We are having problems installing the britax marathon carseat (manufacture date nov 2006) with the rear installation using a lapbelt or shoulderlap belt (we don't have latch).our car is a 1998 nissan altima.1) with the lapbelt, we can't close the rear "lock-offs" unless thelapbelt is totally flat inside the lockoff, but then the belt is not tight and the child seat is not secure. If we try to tighten the belt properly, the lapbelt seems to get bunched up inside the lockoff, and we can't close the lockoff. This happens in every position we try to install the marathon carseat.2) the buckle of the middle lapbelt hits the lockoff mechanism and we can't tighten the belt any further, and the belt is too loose.3) we also have difficulty putting both sections of the belt through the lockoff if we are using a shoulder belt, and are unable to close the rear lockoff.

Our britax marathon has foam lining in it that is falling apart. Even though this was a high dollar car seat we have been unable to use if for our second child since the foam has come out. We rarely moved this seat and it has never been in an accident. We are disappointed in a seat that came so highly rated.

Britax marathon seat would not stand up right. Plastic bar would not clip over metal bar to sit it in upright position.

Iwould like to place a complaint about the gen3 seatbelts.i just read an article on the possible danger that these belts pose.we have a 2002 dodge caravan and a 2004 chrysler town & country and it's very upsetting that daimler chrysler is not taking action.

I have a new britax marathon car seat (manufactured 01/10/07) and the rear-facing lockoffs do not work. They pop open constantly.i wil be calling britax to request replacements.

Britax marathone9l09ds. Consumer states that rear facing lock off clips do not hold. When pressure is applied the clips pop off with or without a seatbelt inside of it. *mc

I found bolt and washer on the rear seat. On removing the britax marathon 70 convertible child seat i discovered the base swinging loose. The nut was in the folds of the seat cover. Ti cannot find the corresponding nut and bolt from the other side. The seat now pivots forward from the base. An internet search revealed a blog where many others had the same problem.

I have a britax marathon.the straps can be loosened simply by tugging on them.my 3 1/2 year old daughter was able to loosen them by pushing on them while restrained.i then tightened them, and pulled on them, and they loosened.

I was driving in my car with my 2 year old in the back seat buckled into his britax marathon car seat. As i was driving my son lifted the flap that covers the harness adjuster lever, pressed the lever down and leaned forward to loosen his safety straps. After loosening the straps he proceeded to pull his arms out of the straps. At this point his upper body was completely exposed, no longer being contained by the straps. He has done this several times while i am driving and it is very unsafe. I have almost been in a few accidents trying to keep my son in his seat while driving. I attempted to pin the flap cover down with safety pins, but was worried that in an emergency i would not be able to get him out of his car seat. I paid $270 for this car seat and am very disappointed that it has such a major safety flaw.britax offers a plastic cover for the lever which makes it inoperable. This defeats the purpose as you can not loosen the straps in an emergency. Very disappointed and upset in what was suppose to be on of the safest car seats available.

I just purchased a britax marathon carseat from babies r us in wappingers falls/poughkeepsie ny. When i got the seat home i opened the box and was getting ready to set it up to fit my 6 month old son and put it in my car. It is at this time that i noticed the "latch" belts were missing. I am not sure if it is just this seat, i plan to take it back to get another one monday, or if all the ones at the store have this problem.i own another one of this exact seat for my 2.5 year old and this is how i caught the problem. I have not heard of any recalls, but would like to make you aware of this. These straps are sewn onto the seat and therefore it is not just that someone removed them from the box. I hope that there are not other people out there using this seat without the proper latches. As i was looking for the information on the seat, i was unable to find the model number, and the exact date of manufacturing. It just say on the box (not the seat) august 2008. The seat is the britax marathon platinum.if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.(related vehicle information: model year=2006, make=honda, model=odyssey).

Latch strap routed around lap portion of harness straps.lap portion of the harness webbing was through the fixed loop on the latch attachment webbing.seat new out of the box.

Received brand new car seat and the base has a huge piece broken off.

I am a child passenger safety technician and during the past several months, i've installed/inspected several britax marathon seats that have a problem with the rear facing locking clips. When installing the seat with the required amount of tension the vehicle's seat belt, the locking clip closest to the buckle will not stay locked.

I have a britax marathon that i am currently using rear facing with a 27 lb 3 year old. My vehicle does not have locking seat belts therefore i utilized the rear facing lock offs on my marathon. When i put my daughter in her seat the lock off pops open every single time. I have to strap my daughter in and readjust the seat belt and reconnect the lock off. The failure makes the carseat unsafe as it is rocking and sliding in the seat because the seat belt is no longer tight. It no longer has a rock solid install.i have not yet contacted britax as i live overseas and the time change has made it difficult.

Britax marathon 70 car seat partially detached from base which manufacturer stated should not happen under any circumstances.

Britax marathon convertible child safety seat can be easily loosened by my 2 year old.the harness adjuster lever is too close to the child. I have tightened the straps very tight and all he has to do is reach his arm forward and pull the harness adjuster lever and with the strain on the straps, the straps completely loosen instantly!

The britax marathon safety seats have a safety strap release mechanism that is too easy for children to operate.to release (loosen) the safety strap, one lifts up on a metal lever between the child's legs on the lower front part of the seat.the lever is covered by fabric that is secured with velcro, but the cover is easy to remove and the lever is easily operable even by weak little fingers.the roundabout seats require that a button be pushed to loosen the safety harness, which is much safer and (thankfully) not yet something my toddlers are strong enough to operate. Quickly and easily loosening the straps on their marathon seats is no problem, however.overall, i have nothing but high praise for the britax seats, but this one feature could be really dangerous, if other parents weren't aware of how easily their children can loosen the marathon harnesses.

