I have the graco my size 70 car seat.the chest clip that goes across the child's chest is too easy to open.my child is able to unlatch the chest clip and slip his arms through the straps.also, it is difficult to pull the straps tight.i have to slide my hand behind the car seat and pull on the straps, which there isn't much room to fit my hand behind the seat.

My 2 year old daughter broke the left side upper bolster styrofoam on her carseat under normal routine use.the carseat is a graco safeseat-s2, manufactured 06/05/08 and purchased at a local babies-r-us less than one year ago. I have contacted graco and provided details on this product failure.

The consumer was unsure of how to install the child seat, therefore the seat wobbled and tilted as the vehicle turned corners.(swingride)mrscc

One of the shoulder straps was improperly (and only partially) attached to the splitter plate when the seat was removed from the box for the first time (i.e. The seat was brand new).since the strap was not fully secured, had this not been noticed and corrected (while meeting with a trained cpsti) the infant could have been ejected from the seat in a crash.this problem, once identified, was easily corrected by removing the strap from the splitter plate and rethreading it properly see pictures for how the straps were attached when the seat came out of the box:http://thecarseatlady.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/img_20120206_175133.jpghttp://thecarseatlady.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/img_20120206_175145.jpghttp://thecarseatlady.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/img_20120206_175225.jpgthe seat is the graco snug ride 35lx (for infants 4-35 pounds).model number 1814657.

I am a passenger safety technician and have had two instances in which clients have returned graco ultra cargo combination car seats to us in which the harness adjuster, located on the front of the seat, was defective and came apart, rendering the car seat unusable. This is a safety defect in that the parent is unable to reliably adjust the tightness of the harness. The car seats needed to be replaced.

- the contact owns a graco child safety seat, the contact wasn't currently experiencing any incidents withthe child safety seat. The contact'sworry was due to the news report and crash ratings on the child safety seats. The contact's safety seat of the fourteen rated, rated number eleven.the crash results were based on 35 mph speeds, and the speed limit in her area was at the minimum 45 mph. The contact's graco child safety seat was rated fair on the consumer'sreport.org website. The contact spoke with graco, and was offered$10 coupon on her next purchase. The contact was concerned for the safety of her infant.

Graco model 8457, dom 09-15-2000; child seat unlatchedand fell forward.consumer just happened to be sitting there and was able to catch it. This was the second time it happened.

I am a former certified child passenger safety technician. I purchased 2 graco my size 70 child safety seats(1807015). Installed in multiple vehicles in rear-facing orientation, and used with a 30 lb, 13-month-old, male child. Verified the seat adjustments and harness height are correct. While the seat installs well in the vehicles, the harness system appears to have a potential design flaw. With no child in the seat, the harness will sufficiently tighten with no restriction by pulling the harness adjustment strap on the front of the seat. However ? with a child in the seat, pulling the harness adjustment strap will pull most of the slack out of the harness system, but with approximately 1 ? 2? of slack left in the harness, which becomes restricted and extremely difficult to pull the remaining slack from the harness. My wife is unable to pull the harness tight enough to properly restrain our son, based on the ?pinch test? and her ability to insert multiple fingers between his shoulders and the harness straps. With significant force, i am able to tighten, but requires pulling the slack forward along the bottom front aspect of the seat and feeding it forward through the release mechanism of the seat while pulling the adjustment strap with my other hand. I've verified that the harness system has no restrictions until it passes through the harness release mechanism on the front of the seat. I'm wondering if the issue has something to do with resistance of the child in the seat and the angle at which the adjustment strap is being pulled through the release mechanism. I have experienced the identical issue on 2 separate identical seats with different manufacture dates. Online reviews suggest others experiencing this issue. I would imagine some children are not restrained tight enough if utilizing this child safety seat. I have discussed my concerns with graco, who has forwarded to their child safety seat group and will follow up with me. Please follow up with me, as well.

Consumer states that her child is able to pull down on the bar that holds him into the belt, causing him to fall from the seat, the bar is what is used to tighten the belt for a proper fit, model number 7404p8, manufactured 27-apr-2001, seat was purchased new on 01-dec-2001.

