I changed my son's cosco alpha omega convertible car seat into a booster seat. I followed the manual directions. The seat has seatbelt guides screwed to each side of the seat. I realized after securing him into the seat a few times that he was truly not secure at all. The seatbelt was not being pulled tight to his body or seat. When he leaned forward the least little bit the seatbelt would loosen and not retract. My seatbelts are not defective. I called cosco to express my concern that the seatbelt did not glide through the belt guides easily and they were preventing the seatbelt from retracting. After discussing it with a customer service rep, that did not seem concerned about this at all, she reluctantly offered to send two different sets of seatbelt guides. However she advised me that she did not think that this would fix the problem. Also, it would take 7 ' 10 days for shipping. I asked for express shipping and i was told that since the seatbelt guide was not a necessary feature that they would not express the parts to me. I asked 'since the seatbelt guides are not necessary should i remove them? would it be safer to not use them?' i was simply told not to remove or add anything to the carseat. To me this was an unacceptable answer. This is a big safety concern and the manufacturer's representative was not interested in helping to ensure my child's safety. Today, i purchased a new booster seat instead of waiting for the other seatbelt guides from cosco. What i have a realized is that the placement of my car's seatbelts, a 2006 hyundai sonata, and the placement of the alpha omega seatbelt guides create a very unsafe situation for a child. The cosco manual has no indication that this booster seat may not work with some vehicle seatbelts. The placement of my car's seatbelts are the same as most newer model cars. Maybe this booster seat should no longer be on the market or it should be clearly indicated what types of seatbelts to use or not to use.