Re: britaz marathon cut my daughter.*sc

The contact owns a britax marathon e9l0636 child seat.the seat was manufactured on january 13, 2003. The child seat had a velcro flap so the contact could reach the adjustment strap.the velcro flap is so high that her child can reach the flap and loosen the adjustment strap while in the seat.this allows the child to possibly remove himself from the child seat while the vehicle is being driven.the manufacturer has not been notified.the contact previously replaced the adjustment strap because the original one had been removed and replaced due to a recall.updated 09/13/08.*ljthe consumers son was able to remove his arms from the sear when the strap was loose. Updated 09/17/08.

Dt*: the contact stated the child safety seat buckle between the legs did not always fasten into place.also, the tether strap loosened during a minor collision.the manufacturer was not contacted.this was a britax marathon, manufactured april 28, 2006.

My daughter who is 21 months was able to lift the velcro flap of her seat and gain access to the metal lever that you lift to loosen the straps of her harness.upon lifting the lever she is able to lean forward - which loosens her straps.the flap panel needs to not be accessible to the child or the lever should be pushed down to prevent the child from being able to loosen harness.upon calling britax regarding this issue - the customer service agent seemed fully aware of this problem and immediately told me about a "training tool" that she could send me to remedy this problem.i had searched the internet and their site for this problem and the training tool and found nothing.i am concerned that other parents have this seat and not the training tool.the first time a child figures this out - could be a fatal mistake where a parent doesn't have a chance to rectify the situation.i think britax should make this a public service announcement and all registered owners should be able to receive this training tool for free - so that there is no worry of a child figuring this out and the seat isn't just called one of the safest - but is one of the safest seats.parents have no idea of this risk until their child does this like my daughter did - but i don't want someone to have their child injured when they figure it out.not only could a child escape the car seat while driving down the road and create an unsafe situation - in an impact the seat would no longer be restraining the child.this needs greater public attention.thank you!

I have a britax marathon car seat manufactured in june, 2004.today for the first time i attempted to lock it in the full upright position, but was unable to do so.the locking mechanism has failed, despite never being used.i called the manufacturer and was told i need to send in the seat for repair, so i will be without the seat for about 2 weeks.i called the maryland safe kids program trying to locate a loaner seat, and the first question the lady asked was, "is this a britax marathon?"obviously mine is not an isolated incident.i do not know if this is a safety issue, but it certainly is a functionality issue, and since all children over 33 pounds must use the seat in the full upright position it limits its utility pending repair.how many people may choose to not have the repair done and use it in an unsafe manner due to the difficulty in having the item repaired?i called the manufacturer back and asked if they would send a replacement, and i would use their shipping box to return the defective seat.they refused.it appears there is a manufacturing issue that should be addressed to ensure the seat will be used safely.

I have a britax marathon.dom 2/7/06.the base is cracked and britax refuses to replace it.

Nhtsa recall 04c002000 concerninglock webbing slippage. No parts were available.

The instructions sticker on the side of the britax marathon reversible child seat clearly states "the american academy of pediatrics recommends forward facing until at least 1 year of age and 20 pounds."this is clearly wrong!!!!babies should be backwards facing until 1 year of age.if buyers use this as a guide, they are putting their child in danger!!!

My britax marathon car seat (dom 1-28-05) has a sticker that states "the american academy of pediatrics recommends forward facing until at least one year of age and 20 pounds (9kg)."this is incorrect as it should say rear facing instead of forward facing.

I was cleaning my britax marathon convertible and i noticed that the sticker on the side of the shell contains an error.it states, " the american academy of pediatrics recommends forward facing until at least 1 year of age and 20 pounds (9kg)."this obviously should say at bare minimum "rear facing" instead of "forward facing."or, even more correctly, the actual aap statement that states that children are safest remaining rear facing until they outgrow the rear facing limits of the seat.i know many parents skim over the instruction manuals and get their information/instructions from the stickers on the restraint itself.i would also imagine that most parents would expect a well-known manufacturer of higher-end child restraints like britax to give them correct and safe information.

Harness canbe tightened, but it cannot be loosened.

Both rubber shoulder pads on my daughters harness broke in two on the same day. After searching through the britax user manual that accompanied this seat, i couldn't find any indication that these pads where needed for or what their purpose was.after calling britax, i was told that the pads were essential to the operation of the seat and not to use the seat without them.i asked if they were so important why they broke on the same day and also why this the importance of their use wasn't mentioned in the user guide.britax told me that they usually break after about 2 years which is how old my seat is.i asked britax why they didn't communicate this to customers or even better include extras with the initial seat especially since the seat is suited for weights 5 lbs - 65 lbs and therefore longer than 2 years of use.the britax rep couldn't answer this.the replacement straps were free but i had to pay expedited shipping to get them to me in a shorter time frame than 1 week.considering i was instructed not to use the seat until i had replacements, this wasn't much of a choice.

Britax rear facing lock off's.i am a certified cps instructor. Countless times i have run across britax seats (specifically the marathon and boulevard) with rear facing lock offs that will not stay locked due to the angle the lock offs are positioned or in some cases the thickness of the seat belt webbing. The only solution i have come up to keep these seats locked into the vehicle at a correct angle is to use a locking clip instead of the lock off. I was told by manufacturer today (britax) to never to use a locking clip on these seats because it would be considered a misuse. These seats are unsafe to use in the rear facing position in most vehicles because the lock off will not stay locked and there is no other way to keep the seat locked in place at a correct angle.

The contact owns a britax marathon child seat.the contact stated that the labels on the child seat recommended it face forward until 1 year of age and 20 pounds.the contact felt that the label should state rear facing up to 1 year old and 20 pounds.the manufacturer stated that they would forward the information to a manager.as of december 13, 2007, the manufacturer had not corrected the labels.the failure type was not applicable.updated 3/4/08

I recently participated as a tech at a check up event. I ran into a problem when i was trying to install a britax marathon rear facing. The rear facing lock offs would not stay locked. To my knowledge britax advises against the use of a locking clip whenthere are lock offs, and with the enclosed belt path i was unable to use the retractor as the locking mechanism. The parent was very frustrated that they had invested so much money in a seat that did not function properly.