Dt*: the contact stated there were 3 problems with the child safety seat. The first was the positioning clip slid down the straps causing too much shoulder room and allowed one shoulder to slip out of the harness. The second was with the shoulder harness strap which continuous looped allowing the strap to loosen on one shoulder and tighten on the other. The third problem was that the glue attaching the manufacturer emblem to the base of the shell was softened by the vehicles interior heat allowing the child to pull it loose, exposing a risk of swallowing or choking on the item. While in rear facing mode, headrest/harness adjusted just below the shoulders, the harness would not tighten up snug on my sons chest. I tried & tried. It would just hit a spot & stop tightening. I could move it up a "click" & position the harness above his shoulders & get it a bit tighter, however not only do we know above is unacceptable for rear facing, it still was not tight enough to keep him safe & failed the pinch test.

Latch attachment on one side of the seat does not stay tight.just a slight tug and the attachment pulls all the way out.since the seat isn't listed in the drop down on the next page, it is the graco affix booster.model 1852665.(related vehicle information: model year=2006, make=malibu, model=chevy).

The graco cargo highback booster (model 8486pro) carseat has a shoulder belt positioner that allows the child to pull the straps loose and since it cannot retract the belt remains loose allowing a child to slip out from under the belt in the case of an accident.i have had to pull the car over several times to tighten up the belt again after it has been pulled loose.

This car seat has a gap for a seat belt (when the seat is changed to a booster), between the back and bottom. The gap is on both sides. My child has gotten her leg stuck in the gap many many times. If i were in an accident while her leg is stuck, i cannot imagine the damage that would be done to her. Every time she cries i have to pull over to check if her leg is stuck/get it out. This is incredibly dangerous. She is rear facing in the seat. She weighs 19 pounds. I have pictures if necessary to further describe this failure. Head rest that came with child seat effects the harness fit. *mr the head rest that came as original equipment with the vehicle affected the harness fit.when the straps were threaded through the upper strap slot and then through the head rest it appeared that the straps were coming out of the restraint at or below the shoulders.the straps were actually too high on the seat to properly restrain the infant. (graco 7454wnn) *scc *nlm

Graco child seat model 72499lk, dom 10/14/98 latch is not working properly, leaving the child unrestrained.

Shoulder strap is not secure enough to restrain child because retainer clip does not lock.child is able to remove straps from shoulder.

The graco "princeton" infant car seat (product 7429vl) has a design defect in the way the straps work.as you let out the straps to make them longer the "y' strap configuration in the back interferes with the hook mechanism that is supposed to clip into the car seat base.

Harness strap for graco infant car seat, have used for 4 months and the the strap slides out and opens anytome me son tries to sit up.that means i probally have been driving around in a defected car seat since my son was born. If i would have been and an accident he would have slid right out lf the car seat. I tried to get a hold of graco but closed on sundays. I had to drive out of town to the nearest babies r us, but of course it was the wrong color, cause no one in town carried a replacement part. A little over a year ago, i purchased a graco infant car seat model number 8465wsr3.i recently had to wash the car seat pad for the second time since i have owned it, carefully following the care instructions. Shortly after replacing the pad and strapping my 11 month old son in the seat, i turned around and noticed that he begun removing the padding material and began choking on it after it was placed in his mouth.he was able to gain access to the padding material because the fabric holding it in place had deteriorated after it was washed.

According to the manual for the graco safeseat infant restraint, "graco does not recommend using the latch system in the center position if the spacing is greater than 280 mm (11 inches) unless recommended by your vehicle owner's manual.according to graco, they don't recommend using a seat with non-standard spacing at all.the wording in the manual leads to the assumption that there are circumstances where non-standard spacing is acceptable to use when this is apparently not the case.

Graco 4ever recline indicator bubble expanded (doubled) in size around a year after manufacture date (seat has 10 year life span!). The large bubble size makes it impossible to see if the seat is within the proper recline mode for a rear-facing child. I have photos of the new enlarged bubble if you would like to see them. It makes the seat impossible to install at any recline angle while keeping the bubble within the blue line as the manufacturer requires. I'm a cpsti and find this concerning, as it could cause a young child without head control to be placed too upright.

I bought 4graco mysize 70s. The first one the harness wouldn't tighten all the way. I replaced it and got one that does work. I bought another for my husbands car. The harness wouldn't tighten evenly. It was bad enough that i could fit a stuffed animal under one side. I followed all of gracos recommendations and nothing helped. I returned tothe store i bought it from and got another and this time the chest clip is so hard to open that we have to completely loosen it and pull my son out from the top. I will be returning this seat and buying a better seat as soon as finances allow. Otherwise i am playing the car seat shuffle until then.

