Harness randomly loosens off automatically.

Radian r120 manufactured 2/2013--the cam lock is malfunctioning and the harness is becoming loose while the child seat is in use. I have had 3 car seat techs look at this seat and we were not able to solve the problem. This seat is not safe to continue using. Diono has been reluctant to respond to the issue.

Latch mechanism failure. Investigated by cpst.latch installed according to manual in a rear facing mode with top tether on a sunshine kids radian xtsl.when installed the child riding in the car is able to repeatedly kick the latch by her feet and loosen it. The belt slips and doesn't remain with a tight install. Both webbing is parallel and should "lock" into place but it fails to do so. (related vehicle information: model year=2004, make=chevrolet, model=trailblazer).

Diono radian harness adjuster loosens on it's own during travel sometimes. The metal piece loosens (over time?) and won't spring back into the 'locked' position every time the harness is tightened.

I purchased a radian 80sl in february of this year (seat dom- 1/2010, superlatch belt dom- 12/2009) and installed it right away. It was installed with the superlatch belt and with much less than 1" of movement when checked at the belt path. A few weeks ago i noticed that the tilt lock adjuster on the superlatch belt had moved further down on the seat. I checked for movement at the belt path and it was a good 2"+ of movement. Since then i was needing to tighten it everyday, however i have stopped using it altogether since my 2 year old is able to push the release on the superlatch belt and loosen the seat even more. I also noticed that the seat gradually reclined greater than 45 degrees on its own (i assume this is due to the superlatch loosening).(related vehicle information: model year=2005, make=honda, model=pilot).

Sunshine kids (diono) radian 65 forward facing child seatchest clip tab broke while securing child.researched and found a safety notice for these seats on diono website.called and customer rep said "we found they've been breaking."

Failure of the latch strap on both of my sunshine radiansl model 16500 car seats. I will find the buckle on the latch strap opens/loosens which leaves the seat unlocked and not secure.i suspect that my toddler is kicking it open although i have not witnessed this event.this event has occurred 3 time on one seat and once onanother seat.i called the company and they have replaced the superlatch/lower anchor strap on eachof the two car seats.i am concerned because i have seen several forum posts of other consumers having the same issue with their radians.(your website did not have a model 16500 option when entering information, therefore i used the 18500 option which is a similar seat.)(related vehicle information: model year=2003, make=odyssey, model=honda).

We have owned the sunshine kids radian 80 for 4 years. There is a strap on the bottom that you pull on to tighten the harness. The harness has been loosenin after tightening and locking. This happens sometimes during a vehicle ride and is incredibly unsafe.

We have two sunshine kids radian xtsls manufactured in 09/10 and 10/10 (model # us19500) for our twins.they are installed rear-facing in our 2010 mazda5 with super latch.on various occasions i have noticed that the super latch has become loose.at first i thought it was due to an installation error on my part, but i would tighten the super latch and have a great install and have the same problem occur.i'd say it's happened with both seats at least 3 times.i think my children are somehow bumping the buckle or resting their feet on it while we are traveling and this is loosening the buckle.it should not be this easy to loosen!i notice because the seats become very loose and there is no way that the super latch was not tight as i now check it every time i put my kids in the radians.i'm contacting diono today about replacement super latches but am very disappointed after reading online about there being over 100 complaints to the nhtsa about this problem that diono has not been required to issue a recall for their super latch.if i would have known that this seems to be a common problem with these seats, i would not have chalked up my initial problems with the super latch to an error on my part.i wonder how many other parents out there are doing that right now.(related vehicle information: model year=2010, make=mazda5, model=mazda5).

The contact owns a sunshine kids child restraint, radian 80, model number 185000, manufactured on december 17, 2007. The child restraint was secured in a 2000 mercury sable. The contact stated when the occupant was positioned in the forward facing convertible child restraint seat, the harness release buckle failed to engage in the unlock mode because the two plastic prongs broke. The contact expressed concern regarding the safety issue and planned to notify the manufacturer of the defect. The failure mileage and vin were unknown.

My child has a sunshine kids juvenile products (now diono) radian xtsl car seat.dom 4/2010.the "cam lock" located at the front/bottom center of the seat and used to adjust the harness straps is now stuck in the up position.as a result, the straps slacken during driving and i am unable to adjust the straps.the problem began occurring intermittently in january and i originally thought it was user error, but i contacted diono.diono asked for a great deal of documentation (incl proof of purchase, which should be irrelevant).i supplied it and never heard back.the problem continued intermittentlyi then contacted them again in june and was told to resupply all of the documentation.the problem has now progressed such that the cam lock is stuck in the up position and the straps either loosen during transit or cannot be adjusted, depending.

We have 2 radian xtsl car seats with a manufacture date of 11/09. The rear facing boot on both seats is failing. The plastic is bent and cracked. We called the manufacturer who is sending us new ones and blamed our installation. We checked the manual and have been installing the seat correctly. The failure is not our fault. We are told the parts are on back order and are waiting for a new part to be able to use our seats safely, in the manner intended.

I purchased a sunshine kids radian xtsl convertible car seat in february, 2010.i just moved my child to a forward facing position, and the super latch lower anchor belt will not stay tightened.the belt loosens up every time i put my son in and take him out of the car seat.it also loosens up when he kicks the seat in front of him, just from the movement.this belt is defective and would not be effective in an accident at all. (related vehicle information: model year=2007, make=mercury, model=milan).