Britax marathon rf convertible seat.built in locking clips will not hold seat in place.manufacturer called, instructed that one clip on either side could be used to hold in place.same problem encountered byboth sides. Parent instructed to return seats .

Page 30 of the manual states:"important: once the top slots become necessary, the child may continue to use the restraint until the top of the ears become level with the top of the restraint shell or child's weight exceeds 65 pounds (29.5 kg)."my child weighs 55 lb. Her ears are at least 1" below the top of the seat back. Her shoulders are above the top slots. According to the manual, she can continue using the seat until she weighs 65 lb or the tips of her ears become even with the top of the seat. Some other parents online informed me that this is incorrect, so i called britax.a customer service representative, heather, said it was outgrown if the top of the ears above the seat back or the shoulders above the top slots or the weight limit exceeded. I directed her to page 30 and read the passage aloud to her. Then, she read the passage aloud to me. Then she said that it was "misleading" and that if the child's shoulders were above the slots, there was a risk of "compression" in a crash.if the manual is wrong in a way that could lead to injury, it should definitely be recalled. No recalls have been issued on this topic for this seat, and the most recent edition of the manual (found online at britaxusa.com) contains the exact same wording. Indeed, the only reason i had to call for clarification is that other parents told me that the manual was wrong.

The contact owns a 2007 britax marathon child seat, model e9l06b9.the seat was manufactured on february 26, 2007.the contact stated that the retainer positioning clip on the front portion of the harness slides up and down.as a consequence, a child is able to manipulate the retainer clip in a position that would allow the child to move his or her arms or exit the seat.this increases the risk of serious injury if the child is not positioned properly in the child safety seat.the child is two and a half years old and weighs approximately 20 lbs.the manufacturer did not assist.the contact still has possession of the safety seat.the purchase date and failure type were unknown.

The contact owns a britax marathon e9l06.in february 2005 the contact received a recall notice for both of the seats he owns.the manufacturer stated that those included in the recall would receive a free replacement kit to repair the failure.the contact spoke with the manufacturer twice, and has yet to receive the kits.the contact felt that the kits wereunacceptable because the seats were very expensive.presently, the contact has still not received the kits.

I have a 2007 britax marathon,my daughter is now 2 yrs old and can get herself out of the seat within 5 minutes flat.she can get her arms out of the top of the seat, the straps.otherwise, this seat would be great.this is a potential danger for allchildren riding the britax marathon.i was on rt 9,forked river when i looked at my child and she was now standing on the carseat.needless to say,i pulled right over and tightened the strap as tight as i can get it.i get home, take the seat out,and check out the back to make sure its harness correctly.it is harnessed correctly.there is nothing on my side wrong, its installed right, the harness is correct, and the slot is correct.there is a faulty issue with this carseat.i bought it at www.albeebaby.com when my daughter was 1 yr old.she was born in 2006.this is a 2007 model, britax marathon in the erin print.not sure if this information helps.i did not contact britax yet,for i am told that many parents are also having this problem and britax is not doing anything about it.i paid top dollar for a top seat and this is for my daughters safety, only to go one year into this adventure with her standing on the seat.very dangerous.thank god we did not crash that day.if something were to happen to her,i would solely blame britax for her flying out of a seat that i bought to ensure her safety.please pass this information on,for other parents to know. I am hoping britax does something to remedy this situation.thank you. Nancy boutilette

The recline mechanism on my two year old britax marathon is broken and the seat will not lock into the forward-facing upright position.

Car seatbritax marathonmodel e9l0605serial e9l06057636, manufacture date 03-17-03,batch 5603780.called britax customer service, 1-704-409-1700, #2,cust svc rep debrahild can release the harness lock (open and remove the restraining belts) and the mechanism to loosen the straps unassisted.obviously, this results in the child not being safely secured.

I am an experiencedcpst in baton rouge louisiana. On 7-30-08 i assisted a mother with the installation of a new britax marathon (camo pattern cover) using the latch system.mother indicated she had just received the seat and it had been back-ordered for some time. When i pulled back the seat cover to access the stored latch attachments....i noted that the attachments were stored in a manner that might lead to misuse. The attachments were routed to the inside of the harness before being placed in the recessed storage compartment (in the shell toward the back of the seat). The problem....unless a parent lifts the seat cover all the way to visualize the ? misrouting of the stored connectors...entanglement of the harness could easily occur when theattachments are removed from the storage compartment and pulled through the rf belt path path openings in the shell.i have contacted the client to ask for batch number and serial # on the product but the home phone seems connected to a fax.information i do have:britax marathonmodel # e9l0668mfg 07/09/2008fabric cover...camo patterni did speak with a britax representative (chris) on 8-6-08 to report my concerns.i gave him the model # and mfg date.he did not request any identifying information or contact information from me for follow-up. I am always somewhat concerned when no follow-up name / number is requested on a concern i have registered with a manufacturer.(related vehicle information: model year=2003, make=chevy , model=silverado).

Cpsc#i12a0401a. Britax marathon. Consumer stated the lock failed to hold the seat into the car. *lnthe consumer stated she installed the car seat using the built-in seat belt lock off. After several days, she noticed the seat rear tether needed to be adjusted. When she checked the seat, she discovered the car's seat belt slipped through the built in lock off. The lock off failed to hold the seat into the car. The car's belt had mark on it, from where the lock off was not able to hold onto it and let go. She reinstalled the seat using the locking mechanism of the belt. But, when she arrived at her destination, it failed again. The manufacturer stated the part was known as a wear and tear item. However, the consumer stated it was her first time using it for more than a day.serial # e9i0634030317

Recall on britax marathon car seat - was advised that i will receive replacement kit within 2-3 weeks back in august 2004 - its been over 2 months and still have nothing from the manufacturer.i had called and updated my address with them as well - when i called today they still have old address on file.

My two-year old can loose the harness straps on his britax marathon car seat. He does this regularly and we are now looking into another car seat even though this is the most expensive and highest rated car seat currently available.

