When placing my child in her britax roundabout car seat and pulling her strap tight, the bottom strap that goes between the legs of the 5 point harness broke off. Upon inspection we noticed that the sharp edges on the stamped metal retaining device has, overtime, cut completely through the harness strap rendering the car seat completely ineffective as a restraint device. We were concerned about this safety issue being that the seat is only three years old and we purchased it new from a well known baby/children store. We called britax to inform them of their product's failure and were told that they would send us a replacement part. No care or mention was given to the actual issue that the seat was defective and could have caused fatality had the failure accrued during a collision. Less care was given that there were seats still being used that might have this same defect. After insisting on speaking with a supervisor and submitting pictures of the strap and metal bracket, we were told that the strap looked as if it were tampered with. Not only were we insulted by the accusation but felt that britax was out of line and attempting to not take responsibility for their product's failure which is why we felt it necessary to contact your company.
