We own a rear-facing britax chaperone infant carseat and have used it for 5.5 months prior to product failure.the chest clip cracked during normal use (no vehicle collision or impact).this left a very sharp edge against baby's chest and the clip was rendered unsafe for use as it would not properly restrain child in the event of a collision. I contacted britax on 5/14/10to report this and obtain a replacement chest clip.the customer service representative noted they "were aware the clip was rather thin and the replacement you'll receive has been reinforced".we received the replacement part 4 days later on 5/18/10.as the seat was unsafe, we would have preferred more prompt overnight shipping but this was not available.if this problem has been noted by britax, i feel that all owners of the carseat should have been sent a new chest clip prior to failure of the original one, which may injure the child or render the seat ineffective in restraining the child in a collision.

My husband replaced the buckle on our companion after the recall.however, about 3 weeks ago i found the buckle unfastened when i took my 8 mo. Old out of her seat.i originally thought that my older child was trying to help me out by undoing the buckle as she was exiting the car.unfortunately,i still found it unfastened occasionally when myolder child wasn't with me.i have purchased britax car seats for about 7 years and i have never had any problems, so i thought it was user error.so i started double checking and gently tugging on the buckle after fastening it.much to my disbelief i still found it occasionally unfastened.when i questioned my older child about the buckle being unfastened, she told me the baby did it.i then put my 8 mo. Old in the seat, got in the car like i was leaving, and watched in amazement as my infant simply tapped on the buckle and it came undone!i removed the car seat from my car.

Britax chaperone car seat chest clip broke into two pieces on both my car seat, i have small infant twins. I contacted britax and tey said it was a voluntary recall and their engineers state the car seats were safe to operate without the chest clip. They are not safe as one of the babies got out of the car seat on the freeway. Britax refused to vernight me the needed chest clip. It was ordered three weeks ago and only gives me a tracking number. This company is negligent and nonresponsive.