Bought a britax marathon xe e9lr31a batch: job0005290 manufactured 03/2014. I attached the car seat per the directions on the manual (rear facing) to the rear captain seat of my 2008 toyota sequoia. I used the versa tether located on the rear of the car seat to make the car seat more secure and secured the remaining portion with the tether. The remaining tether portion eventually became loose and unknowingly became lodged in the right rear door with the end sticking outside of the door. While driving on a city street i heard a sound from the right rear of the vehicle and immediately pulled over at which time the tether got caught underneath the right rear tire and pulled the car seat (with my son in it) towards the door and almost physically hurt my son and almost damaged the captain seat of my vehicle. Fortunately my son was only scared by the situation and no physical harm was done to him. The captain seat of the vehicle was saved by the seat protector that has an extreme indention on it from the force that was applied by the wheel catching the tether. There are also marks in the paint and scratches on the lower end of the right rear door where the tether was lodged. The versa tether on the rear of the seat is dangerously long and i would suggest some sort of feature to reduce the length with something besides the elastic strap or provide separate sizes.(related vehicle information: model year=2008, make=toyota, model=sequoia).

This is a complaint about britax carseats.i have two of them -- a roundabout and a marathon.i returned the card included with the seat to register the seat and get information in case of recalls.britax now tells me they have no records of me or my seats.they issued a recall of the marathon on august 8th 2004.i phoned that day and every day several times for about a week until i could reach a person.i gave the details of my childseat (product and batch # etc).they said a package would be in the mail to me by the end of the month (august).i phoned again the week later -- they took my details again but this time said they did not need the product number for the childseat.again they said the replacement would be in the mail by the end of the week.when i had received nothing, i called towards the end of september.they said they had no record of me either from the product registration or from previous calls.i gave all information again and they said it would be in the mail at the end of october.i called again in mid october and was told the package would be in the mail at the end of that week.still i have received nothing.my child has been driving around for nearly three months in a recalled seat.i cannot believe this is responsible behaviour from britax.can you investigate?

The seat doesn't lock in the upright mode which is required for use in the forward facing position.when we first bought the seat 2 years ago it did lock in the upright mode but its been in the rear-facing mode until recently so it has always been in the recline position.when we moved it to forward facing, we cannot get it to lock in upright position.i notice other people have filed a similar complaint.we are still using seat in forward facing position as we are able to get a very tight fit in our car so that the seat will stay upright just by the tension created with the latch and tether but i 'm concerned what would happen in a crash.i think britax should replace or repair the seat due to this defect.i also want to note this is my 2nd complaint on marathon.i was one of the first to file a complaint concerning the ease at which a child can loosen the harness adjuster due to its location (right between his legs) and how easy it is to operate - lift lever and lean forward.my son has been able to loosen the straps while i'm driving & completely free his arms from the seat.once, he almost climbed completely out of the seat!since my original complaint, i have noted numerous similar complaints have been filed by other consumers.when i initially contact britax about this serious design flaw their response was its the parents responsibility to teach a child "no" and watch him all the time!this "fix" is even on the britax website!how can you watch your child 100% of the time when you're driving?i believe it is the car seat manufacturer's responsibility to design a car seat that any 1 1/2 to 2 year old cannot easily release himself.a parent would be better off watching the road than checking every 5 seconds to see if their child is still strapped in.i cannot believe this issue is still on-going and no investigation or recall is in progress.

Dt: the contact stated the adjustment strap to the harness was too easily accessible to the child in the safety seat, allowing the harness straps to be loosened.the base was also cracked. The manufacturer was contacted. Manufacturer: britax, model: marathon, model #: e9l0677.

I cannot pull the restraint tight enough on my britax marathon with the floating hugs attached. They make it very difficult to get the restraint tight at all, and i feel my child could come out of the seat in a collision.

Nhtsa recall 04c002000 on the a-lock webbing slippage.no parts were available.

Upon removing the cover on my britax marathon 70 (model #e9lb12u - i am providing the model number as it is not in the drop down list on this site) child restraint, i noticed a screw sitting in the bottom of the seat, under the cover.after looking over the seat, i noticed where there was a screw missing from the side of the seat, where the base would attach.the seat was only7 months old and i did purchase it new. I do have photographs of the screw that fell out as well as the seat and where the screw normally is.i am a cpst and after describing the problem on car-seat.org, i learned that others have had the same problem.from what they were told by britax, the screws are supposed to be loose to aid in reclining the seat, but they should not have come out completely.this is the first time i have had this happen and i am concerned as to how this could happen because this seat has not been removed from my vehicle except when i have cleaned it or my vehicle seat.this seat is also only used about 4-6 times per month, when i am caring for my godchildren or grandchildren.it is not used daily.i contacted britax and was immediately sent a replacement seat.i will be monitoring the new seat very closely.

My toddler can now reach the lever that loosens the harness straps on her britax marathon car seat. She can now loosen the straps while we're driving which has caused an unsafe driving situation.fortunately, she does not do it all of the time. However, if she had loosened the straps and we were in a car accident my toddler would not be secure in her car seat. We are using our other car seat as much as possible. The car seat was not sold with a fix. When i contacted britax, they indicated that they had a fix which they could ship to me within 10 business days. I was surprised that 1) the car seat wasn't sold with the fix and that 2)britax is willing to assume the liability for 10 days.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 5 mph, the child was observed unlatching the lever and loosening the entire harness.the system used to secure the seat was a lap belt combination for a forward facing child seat.the contact alerted the manufacturer, but no resolution was provided.make: britax, model: marathon, model#e9l0627, dom: 05/12/05, updated 10/18/2006 -the consumer's 21 month old child pulled back on the strap which caused the harness release lever to be depressed.the child's weight against the harness released the harness.