The graco safeseat failed all of the consumer reports crash tests. I have a ford explorer which is the vehicle used during the tests. If i am side swiped and nobobdy did anything about this failure, i will sue. I am sorry but this is just unacceptable and somebody should recall this seat. I paid $130 for this "safe" seat which obviously doesn't live up to it's name. Model number on mine is 8a05rxy. Please contact me with any questions or comments. Thank you for your consideration, mindy ratliff.

I am a child passenger safety technician.i own a graco size4me70 model number 183446.harness is impossible to adjust to correct tightness to secure child in the restraint.harness also does not tighten evenly, leaving the left side of the harness most loose than the right side.recently upon use of the product, the harness has loosened on it's own during travel time.

I have contacted the manufacturer - graco baby about the news articles stating that their products failed crash tests performed by consumer reports. Graco baby customer representative denied that their products are unsafe - and insist that the tests was done wrong. I think that the nhtsa should seriously look into this matter and possibly change the testing standards so as to address these issues before an infant fatality occurs.

My 5 point graco carseat is wonderful, but i am concerned about the handle.the incident i am about to describe has happened to me a number of times.sometimes when the handle is in the up direction, but not latched, i have picked up the car seat & walked away w/o realizing that the car seat has flipped up and baby is being held in by the straps. I haven't even noticed a weight shift, because the movement is so smooth.fortunately, only one time my baby was not strapped in and she fell head first on the floor without injury.i realize that i need to make a more concious effort to lock the handle before i pick it up, but i am alarmed that i have done this 5 times in the past four months.my old 3 point car seat was a century, and when i lifted that car seat up, the handle automatically latched in place so that it wouldn't tip.perhaps i have just gotten used to that feature, but i wanted to file a complaint in case there are other parents who are experiencing the same problem.thank you.

While restrained the child was able to reach the standard safety belt and wrap it around his/her neck twice. The retractor locked the belt strangling the child. The consumer was able to remove child from the belt before being strangled to death.

My son is 27 months old, 32 lbs and in a graco child safety seat purchased in 2003. He is able to easily unbuckle the buckle securing the two harness straps together at his chest. I went to purchase a different style car seat that did not have the one-hand release of the buckle but found they all were like that. This is a safety concern if he would be only partially buckled if we were in an accident. It also is quite a distraction trying to make sure he is still buckled while i'm driving and then trying to convince him to buckle up again after he has already unbuckled. While at toys r us looking for a different car seat or at least something i could cover the buckle with so he would not be able to unbuckle, the clerk told me that there have been many other parents at the store with the same problems. This style of one-handed buckle release is okay until the child figures out how easy it is for him/her to undo it. *la

The child and mother were involved in and accident in which the mother was killed, the child was restrained in the back seat of the vehicle and was in a graco lite rider car seat, the child received tramatic injuries as a result of this accident including a fractured skull, the buckle which goes into the front bottom portion of the car seat broke loose from the car seat during impact resulting in the child not being securely fastened in the car seat (attorney for client).nlm

The following is the text of the letter i sent to graco, the manufacturer:i am writing to you to relate the experience we have had with two graco quest high back booster seats.on both seats, the clip that retains the shoulder strap has torn away from the seat cover. I noticed that there was a piece of material sewn under the cover so i gently pulled the clip to determine how much strength was left in the attachment.to my horror it came off in my hand. I would guess that the purpose of this clip, if not the entire booster seat is to position the shoulder strap correctly on the child's body. I cannot envision that a clip that could be removed with such little force would be at all effective during a crash.i have destroyed the seats and sent them to the incinerator so that they would not be used. Please note that these seats were the fourth in a series of car seats that we have purchased for our twins, and had seen less than a year of use. Since we have seats for three cars, their usage during that time was not excessive. In fact, there were no signs of wear other than the clips pulling out from the material. I believe that this product should be investigated, and if they all have the same type of quality and/or construction, i would suspect that their ability to protect a child during a crash is minimal.*la

Chest clip buckle on a newer graco4ever car seat got warped without being in use. Buckled my child in and was unable to unbuckle him.

