At the end of 2017, i purchased a chicco keyfit 30 for my daughter. The seat has since been safely stored inside our home and is in perfect condition. I pulled it out yesterday to prepare for our upcoming child's birth, only to find that the level bubble is blown on both sides of the seat. Upon doing some research, things seems to be an ever growing issue, and mostly with the keyfit bases in particular. I did reach out to chicco to request to purchase a replacement base. I spoke with a cpst who advised me that the base was safe to continue using, even with the blown bubbles. She stated, "yes, it's bigger, but that doesn't mean you can't get it level. It's fine to continue using". This bothers me because a. This is for use with a newborn and b. This is going to be a baby born at 37 weeks due to medical complications that is currently measuring less than 1 percentile. As a cpst myself, i would not feel comfortable advising a caregiver to use a base in which an integral feature is clearly malfunctioning. The level guide is critical for ensuring babies can maintain an open airway. I feel this issue should be addressed. Thank you.

During a car accident on friday jan 6, 2012 the baby carrier separated from the base, and the harnesses securing the child to the carrier released causing a 4 month old baby to be separated from the seat.the baby landed between the front driver and passenger seats, while the carrier continued to bounce around the cabin eventually landing on the front passenger seat.the accident was relatively low speed, with the vehicle traveling approximately 30 mph.

The latch belt on this chicco key fit 30 did not consistently hold tight when the latch belt was tightened.see video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnri6syx_nc - you can notice the belt gets tighter when pulled, but then loosens when the adult releases their hold of the latch belt.this latch belt should only loosen when an adult lifts up on the orange tab.the orange tab was not touched and the belt loosened.

Car accident on october 10th, 2012, during the collision, infant car seat came out of the base. No one was injured, but 8 month old baby in car seat could have been severely injured. Car seat is not being used anymore, complaint was filed with the manufacturer.

When securing the base into the car via the latch system, the button that secures the tether (when pulling the strap tight) got stuck in the popped up/open position and did not lock the strap.required manual manipulation of the button in order to return to the closed/down position and hold the tether.ended up securing the seat via the seat belt. (related vehicle information: model year=2012, make=dodge, model=charger).

In looking at my instructions for the chicco keyfit 30 lilla, i have found that a warning on page 28 is in error. It says "never use newborn insert in the lowest harness position, and only if the child weighs between 4 and 11 pounds (2 and 5 kg)." this makes very little sense, and it appears to be inconsistent with other instructions and also the whole point of the insert. According to the following website, this is a typo, and it should read ?always,? as it does in their other manuals: http://community.babycenter.com/post/a59239387/chicco_keyfit_30_infant_insert_questiongiven the importance of proper installation and fitting, this is a pretty serious mistake. I caught it, as did many others, but i worry about the many people who did not catch it.