The adjustment lever was within reach of the child's hands. *mr the manufacturer suggested that there was nothing they could do.the consumer had to stitch the cover down which was also suggested by the manufacturer.the straps were completely pulled out as far as they could go.(the adjustment lever was in the reach of the child in which he loosens the straps)child seat model # e9l0605 *sc

My britax marathon car seat does not lock in the upright position.i discovered this when installing a friend's car seat - i was unaware that the seat would not lock.i contacted britax usa who informed me that the car seat was unsafe to use if it did not lock, however my warranty had expired and they would do nothing. They will not even look at my car seat to determine why it is defective.i am certain i cannot be the only consumer who has a defective seat.the following information is from my car seat:restraint model:e9w0605serial # e9w0605035480manufactured on:feb. 07, 2005batch #: 507422

Britax marathon clicktight child restraint seat broke without clear cause. Was installed rearfacing, no collision, no consumer force. The clicktight mechanism was tilted and the metal springs were fully detached from the bars that turn to release the seat during installation. In a collision, the child would have been ejected with the seat.

Consumer has a britax marathon child safety seat which has been recalled by the manufacturer. Consumer has been trying since mid october to get the repair kit for the recall. Consumer became frustrated and felt that she was getting the run around.

Four weeks ago consumer received recall letter on the marathonregarding the adjuster strap.manufacturer still did not havetheparts available to conduct the recall. Manufacturerwas contacted, and they indicated that the consumer should wait.

I own a britax marathon car seat (model #e9w0605) and my 20 month old child is able to loosen the 5 point harness by lifting up the velcro cover and pulling on the release latch underneath. My child was able to pull his arms out from under the harness and was no longer secured.i called the manufacturer and they said that this is a function of the seat and there is nothing they can do.this is a serious safety issue and a child can be seriously injured if this is not corrected.what makes matters worse is that i see dozens of this same complaint listed on the nhtsa web site and it appears that nothing has been done to correct this problem.does a child have to die before the manufacturer is forced to correct the problem?

Britax had not responded to recall.child seat harness will not tighten, need repair kit.britax have not providerepair kit.*sc

Very sharp edges on the child's seat buckle was causing scratches on the child. *mr *scmodel#e9l0636.

Britax marathon convertible child safety seat harness can be loosened by my 20 month old child.even though he is tightly strapped in, he can very easily reach the harness release with his fingers, lift it up, and with his weight pulling forward on the straps it causes the harness to loosen.i called britax who informed me they had no solution for this problem and referred me to internet sites on how to deal with children who can get out of their safety seats.

Britax marathon car seat:sn# e9l06b9019062model# e9l06b9batch# j000002467date of manufacture: 01/24/06the right side harness comes loose from the buckle when pulled hard if the right side is buckled in before the left side. The left side does not have a problem. If the left side is buckled first neither side comes loose if pulled hard. The harness and buckle have been cleaned thoroughly, this makes no difference.this pulling loose is new behavior, but the right side harness has never worked quite right. From the day it was purchased, if the left side of the harness was inserted first, both the left and right side would make an audible clicking noise. If the right side was inserted first, it never made a clicking noise. This concerned me, but when i pulled very hard on the harness it did not come loose from the buckle.this is no longer the case. The right side always pulls loose if it is buckled first. Sometimes it just falls out, other times it requires a hard tug, but it always comes loose. Based on the consisently strange behavior i would guess that this is a manufacturing flaw, not a wear issue.the consequences of this failure would be ejection of the child from the car seat in a crash, most likely resulting in death. I have purchased a new buckle and harness set from britax to replace the defective units.

Britax marathon #e9l06 is currently being recalled by the manufacturer. Owner has registered the car seat and for several months has been trying to get the manufacturer to send the parts needed for the defective child safety seat. The manufacturer is very slow sending out these parts.the consumer received the part.(three months later) *sc

- the contact called regarding a britax marathon safety seat, model # p237000, manufacturedin 02/05.the contact had the seat inspected by a safety seat technician, and the seat would not fit properly in the base of the seat.the technician did not feel as though the seat was safe and would not install it.the technician gave the contact a safety seat.

Dt: the contact stated the adjustment strap to the harness was too easily accessible to the child in the safety seat, allowing the harness straps to be loosened.the base was also cracked. The manufacturer was contacted. Manufacturer: britax, model: marathon, model #: e9l0677.

Regarding a britax marathon car seat. Serial #e9lo6774840manufactured on november 18,2003.after only 6 months of use with an infant, under 20 lbs, the plastic base is cracked and broken.contacted britax who will only repair damage once car seat is sent to them in n.c. Britax will not accommodate consumers who do not have another seat for their child in the meantime. Britax states it is the consumers responsibility to obtain another seat, even though their product is defective. Britax customer service management also stated the broken base will not affect the safety of the seat. I am trying to get that in writing from britax. However management could not say at what point the seat would be unsafe if the base continues to break. I feel since the seat is still under the 1 year warranty britax should replace a broken car seat, not repair. Also not inconvenience the consumer making it their problem to buy another seat in the meantime when you have already paid top dollar for the britax in the first place. Britax is knowingly condoning the use of a broken car seat to their customers.

I noticed from the beginning, when i bought the carseat, that when i put the buckle on, one side didn't click (although when tugging hard on it, it didn't budge). For the past month or two, i've notcied a couple alarming things about our car seat, which are leading us to buy another one. When i adjust the shoulder straps after my son is buckled in (the new strap that we received after the recall), even when i pull on the strap, it doesn't always adjust, and sometimes when it does tighten, when i pull on the chest strap area to check it, it loosens again. The other thing i noticed is that i decided, after researching more, to turn my son's car seat rear facing again (he's almost three). When i tried to use the lock offs (which ahve never been used), i noticed that both sides do not stay locked. When you puch them down, they come open again...even if the seat belt is not in the lock off.

The strap has not been received for the nhtsa recall 04c002000.

My 18 month old can easily reach the strap adjuster (between his legs) and completely loosen his car seat strap.britax says they are aware of the problem but cannot do anything about it.this is very very dangerous.other seats have this lever much lower and out of reach.

