Regarding britax decathlon child restrant recall no. 07c-005, i installed the "recall kit," but the straps are still nearly impossible to adjust.when i called britax, they only offered to sell me a new car seat for $125.00.

I purchased 2 britax car seats and we received notice that there was a recall. We followed the instructions that britax indicated to receive a recall kit and we have requested them 5 times and still britax never sent them to us. I do not feel comfortable having my child in a recalled seat and britax has done nothing to fix it knowing we have these defective seats. I then called the last time and the customer service rep stated she would be sending me two brand new britax seats and i never received those either. I just don't want to drive around with recalled seats and britax is doing nothing to fix the problem.

Buckle on tether apparatus broke. I noticed it when i had to uninstall. There was no trauma or misuse. The plastic just cracked.

Attempted to fasten child into car seat and the area where the crotch strap attaches to the seat broke off.

I am writing to report a defect in the britax decathlon car seat lower latch system.the belt on my system is twisted and will not perform properly in a crash.i have notified britax and they sent me a replacement belt but without any instructions and have not issued a recall.i am concerned about all the other car seats on the road and the children who are at risk of serious injury.a representative from the pa traffic injury prevention project (tipp) at the pa chapter of the american academy of pediatrics inspected the car seat on tuesday october 26, 2010 and found that ?the lower anchor attachment is backwards on one side and cannot be used correctly to install child seat using lower anchors.?her name is [xxx] and she can be reached at [xxx].she said that it was a manufacturing defect andthe seats should be recalled.the identifiers for the car seat are:date of mfg: 04-05-2007make decathlonmodel e9l 4769serial number e9l4769017324batch number j00088948purchased from babyuniverse.com in may 2007my contact at britax is [xxx]consumer service managerbritax [xxx]13501 south ridge drivecharlotte nc [email protected](related vehicle information: model year=2006, make=toyota, model=highlander). Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a britax e9l4790 (decathlon) child seat.the seat was manufactured on august 18, 2007.the contact went to a child seat inspection station and was informed that the seat would not lock in an upright or recline position.the seat would remain stuck in the middle.the child seat is a rearfacing convertible seat, but the contact now wants it to face forward.the contact was informed not to use the seat because it was unsafe and was advised to call the manufacturer for further assistance. Updated 3/16/09 updated 03/19/09.

My child's britax decathlon car seat, which was manufactured in 12/06, and which we started using in 3/07, no longer buckles. The latch goes into the buckle all the way on one side, but does not click or lock into place. The other side of the latch locks fine. I noticed it this weekend when i thought my child was securely buckled -- and then i saw that his harness was half undone. I am going to disassemble the seat and put the manufacturer's recommendation for washing the buckle in place. The manufacturer is also replacing the buckle.

On several occasions, including today, the harness buckle has come unfastened during normal driving after i secured my son in his seat.the buckle on his seat requires that you hear an audible click once the second buckle tongue is inserted.sometimes the click is loud, other times it is very faint.on more than one occasion, his harness has unbuckled even after being properly secured during normal driving (audible click confirmed).i am a child passenger safety technician and my kids have been taught the importance of staying in their seats.under no circumstance would my child unbuckle himself, nor is he able to unbuckle himself in this particular seat as of yet, so i know it is not due to occupant behavior.i know of several other parents who have had the same issue with their buckle on britax marathon and britax decathlon seats, which led me to report it.britax keeps telling us to soak the buckle overnight in water to fix the problem (it hasn't fixed it).my buckle isn't dirty.it just doesn't stay latched, even during normal driving, leading me to question how it might perform during a crash.i am concerned that my son's safety may be in jeopardy.

The harness adjuster in my britax decathlon was so tight it was nearly impossible to loosen or tighten the harness.in the process of trying to tighten the harness, the adjuster button popped loose at least twice on different occasions.this made it impossible to loosen the harness without trying to replace the button first.i contacted britax who had me send back the decathlon.it was still under warranty.they replaced the adjuster, adjuster strap, and housing, as well as the car seat's base.

