety of the seat since this has occured. If you can be of any help to get a replacement through graco please let me know. In any case i felt this should be reported to the proper authorities in case of additonal complaints.thank you.

I am writing due to concerns i have about my graco comfort sport car seat. I have my son front facing with the straps in the highest slot. The problem i am having is the left strap will not get tight enough even after i've re-adjusted the straps and guide them in while i am tightening straps up. I've consulted the owners manual and re-adjusted the seat many times and i still have the same issue. I've even had other people read the manual and adjust it with the same result. As a result i cannot get the harness on the car seat secure.