We bought the britax marathon car seat for my son in august 2004 and the chp would not install it due to the recall (which the store didn't tell us about at the time of purchase) i took it back to the store, they said a britax representative had already updated and "fixed" my seat and assured me that my seat was fine.they pointed to the new grey stickers covering the original white identification stickers on the car seat as proof of it being "fixed".the reason for the recall is belt slippage = loose belt - this is a problem i have experience many many times.britax then sent me a new belt to thread through the back of the car seat etc... Very complicated and time consuming considering i had to go back to the chp to get the car seat inspected again.following this "second" update to the seat i was still having the same problem.i am now returning the seat to the store of purchase and will once again have to go back to chp to double check the seat.very frustrating considering the cost of the seat.

Consumer contactedthe manufacturer after not being notified about the recall on the child safety seat. Manufacturer confirmed the seat was recalled, and the replacement strap would be forth coming.up to date the strap has not been received.recall nhtsa 04c002000.

Dt:britax marathon, dom4-27-04.consumer's child was 18 months old and was25 lbs. When he pulledon the lever and leaned forward shoulder strapsloosened.then he was able to climb out of the seat. The lever was easy for the child to reach. The consumer felt that this was dangerousto her child because he was not correctly restrained.there were no other problems with the child seat.

Car seat chest clip can be opened simply by pulling apart the two sides, without squeezing the middle release tab.

I have been having problems with the adjustment of the straps of the britax marathon car seat ever since i bought it.then, a few weeks ago, i happened to be in a store and saw that it has been recalled because of strap adjuster problems.1-britax never notified me of the recall. 2-when i called them they did not give me instructions on how to check for their problem. 3-they advised me that they would send me new components and instructions to correct the problem, which i never received. 4-they demanded that i not return the car seat.i spent a lot of money for this car seat.i do not work, and i cannot afford to get another seat while waiting for them to correct their problem.

Britax model#e9l0636. The css integrated locking clip was not staying locked.when the css technician performed the lateral side to side test the pressure caused the clip to unlock. In the event of a crash the css will fail.css technician had seen this failure on numerousbritax child seats, but the failure was mostly on this model.

Britax marathon car seat, my son is able to reach down and lift the metal buckle which allows the straps to loosen.when reported to britax they told me i must not be securing him properly in the seat or he wouldn't be able to reach it so i double check the next time i put him in and made sure the clip was at armpit level and he was still able to lift the fabric cover and the metal latch.has happened a few times since the original incident although we have resorted to usinga safety pin to secure the fabric patch so he cannot access the metal latch.not sure of the date of incident.

Dt: the contact stated the adjustment strap to the harness was too easily accessible to the child in the safety seat, allowing the harness straps to be loosened.the base was also cracked. The manufacturer was contacted. Manufacturer: britax, model: marathon, model #: e9l0677.

Dt*: the contact stated the child safety seat buckle between the legs did not always fasten into place.also, the tether strap loosened during a minor collision.the manufacturer was not contacted.this was a britax marathon, manufactured april 28, 2006.

I purchased a britax marathon car seat for my 2 year old.it is supposed to be sufficient for kids 18 to 49" and 0 -65 lbs.he is 30 lbs and 33" and the harness buckle at his crotch is almost too tight for him. However, i fear that he is too small for a booster seat and are aware that they are not as safe as car seats.

Buckles do not reliably engage.even after the final click the buckle randomly pop open during tightening/checking.

Misrouting of leg straps (during assembly of the car seat in the factory) so that they were through the latch belt - instead of the leg straps and latch belt being separate. This resulted in 1. Inability to bring latch straps fully to the side of the seat as they need to be for proper installation and 2. The latch straps interfering with proper adjustment of the harness on the child's body.i remedied this problem by detaching both leg straps from the shell of the seat and rerouting them as they were meant to be (i.e. Separate from the latch belt).incidentally, an identical seat manufactured 11/2011 also (2 seats were bought as the babies are twins) did not have this problem.seat: britax marathon classicserial#: e9ld4q8030036batch: j000032609made: nov 2011

I have a britax marathon.the straps can be loosened simply by tugging on them.my 3 1/2 year old daughter was able to loosen them by pushing on them while restrained.i then tightened them, and pulled on them, and they loosened.

My 2year old son can get out of his britax marathon car seat.he pulls on the release strap for the shoulder harness which loosens the straps and climbs out.i went to the britax website, and they state that this is not a safety issue, but a discipline problem.i'd like to see this seat recalled before someone gets hurt or worse.

I have two britax marathons for my twin girls and since the age of 2 they have been able to reach down and pull the harness adjuster lever and loosen their harness straps and get their arms out of the restraints.i have called britax and they do not have a solution for me- i have tried pining down the flap but they don't need to open the flab to access the lever.

3 yeaer old child able to loosen the sholder straps on a britax marathon child seat by engaging the release mechanism.

Britax marathonsince replacing the harness adjuster strap after the recall, the harness straps do not tighten enough, no matter how hard i pull on the harness adjuster strap. I called britax and they sent a new harness assembly, but that has not corrected the problem. I will be calling britax again in the morning. I am a cps tech, so i am confident that this is not user error.

My two-year old can loose the harness straps on his britax marathon car seat. He does this regularly and we are now looking into another car seat even though this is the most expensive and highest rated car seat currently available.

The contact owns a britax marathon child safety seat.the contact stated that there is a latch in the center of the safety seat between the child's legs that the child can reach and open. I cannot pull the restraint tight enough on my britax marathon with the floating hugs attached. They make it very difficult to get the restraint tight at all, and i feel my child could come out of the seat in a collision.

Harness canbe tightened, but it cannot be loosened.

My 2 year old is able to loosen the straps on her britax marathon car seat. It is not a safe design & needs to be addressed. She knows the word "no," but 2 year olds are willfully. Britax should recall & redesign.