The harness tensioner/release mechanism inthe britax decathlon convertible car seat completely separated from the hard plastic seat shell.over the course of 8 months of use the belts got progressively harder to adjust.you had to pull on them extremely hard to tighten them ,and they would not release easily when the button was pushed.i was not strong enough to adjust them by myself - only my husband was able to do it.finally, one evening while he was trying to secure our daughter in the car seat he had to pull so hard on the harness to tighten it that the tensioner/release mechanism completely separated from the seat.britax replaced the seat with a new decathlon, but it exhibited the same problemwith difficulty to tighten/release the harness.we returned the replacement seat before it had the opportunity to break in the same fashion.they finally replaced it with a completely different model marathon that has no problems.however, this model has a lower retail value than the decathlon, which is disappointing.

Regarding britax decathlon child restrant recall no. 07c-005, i installed the "recall kit," but the straps are still nearly impossible to adjust.when i called britax, they only offered to sell me a new car seat for $125.00.

While trying to adjust the harness on the decathlon car seat the entire housing for the strap broke and popped out.

I had buckled my 14 month old into her car seat and was tightening the belt (removing slack) when the entire housing that allows you to tighten and release the belt pulled out of the car seat.i could therefore not secure my daughter in the seat because there was no way to securely fasten her with this housing mechanism pulled out.we had to drive home with this defective car seat.we have now sent it back to the manufacturer and are awaiting there decision on replacement.in the mean time we are left with no safe car seat to use as the only available temporary replacement is our sons old seat which is more than 5yrs old.

When pulling on the belt to tighten the straps on our britax decathalon, the harness adjuster broke and pulled completely out of the unit.the harness adjuster was then no longer usable.we contacted britax, who offered to repair the seat free-of-charge, however we do not feel that this seat is safe so we will no longer use it, repaired or not.if the harness adjuster can break simply by tightening the straps, what would a vehicle crash do to the seat?

The contact owns a 2006 britax e9l4741-decathlon (na) safety seat.while tightening the webbing across the toddlers chest, the harness and harness housing separated completely from the seat.the contact secured the child the best that she could and drove to the fire department.the fire department stated that the failure appeared to be a manufacturing defect and advised her to get another safety seat.she stated that she had a second seat at her residence.the fire department was able to secure the seat until the contact arrived home.they also advised her to never place the child in the defective seat again.she attempted to notify britax, but was unsuccessful.the serial number of the safety seat was e9l4741028892 and the batch number was j000005582.

I have a britax decathlon car seat purchased in 2006.it has been used for about one month, as my daughter is only 3 months old.the harness had been difficult to tighten, but not impossible.today, when i pulled on it to tighten one of the small plastic clips holding the adjustment assembly broke, which made the seat unusable.the entire black plastic adjuster is no longer attached to the shell of the seat and it wasimpossible to tighten the belts enough to use the seat.

I purchased a britax decathlon car seat for my child.my child is approx. 15 pounds and approx 24-25" long.this car seat is classified as appropriate for any child 5 pounds to 65 pounds and at least 19 inches long.i put my child into the seat and neither the shoulder nor waist straps were able to fit him properly.for rear facing, the instruction manual states that the straps must be at or below the shoulders to properly restrain the child.the straps were located at least an inch above my child's shoulders in the lowest slot.also, the waist straps were cutting into my child's thighs, and neither the shoulder nor the waist straps would tighten sufficiently.how could this car seat possibly fit a 5 pound, 19" long child, if it won't even fit my 15 pound, 25 inch long child?i consider this a very big safety concern and returned the car seat.i plan on calling britax to report this problem as soon as i can.

The contact owns a britax decathlon child restraint, model number: e9l47a0, and serial number: e9l47a0010554. The child restrain was manufactured august 22, 2006. The contact stated that the manufacturing kit was received under nhtsa campaign id number: 07c005000 but the kit did not correct the failure. Instead, the plastic adjuster that was sent with the kit shredded the harness. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Updated 01/05/12

Britax decathlon child restraint seat recall repair.customer states she has two seats from britax that may be affected. She says the harness are getting loose around her kids and britax has sent them nothing.

I bought a britax decathlon in march 2006 for my then 7 month old son. Since i purchased it, the harness adjuster has been extremely difficult to adjust properly (to adequate tightness). Now that he is forward facing, i cannot tighten it enough for safety. Britax is replacing the seat with a marathon.

This is for the britax decathlon, but there was no section to choose for it. While trying to tighten the straps, the entire black piece with the button came off of the seat. This is the second seat that we own that this has happened. First one broke about 2 months ago. For first seat, britax was contacted and seat was returned for repair. It was sent back and piece is back in place. Second seat is currently being sent out for repair. As this has happened with both of our seats it appears to be a manufacturing problem.