I learned that some users of the super latch belt on the radian 80sl car seat were experiencing loosening of their latch belts during normal use from sunshine kids juvenile product's facebook page. I went to check my own latch belt and found it to be loose. I tightened it up again and found it very easy to loosen the belt by applying slight pressure with my pointer finger in an outward and downward motion. I also pushed the seat side to side to test the buckle and did not find that it loosened the belt, so it appears to require direct contact with the buckle to loosen it. I've checked the belt every time i've gotten in the car since then and have not found it to be loose since the first time. My car seat sits in the rear facing position and my toddler can easily kick the buckle with his foot and loosen it, which could be devastating if we were to experience a collision while the belt happened to be loose. I contacted sunshine kid's customer service, as instructed by their product announcement, and received a replacement super latch belt for my seat today, 6/9/2011. They have added a retaining clip to the buckle, which does seem to make it more difficult to loosen the belt but i can't say that it works in the car because i have not installed the seat with the new belt yet. I have the original belt and would be happy to provide more information if necessary. I only added a vehicle complaint to provide the vin; i have no complaint with the vehicle itself, only the latch belt of my child restraint.(related vehicle information: model year=2009, make=optima, model=kia).

Rear facing 18 month old child is able to wiggle her harness loose.the harness adjuster does not stay pushed down, allowing child to loosen harness when she squirms.one time, this led to her getting both arms out of the harness and turning and standing in her seat when we were on the highway traveling 65mph.

The cam lock mechanism is failing on my son's sunshine kids radian xtsl.after you pull up on the strap to tighten them, the cam lock does not always clamp back down on the strap.this means that the straps can be loosened by just pulling on them.or if the parent doesn't notice,as i did not,the straps can be loosened on the road by a wriggling toddler.i returned the seat to diono and they claimed they could not reproduce the issue,so they returned the seat to me.i am now experiencing the problem about 75% of the times that i tighten the straps.

My child's radian 80sl super-latch comes loose even on short car rides. Once the belt is tightened down it comes loose with normal driving. The car seat is installed correctly and is installed tightly. Also, i can put pressure on the tilt-lock mechanism with one finger and it comes completely loose.(related vehicle information: model year=2010, make=pilot, model=honda).

This is regarding my sunshine kids radian xtsl model number 19500, date of manufacture 12/2010, and serial # 121002393.the problem has occurred two of the three times i have tried installing a child in this seat.the harness straps are becoming loose while my child is in the car.if i pull from the top near her shoulders to make sure the harness it tight, the whole harness loosens up and comes way down.also, the lever on the adjuster is getting stuck open when i tighten.the spring loaded locking mechanism on the harness adjuster has started to randomly disengage, allowing the harness to loosen.i have called sunshine kids and am awaiting a response.

The contact owns a sunshine kids radian xtsl child restraint, manufactured october 1, 2009. The model number was unknown. The child restrain was secured in a 2009 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the latch straps had become loose while the vehicle was being driven. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure yet the child seat was neither repaired nor replaced. The contact stated that the child seat was no longer being used. The failure mileage and vin were unavailable.

I just bought a sunshine kids juvenile products radian xtsl convertible car seat.i had it installed rear-facing by a child passenger safety technician using the superlatch option.the tightening mechanism for the superlatch strap was bumped by my hand when i was sitting in the seat next to the car seat.the superlatch strap became loose and the install was no longer safe.(related vehicle information: model year=2004, make=xc90, model=volvo).

I have 2 diono r100 carseats in my car.i have this issue with them both. I loosen the straps every time i take my children out of the seats.when i tighten them again, the metal clamp that is supposed to dig into the strap and hold it tight rotates so that the teeth are not contacting the belt.i have more than once gotten to my destination and then realized that i could loosen the straps simply by tugging lightly on them, and was horrified to think about what might have happened had i been in an accident.i don't believe this happened when the seats were new.both seats have been in use for a little over a year.after i place my children in the seats, if i realize the teeth on the clamp have not dug into and caught the belt, i can manually rotate the clamp and push the teeth into the belt myself, then pull on the carseat strap on my children's' chest to force the clamp to rotate so it digs more securely into the strap.but i'm really not comfortable that the seat would hold during a crash since the straps loosen up so easily and so often.i don't feel that these seats are safe to use.i think that i should probably throw it out. Cpsc: diono car seat: consumer stated the crotch buckle on the car seat broke, while trying to undo the buckle it would not un-latch. *ssthe consumer had to remove the car seat from the vehicle, unhook the straps on the back, and un-thread the straps from behind to free her daughter. The consumer had to unscrew the back of the crotch buckle and take the entire buckle apart to un-latch it. The plastic piece on the inside of the buckle had snapped off and was preventing it from un-latching. Serial # 111004378 model # us19500.

A 32 pound 3 year old child was able to un-buckle herself from the harness and chest clip three times while the vehicle was in motion while secured in a diono radian r120. She has previously been restrained in a 5 point harness in a different car seat and has neverbeen able to do this before.

I began noticing several months ago that the harness straps on my son's 4yr diono radian rxt would randomly loosen. I analyzed the seat, ensures all straps were threaded correctly. I then realized when trying to adjust the harness for another child that the issue was with the cam lock. The cam lock is intended to drop back down in a locked position. In this case, it is not. I have compared the seat with a newer version of the same seat and it does not have this issue. I can get it to lock with extreme force, but it then is difficult to release to adjust the straps. However, it will gradually work itself loose with the movement and vibrations of the child getting in and out of the seat.so, the independence my 5yr son has with being able to get in his seat alone has been lost. He is not strong enough to tighten the straps and the cam lock in this seat. I contacted diono and they refused to assist in resolving the safety issue. My concern is that it took me quite a while to uncover this issue and my son's safety has been compromised. We are lucky to have a second seat to use and i have ordered a new seat from britax.the correct model is not showing in the menu. This is a radian rxt model: us16900 on the model label.