I own two britax marathon car seats.my almost three year old child (while tightly strapped into his car seat) can reach forward and activate the shoulder release lever, lean forward and loosen his car seat straps on his own.while i am driving!i called britax and with in the next two weeks, they are sending me two "plastic trainers" which according to them, should make this lever inaccessible to my child.in the meantime i have no truly safe car seat for my child.i asked them why they use this lever and not the button like they use on the roundabout car seat and was told that parents with less hand dexterity were having problems with the button. But, apparently it was totally okayto let our small children be able to loosen their own safety restraints.i just purchased the second seat and it did not come with the trainer.britax knows this is a problem and there is currently no mention of this corrective piece on their web site.this is a very dangerous problem, and needs to be corrected.

We have a britax marathon car seat (man. 2003).the seat has what appears to be a major design flaw.there is a strap release between the child's leg that can be easily loosened by the child him/herself.if you lift this release, you can pull and loosen the straps, enabling the child to get out of the seat.very little pressure is needed and this is something our 2 1/2 year old daughter has easily been able to do while she has been properly buckled in.they have a lesser model called the roundabout that has a push button release.this appears to be a better option, since the child doesn't have the strength to operate the button.i spoke with britax today, and they took my complaint, but that's as far as it went.this is a big concern for me.this is a real danger, especially if the child isn't properly restrained.britax told me that it's up to the parents to tell the child not to pull at it.while this may be true, it's also up to the car seat manufacturer to release a product that child can't so easily manipulate.i feel there needs to be a recall and they need to fix this design.

I buckled my 3 month old son into his britax marathon car seat. I made a wide left turn and all of a sudden he started to scream. I pulled over and parked my car and got out to check on him. He had slid out from under the strap and was laying perpendicular to his seat.he was uninjured, but when i called britax to tell them, they were unconcerned and blamed me. I know how to put him in his car seat. I know i tightened the straps, they somehow loosened and he was able to slide under them.

My 1 year old son is able to reach the harness release button on his britax marathon car seat and has managed to losen his harness enough to escape the car seat while i am driving. I have called britax several times and have been told there is nothing they will do to correct this issue. This is a serious safety issue. If i am driving and get into an accident the car seat might as well not even be there if he has losened the harness. I have found numerous complaints online from others indicating their children were also able to loosen their harnesses while parents are driving. Britax admitted to me that they are aware this is an issue and because it is not a "manufaturer's defect" they have no plans to redesign the car seat to make it safer. It is not realistic to expect a 1 year old to comply when you tell him not to loosen the harness.this is a design flaw and britax should be required to redesign their car seats so that the child cannot release their own harness. No one should have to lose a child just to prove that this is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Dt:britax marathon model # e9l0605, dom 12/10/2003. When consumer' s 22 month old child wasplaced in the child safety seat, was not secure in child seat.while driving the child was able to lift the harness adjuster lever and loosen the harness straps from the child safety seat. Consumer feltthe loose harness increased the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Due to the position of lever, contacted britax, who recommended that consumer return child safety seat to retailer ,and did not wish to hear any further complaints. Consumer has not returned child safety seat at this time.no alterations or corrections weremade on the child seat.

Dt:the lever between the child's legs can be easily opened bythe child.the manufacturer said the consumer needed to discipline thechild, and put a safety pin to securethe flap to keep the child fromopening the seat belt, and that they can't do anything to help.

Latch strap routed around lap portion of harness straps.lap portion of the harness webbing was through the fixed loop on the latch attachment webbing.seat new out of the box.

Dt: contact states the adjuster lever that is located in the front of the car seat to tighten the harness can be accessed by the consumer's two children and they are able to release the strap.

The contact owns a 2003 britax e9l06-marathon.while riding in the back seat of the vehicle in the safety seat, the child bit off and chewed the rubbery plastic hugs (rings) of the shoulder harness.the contact noticed in the rear view mirror that the child was chewing on something.she pulled over and removed the rubbery plastic from the child's mouth. 01/11/08.*ljupdated

The plastic seat belt lock-offs for the britax marathon child seats are made of an inferior plastic that is prone to premature wear and failure.upon failure, the lock-off is no longer able to grab the seat belt and maintain a secure fitting in the vehicle.i purchased two identical seats and both seats failed exactly the same way within a month of each other.britax is unwilling to listen to consumer complaints about this defective design.i have kept the two failed components for future reference.

Carseat continually ejecting from 3 sites in the harness and seat belt ;although securely fastened and checked because it was an ongoing problem.today, i could not prevent my daughter from ejecting, and she fell into the floorboard on top of groceries. She sustained 2 abrasions to the head. I have a dr. Appt. Tomorrow to rule out concerns re: this incident.(related vehicle information: model year=2003, make=marathon, model=p222700).

Our britax marathon has foam lining in it that is falling apart. Even though this was a high dollar car seat we have been unable to use if for our second child since the foam has come out. We rarely moved this seat and it has never been in an accident. We are disappointed in a seat that came so highly rated.

Child seat was recalled previously. Consumer contacted manufacturer, who then sent a repair kit. Recently, the base of the child seat broke. Consumer again contacted manufacturer, who then offered another repair kit. Consumer no longer felt safe in putting child in this recalled child restraint system.

I am a certified cps technician in beaverton, oregon.over the last year or so i have noticed that the following:britax marathon, decathalon, & boulevard child restraints:when installed in the rear-facing position, the built-in lock-offs fail to stay locked in most vehicles when installing with lap and shoulder safety belts.

I believe that the straps used to anchor child car seats are too long.about a week ago after my wife had put the car seat in our toyota echo, i noticed the anchor strap was hanging out of the car in front of the rear wheel.if i had not noticed, my wife would have driven off and the rear wheel would have surely pulled on the strap violently after rolling over it which could have injured my daughter. The strap is so long that i imagine that it could happen on almost any vehicle and i have a britax marathon car seat. I am writing to comlain about britax's handling of the recall of straps on its marathon (and other model) car seats.i first called britax to register my new car seat on september 13, 2004, and was told i would receive a replacement strap in 7-10 days.it is now 6.5 weeks later, and i have called them three more times.each time, i am told that the strap was just mailed out, or is just about to be mailed out, only to learn upon my next phone call thatinformation is incorrect.in the meantime, my daughter is in an unsafe car seat.i don't know what kind of enforcement authority you have over britax, or what they promised nhtsa when they agreed to a recall, but they are not living up to their repeat representations to customers regarding providing the needed replacement parts.