I'm very disappointed to see that so much is empathized on the safety of car seats and their proper installation, including the new latch system. Why? because i have my car seats installed properly and the problem is the chest clips on all car seats i've owned. Every child of mine seems to undo the chest clips which poses as much danger to the child as not having them buckled in correctly does. Nothing has ever been done that i've seen in the past 18 years to improve them-safety wise. I can't tell you how many times in a 10 mile drive i have to pull over to re-fasten the chest clip or ask the older child to hook it.please i urge you to change the way car seat manufactures make their chest clips. I have 3 brands so it's not linked to just one. Please come up with a way that no child can undo their chest clips, which would cause great injury or death to a child.i want to thank you for your time and think about the lives of every child by making vital changes to all car seat chest clips.

Child is able to unfasten harness clip and slip arms out of straps while being driven invehicle.

We have been using our graco ultra cargo seat, model 8487, with harness straps for over a year without a problem.in converting the seat to use as a booster with our vehicle seat belts, we have discovered that the seat belt cannot move freely through the seatbelt guide (known to graco as comfort clips) located at the top of the seat.i believe this is a safety issue as the guide may prevent the vehicle shoulder belt from retracting.in august 2004, consumer reports refused to rate a booster seat that did not allow the seat belt to retract.this is further affirmation of a safety issue.the seat should be recalled.

Consumer states that the retainer clip on the vehicle is not locking into place. Nlm

We own a 2000 chrysler town & country minivan.i was reinstalling my childs booster seat in the second row.i was kneeling into the middle of the booster seatto secure it tightly, i then latched the buckle (and double checked to make sure it had indeed latched).next i was shocked to see it come unbuckled after i had hardly even bumped a corner of the latch with my knee (i think), as i tried to get off of the seat.it scares me to consider, what if my daughter, while moving about as kids do, accidently unbuckles her booster seat!i also worry that my son may unknowingly unlatch one of my younger daughter's childseats by barely bumping their seatbelts as he climbs into the rear third-row seat!please, please, please help consumers by insisting that dodge/chrysler recall these dangerous gen3 (as i now am aware they are called) seatbelts and replace them with the newer gen4 model.

I own a car seat that has an unsafe chest clip. My daughter is 15 months old, and is unable to comprehend directions. She is able to push on the clip buttons, and the clip pops open almost effortlessly.i contacted the manufacturer, and attempted to exchange it for a safer seat at the retailer, but was turned down by both parties.

Graco safe seat, the buckle that comes up between the child's legs had a failed mechanism inside which was causing it to not latch properly.luckily no accident occurred i just noticed that it wasn't "clicking" when i would fasten my child into the seat, at this time i had owned it the seat for 4 months.you can get a replacement buckle but it takes a considerable amount of time, for me it was 3 weeks.graco is refunding my money for the seat and paying shipping as well.i had to go and buy a new car seat to replace it.

The contact owns a graco child safety seat in a 2014 kia sorento. The contact stated that the child seat straps were not tightened properly. The manufacturer was notified. I knew graco would have taken their dear sweet time getting it to me. I will contact graco on monday, and have to wait for the right piece, and better get all my money back including gas.

Manufacturer: graco model: comfort sport model #: 8639 gry build date: 05/16/06.

The contact owns a 2006 graco child safety seat.when the child is sitting in the seat, he is able to unhook the harness latch.the manufacturer sent an identical replacement latch, but the child is still able to unlatch it while the vehicle is in motion.the model # is 8b03psn.

This is about a graco 4ever with the manufacturing date of may 2016, but i have heard it is happening with other makes and models. The model number of mine is 1938449. The child safety restraint was fraying from the base up. The damage was covered by the seat padding and not discoverable. My child used the car seat for less than six months. She passed away april 13, 2017 due to cancer. I discovered a few months ago the seat was fraying when i removed the padding to wash it for the preparation for my newborn baby. I contacted graco and they insist it is normal wear and tear not covered by an expired one year warranty. This is not normal wear and tear but a grave safety hazard. I understand other mothers have experienced this. Graco should recall the seat and not be allowed to hide behind the defense of the one year warranty as this defect is not discoverable and is hidden beneath the padding of the seat until it gets very bad (and remarkably unsafe).

Graco 4ever car seat has either a defective crotch strap location or the manual needs to be updated informing parents how to properly install the seat.have contacted graco, 7 weeks ago multiple times, however, the engineers have not got an answer about the seat.

