I have had 2 evenflo car seats and both models have an issue with the release latch for the belt.the screw securing the release latch comes loose (and eventually will come out) if the screw is not re-tightened).this report is for the model evenflo momentum 65; model number 3853998 manufactured on 7/9/2013.this is a very serious situation, because if not caught will render the entire belt restraining the child in the car seat completely useless.i contacted evenflo today to let them know that this model is doing the same thing as the other model i have.i will do another report on the other model of evenflo car seat that i have that does the same thing (although, the screw becomes loose much more quicker on the other model).the date reported below is the date i first contacted evenflo about this situation.this has occurred in the car seat while rear and forward facing.

Evenflo car seat: model name: momentum, model number: 38511101, manufacture date: 20130513.1. The design places a high amount of stress on the harness straps where the strap goes through belt guides on the underside of the seat, to transition from an orthogonal (perpendicular) direction on the top side of the seat.during normal use, when the harness is fully tightened on the child, the guides place stress on the harness straps and causing them to fray.2. Continued use of the car seat would cause the harness straps to fail completely or break suddenly during a crash event, failing to restrain the child. 3. I called evenflo about the issue and was instructed the seat is no longer under warranty and to discontinue it's use.i was unhappy with this response and was then told i could email them photos of the car seat.the following is their email response: "thank you for submitting your photos. The engineering department has written back and said that there seems to have been a small animal that has gotten into the seat and chewed on the straps. The seat is out of warranty however, i would like to offer you a 25% discount off any evenflo seat with free shipping as well. Visit www.evenflo.com and call us at 1-800-233-5921 with the item number and we can process the order."i know a small rodent didn't chew through the straps.it's clear there is a design issue, especially considering the damage is almost identical on both straps. Furthermore, it's improbable that a rodent would be selective enough to damage exactly the same area on both straps in the exact same fashion, but leave the rest of the soft goods on the seat perfectly intact.additionally there were no rodent droppings found in or near the car seat.after informing evenflo this is not rodent damage they did offer as a one time convenience to replace the car seat.ultimately it seems evenflo is trying to avoid a recall.note: similar complaints about frayed harnesses can be found online.