The contact owns a 2007 britax e9l06-marathon, model number e9wo605.the seat was manufactured on september 7, 2004.the adjuster strap slips and the velcro adjuster can be opened by the two year old child.the manufacturer was informed that there was no safety recall and could not assist.the purchase date was unknown.

My complaint about the britax marathon car seat is essentially identical to at least 2 others that have been lodged.specifically, due to the position of the latch that loosens the harness straps, my 2 year old daughter can easily loosen the harness, and does so repeatedly while the car is in motion.i am a pediatric rehabilitation physician specializing in brain injury and spinal cord injury in children, and therefore i am acutely aware of the dangers that this loosening could produce in the event of a crash.this is unacceptable.given that this has been reported by others, it may represent a major design flaw warranting recall and replacement immediately.

Consumer's vehicle was included in recall. However, she was trying to get the part for two months. Consumercontacted the manufacturera total of four times, and was told to wait another week.

The contact owns a britax marathon e9l06 child restraint.the contact's child is able to pull the harness tightener, loosen the webbing, and remove himself from the seat.the manufacturer stated that they will send out a safety training device.the contact is experiencing the same failure as noted in recall # 04c002000 (child seat:tether (strap)).the purchase date was unknown.the manufactured date was august 8, 2006. 2006 is not listed in the product menu.

I purchased a britax marathon car seat in nov 2004.there was a recall on the strap that the sellers did not inform us and we had to deal with manufacturer. Safety was not the first issue on britax's mind when approaching our concerns. I told them that slippage is occurring and the representative kept saying that "it really shouldn't because the manufacturing date is after the recall period" and there is nothing that she can do!i am not using the seat any longer.can britax ignore the consumer's complaints?is there anything that i can do?

In july i bought a britax marathon carseat only to hear soon after there was a recall on the adjuster strap of this and other models (due to possibility of slippage of the straps) of britax carseats.i hadn't yet send in my warranty card, therefore i called britax the same day as the recall was issued (8/12/04).i was told that the replacement kits were being mailed out on 8/20/04, and i would receive mine 5-7 days after this.fast forward to 8/31/04 - i had not received my replacement kit and was very angry as my carseat does indeed have a problem with strap slippage.i called britax again and was told that the kits were actually being mailed out that day and i would receive it now in another 7-10 days.fast forward once again to 9/24/04 and i still have not received my replacement kit!i am extremely angry now as the carseat cost $230.00 and i should not be using it, but cannot afford another now!i can't believe i was given two separate dates and times of arrival for my kit and they have both come and gone!if these are not available to all customers at once why are they giving me these dates?i would have still been angry if they had told the truth, but at least i would know which steps to take next.if this kit is not availble to me for another 6 months maybe i would need to invest in another carseat entirely!but with this misinformation i am at a loss of what to do next!i don't know if you reply to these complaints, but any suggestions from someone would be greatly appreciated!

Consumer made contact with britax regargingrecall 04c062000 for the adjuster strap, and has not received the replacement for the child seat.

Consumer purchased a britax marathon child seat. However, it was on recall.consumer registered the seat.it has been three months, and she is still waiting for the part.

The britax marathon child car seat has a harness adjustment "latch" that allows you to loosen and adjust the harness.the design of the car seat has placed the harness adjustment latch within easy reach of a child.the placement of the latch in such close proximity allows our child (who has been properly secured into the car seat) to lift up on the latch.while using the latch as leverage, he can lean forward and substantially loosen the harness.because the harness becomes loose, my toddler is at risk for serious injury/ejection from seat and car in an accident because he would not be securely restrained.please note that my toddler falls well within the height and weight guidelines listed in this car seat's user guide--he is almost exactly in the middle range.we secure him in the car seat according to the manufacturer's instructions as outlined in the user guide.we have also secured the seat in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions as referenced in the user guide.it is my understanding that other britax car seats (in addition to the marathon model) have this same design.i am sending a letter via certified mail to britax to report the problem.i am asking britax to: (a) replace our car seat with one that does not have this particular type of latch design; or (b) reimbursement for our purchase price of the car seat.any help that you can provide such as contacting the manufacturer, issuing a recall, etc. Is certainly appreciated.i am unable to find a manufacture date for this car seat--not sure where to look.therefore, i am referencing what appears to be the date of the user's guide (october 2002) in my complaint.also, there is a checkbox on your complaint form that just says "oem".i'm not sure what this is so i just left the box checked as "no."*la

Dt*: the contact stated the child safety seat buckle between the legs did not always fasten into place.also, the tether strap loosened during a minor collision.the manufacturer was not contacted.this was a britax marathon, manufactured april 28, 2006.

I am a child passenger safety tech working at safety council lca in baton rougelouisiana.a britax marathon seat seen today with harness adjuster strap mis-installed.evidently father received replacement harness adjuster strap from britax (as a result of recent recall)in the mail and installed it at home.he mis-threaded the strap from the bottom of the seat to where it appeared to be threaded up through the "a-lock".this placement left the "a-lock" in the open position and the harness when grasped at the shoulders pulled out 6-8 inches. I corrected the problem on this seat.i fear there may be other parents who have replaced the harness adjuster stap incorrectly as well.perhaps a letter should be sent to these families encouraging them to have the application checked by a cpst orspecially trained retailer.this seat was a chance find, as the family actually came in to have a new infant seat checked.

My britax marathon car seat (dom 1-28-05) has a sticker that states "the american academy of pediatrics recommends forward facing until at least one year of age and 20 pounds (9kg)."this is incorrect as it should say rear facing instead of forward facing.

The identification sticker on the britax marathon child seat was gone. *mr the identification sticker had worn off the car seat.the paper was gone but the adhesive was still in place.due to the failure, the consumer was not able to have the certified installer check the seat.