Belts provided for the graco infant safe seat do not fit a 7 month old of average size with a light coat on and are extremely difficult to buckle even without heavy clothes or a coat.belts are fully extended according to the manufacturers directions.manufacturer states that this car seat will fit up to 30 lbs and 32 inches. We have found this to be a false claim and have had to replace this seat with a convertible seat.our child is 26 inches long and 17.5 lbs.in a rear facing position the shoulder belts should come up and over the child's shoulders in order to fit our child in this seat we had to move the belts to the highest level where they come down from about 1.5 to 2 inches above her shoulders.we have tried both the second and third belt positions with this product with the belts fully extended.we feel that this belt position is not safe considering every manufacturer states that the rear facing belts should not come from above the child's shoulders.

Graco model# 8480wz, dom03/16/00. Within 6 months of purchasing booster seatelastic around padding was not holding and causing pad to slip off with guide clip, making seat belt move. Contacted dealer, and dealer replaced it twice. But, still is having problems.

The problem occurred about a week ago when my daughters ages 2 yrs, and 7 months were riding side-by-side in my car.the stickers on the two year ld seat, unknown to me, had began to peal, and flake.she handed a uarter sized piece of this material to the 7 month old as we were goingdown the road.the 7 month old put this in her month, and began to choke.she had spit-up, and was having difficulty breathing.thankfully, i was ble to safely pull over.my daughter was becoming extremly distressed.after attempting multiple finger sweeps, i discovered, and was able to remove the piece of plastic coated sticker from my baby's airway.i then removed all stickers from the two year olds seat for the safety of the baby.i'm was not asking for a recall, (the car seat company has sent us a new seat)just an announcement to make parents aware that this could happen.i had never thought to check the stickers.i always test their seats, and the buckles before putting them in, but had never thought of this type of threat.even though my daughter is fine now, this was a very scary ordeal that i hope no other parent will have to go through.

This is not for a vehicle but for a carseat, and was directed to this form to file my complaint. We own a graco booster, model number 8480hg, the plastic harness tie, the piece that pulls the two straps together in the center, has started to show wear.the plastic piece that slides under the second strap now has a large crack in it and looks as if in a couple more uses it will fall completely off. We have contacted graco, they are sending a replacement, but i worry that this will continue to happen unless they use a thicker, stronger plastic.

When adjusting harness strap it will not tighten up. Please include model # and maufacturer date.

The graco "princeton" infant car seat (product 7429vl) has a design defect in the way the straps work.as you let out the straps to make them longer the "y' strap configuration in the back interferes with the hook mechanism that is supposed to clip into the car seat base.

Consumer states as she was putting baby into car seat, she noticed that the plate was interfering with the car seat seat locking into the base, in order to get the seat to properly hook into place, consumer would have to pull the plate to one side of the hook or the other causing one strap on the baby to go very slack while the other became extremely tight, with such maneuvering the seat hook would usually go into the slot, but even then it did not always lock securely into place without forecful maneuvering, consumer contacted manufacturer and they sent her an extra length of strap which fixed the problem.

While driving child seat harness straps became unlatched while being restrained.

The straps come out of position, the clamp has teeth which holds the strap in position. However, the piece that slides up and down and holds the straps in position is not functioning properly.

The harness straps was extremely tight and did not extend enough for child.

Early in the spring my husband and i purchased two graco platinum ultra cargo 5-point harness/booster seats (model # 8489 tra) at seperate stores. After owning each for 3 1/2 months we discovered that that harness straps did not lock when buckled. We contacted graco who refunded our money and accepted the returned seats. We purchased the same seats and after aproximately 100 days of ownership experienced the same problem. We contacted graco and were told that the company had identified a problem with the first set of seats. We will be returning the seats to them to be tested and our money will be refunded. The last two seats were manufactured in february 2004 and may 2004. Our concern is for the safety of the other children using that seat if this is a problem. It is very unsafe as someone could be seriously injured in a crash.

Thread on strapharnessis coming apart. Graco will be notified about the problem.

While driving today the car seat became loose and rolled over on it's side with my toddler buckled in. When i pulled over i discovered the latch system had detached on the passenger side. I have had my 1999 maxima for 4 months, have found problems swaying or drifting suspention while driving, hesitation in automatic transmission when accelling from a rolling stop, seatbelt locking and would not release, left hand turn bumpy front end suspention shake...all of these problems are very scarry and dangerous..emmediate action should be taken(by manufacturer) to fix these safety issues at no cost to loyal consumers.

While restrained the child was able to reach the standard safety belt and wrap it around his/her neck twice. The retractor locked the belt strangling the child. The consumer was able to remove child from the belt before being strangled to death.
