Certified child safety seat installer found that a consumer's newly purchased baby trend easy ride 5 infant seat (model# ts40949) will not remain locked in the base.the seat secures in the base toward the front of the vehicle, but the other end (where infant's feet would be) does not secure properly. Once the base is installed and the seat placed into the base to lock, clicks are heard, but the seat separates from base with light pressure is present lifting the seat up.date of seat manufacture is 09-15-2014.owner was advised to return the child safety seat to the store and request that it be returned to the manufacturer (not placed back onto the shelf for sale).the reporter is a certified child safety seat installer and police officer who provides the service to the community through the police department.the seat in question is model# ts40949 which was not found in the drop-down list.

The contact stated that an oncoming vehicle crashed into the driver side of the contact's vehicle. The resulting force caused the child seat to detach from the base. A police report was filed.
