This is a general complaint and inquiry about car rental companies and infant car seats they provide as well as installation.i have had 3 experiences from 3 different car rental companies where the equipment provided was not complete and i either had to complain until i received the proper equipment or personally purchase my own.one of the cars was a 2003 model which i thought would have the latch system (isn't this required?) but didn't.also, even though i was told when making reservations in all 3 instances that there would be someone who knew how to install the car seat properly, assistance was not provided or the employee admitted they didn't know anything about car seat installation while trying to help.i have heard from other parents that my expereinces are not uncommon.my question is, what responsibility do car rental agencies have regarding car seats, possible recalls, and providing all the equipment for proper/safe installation of car seats they provide?are they required to update this equipment or inspect it to see if it is in working order?if necessary i can provide specifics for 2 of these occurances as i received a partial refund after complaining to the company and i can ask others i've talked to to also provide details of their experiences.please let me know if there is another agency i should contact.

My 2 year old daughter can easily unbuckle her eddie bauer car seat/booster seat's safety harness. This is the top buckle, that goes across her chest. My friend's son, who is 1 and uses the same kind of car seat, can unbuckle his also. This is a serious design flaw. If a child unbuckles the safety belt and a parent has an accident the results could be fatal. Additionally, sometimes the seatbelt buckle seems like it is snapped even when it isn't. There is no locking mechanism or sound or other cue to indicate that the buckle is actually secure. Simply snapping it together does not necessarily mean it is secure.i bought this car seat thinking we could use it to the maximum weight limit, which is 80 lbs. Though our children weigh less than 30 lbs.

We bought a problematic cosco car seat from target, over a year ago.the model number is not on your list of cosco car seats.model # 22206-gth, manufactured on 04/05/2007.like all modern child car seats, the cosco car seat is secured by two latch clips, down behind the bottom of the seat, and also by a tether strap at the top.the tether strap goes over the top of the automobile's seat and then down the back of the seat to a recessed tether point low on the back of the seat.***>>>that tether strap is the problem***<<<. The cosco car seat does not have the proper adjuster on the tether strap.the standard adjuster was replaced with a difficult buckle, with no moving parts.in this degraded design, which saves the manufacturer a few pennies, the tether strap cannot be tightened after it is hooked onto the anchor point. Tugging on the strap does nothing. The user can, with difficulty, change the length of the tether strap before hooking it onto the anchor point. By this means the user may slowly and clumsily get the tether strap about the correct length, if she or he has the time and knowledge to make the complex adjustment. But even a skilled user, with plenty of time, cannot tighten the strap, because the adjuster is missing. The best a person can do is get the tether about the right length, providing some stability for the child car seat, and then hope that is good enough. I feel that this car seat will be unsafe for all but the most careful and experienced user. I have been a licensed child care provider since 1975.(related vehicle information: model year=2003, make=honda, model=pilot)tw*
